The Donnas have it, second to none, period. This is what it's all about, right here.
Another great album from a band destined for greatness!! June 9, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you liked The Donnas before, you'll like them even more now. If you don't know who The Donnas are, after this album, you will. With better, beefier production than it's predecessor "American Teenage Rock And Roll Machine", this album just flat out rocks, musically. And the lyrics, well...the lyrics make you smile, because it's the way you probably felt when you were a teenager, but were too embarassed to admit it. This album (which includes a great cover of the Motley Crue classic "Too Fast For Love") is typical Donnas. Drop The Ramones, "Dressed To Kill"-era KISS, and a touch of The Runaways in a blender, and top it off with the punk-pop sensibilities of "Dream Police"-era Cheap Trick, and you'll come pretty close to the rock'n'roll party that is The Donnas. Don't miss out on this one, because I think it may be the start of something big!!!
Donnas - 'Get Skintight' (Lookout) July 25, 2007 Mike Reed (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Review no.59. Truly outstanding, WAY above average full-throttled all girl rock 'n roll. Every cut here kicks total *ss, but just a few I thought I'd mention are "You Don't Wanna Call", the rocking "Doin' Donuts", "Searching Through The Streets" and "I Didn't Like You Anyway". Fans of the Runaways, early Go-Go's, Ramones and maybe Blondie will be wetting their under garments over this one. Buy two copies of this CD in case you wear the first one out. Highly recommended.
The Donnas... Get a Good Review from Leery July 27, 2005 Ryan Von Ghoulsworth (Auburn, ME) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
In recent years, it is common for a strapping young lad, like myself, to proclaim that they were keenly fond of a certain band "before they became famous". When said strapping young lad utters those words, it is often followed by the dreaded "but then they sold out". This is not true for the Donnas. I became aware of these four bratty vixens either in 2000 or 2001. The album was "...Get Skintight", and the location was my car. My friend popped in a borrowed CD of the album, and we listened to it until dawn was cracking. I will admit, at first I didn't think that there was anything special about the album. The second time I listened to it, I said, "Wow, this is actually catchy." The third time I listened to it, I said, "I could totally worship this." And I did. From that day forward, I put my eardrums on a strict diet of the Donnas, 24/7. Shortly after, the Donnas were adorning their angsty (but still purrrty) faces on most every music magazine imaginable. Yes, it is true, I did like the Donnas before mainstream success, but I did not burden my listening pleasures with the epithet of "selling out". In fact, if any band should be successful, why, I couldn't imagine any other band to do it better than that skintight quad everyone's talking about.

This band is all about suburban rebellion . Do not look closer for deeper meaning. There is none. It is traditionally male rock music lead by a bunch of girls. They sing about getting dissed by guys, dissing guys, partying, getting stoned, casual sex, causing trouble and most importantly having fun. Their songs are short, catchy, and fast. They have clever lyrics like in "Zero" ("You're a zero on my rockometer/If you wanna get hot/go turn on a heater.") and at times humorous ("I wanna take you home with me/wine and dine you with cable TV) "Skin Tight", ("Tonight, I'm drinking for two/that's all I learned in school") "Doin' Donuts". My favorite track is "You Don't Wanna Call." I love the lyrics for that song and the attitude in singer Donna A's voice. She wants this guy to call her but when she realizes he's not going to, she shrugs it off while only pretending that it does not matter. The band does a great cover of Motley Crue's "Too Fast for Love," where they nail every one of their riffs. They are an all girl band. It's too bad that there are not that many bands that rock hard enough let alone all girl ones that can cover "Too Fast for Love" `B-O-R-ING'? Definitely not! Play this record loud and tell everyone `get outta my room'. Hopefully their new release "The Donnas Turn 21" will be just as good as this one.
