Amazon.com If you're looking for an example of real girl power--as in underage females who genuinely pack a punch--your search is over. They may look like punk rock pinups, but these four young women--who follow the proud Ramones tradition by all taking on the name Donna--bash out the tunes with brawny, sweaty glee. Donna, Donna, Donna and, er, Donna are well aware that all great rock & roll, from Jerry Lee Lewis to Iggy Pop to Green Day, comes from the same basic roots, and these gals coax a fine harvest from those roots on hormone-mad songs like "You Make Me Hot" and "Leather on Leather." A well-oiled machine, indeed. --David Sprague

The Donnas--an unbiased, honest review. April 14, 2000 Michael W. Jacobson (Jacksonville, FL) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am not a teenage fan boy, nor am I an aging rock fan who thinks rock and roll ended with the Ramones. I'm simply a music lover who read about this group, and picked it up out of curiosity. I'm not in love with any of the band members. The Donnas are a terrific reminder of just how much fun it can be to pump your fist in the air and yell along with your favorite sleazy lyrics. These girls are young, but they are serious, and attack their music with a ferocity often lost in today's pop/hip hop culture. Donna A's gritty vocals come across as half sneer, half smile, and the musicians, led by Donna R's impressive guitar crunching, give the sound a raw, youthful edge. Is it original? Maybe not particularly. But it does seem fresh and new against the backdrop of today's mainstream radio. It's loud, unpolished, unapologetic...and a helluva lot of fun to listen to. Bottom line: if you love smarmy teen idol pop, overproduced rap with metal overtones, or machine driven hip hop, then rejoice, for the world is still yours. For we chosen few who like our rock loud, fast, angry and dirty, I'll happily take The Donnas.
Why The Donnas? Because They Rock! November 17, 2000 Bryan Rawson (Phoenix, AZ) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
If ChickBand was a country, these girls would be president..or president(s)..or queens. Look, I don't know, but take my word--This CD is very awesome and very fun. Until about a year ago I was completely unaware of the fearsome foursome I've grown to love, and I owe it all to my dear friend Ginger who introduced me. That's why I am now spreading the word myself, to introduce *more* people to this group that deserves *more* recognition! Whether you're chanting along to Gimmie My Radio or banging your head to Rock 'N' Roll Machine or drumming along to that one part in You Make Me Hot on your steering wheel, you're having a great time. Great energy, and great girls. What else can you ask for? Can't wait to Turn 21 on Jan. 23rd..

Great rock C.D. June 21, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to buy your first Donnas C.D. you can skip the self-titled and buy this. I first bought Spend the Night and sort of went backwards. I just bought this CD and it was great. I have listened to their other onces a million times and needed something new. There are 10 tracks on here and I love them all! This is a great rock 'n' roll album. I love the old Donnas days when their CDs sounded more raw-ish than now if you know what I mean. Rock n Roll Machine is a good opener. This is like, a teenager's anthem right here. I also really like 'Checkin it Out' because it has a cool guitar solo. The guitar and bass on Speed Demon is really rad and makes it one of my favorite songs. And I also love Shake in the Action too. Donna R. aka Allison is a great guitarist and most bands have to have a great guitarist if I am going to listen to them. Also Donna C. is a pretty good drummer but she plays pretty basic beats on the album and still does today. It gets boring. Sorry, I have to say it. This is still a good cd nonetheless. I reccomend it to rock fans of every age.
Joan Jett & the Runaways would be PROUD!!!! May 18, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If ever their was a Runaway University these gals would definately hold Masters Degrees. The song You Make Me Hot is the Donnas' take on Joan Jett's version of Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah). Rock N Roll Machine their take on Bad Reputation/I Love Rock N Roll thus establishing their own reputation. Defiantely the CD to start out your collection with. To sample go to [their website] and prove me right.
