| Customer Reviews: Reba! Music and voice...are So Good Together. October 18, 2000 Rick Dorris (Everett, Wa USa) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Reba McEntire's newest cd "So Good Together" is one of the most diverse album's she's ever recorded. It blends different styles and moods while keeping the sound very much Reba. The title track, which happens to be the first single, mixes country/pop with bubbly energy. A happy blossoming love anthem that throws caution to the wind and goes for taking things day by day and living in love. "Till I said It To You" shows the power of the word "love" and the importance of saying it only when you mean it. The next song is the perfect support song. If the Lord was going to say anything to us, "I'll Be" is what he would sing. "What Do You Say" helps deal with the awkwardness of situations where mere words just don't cut it. "Roses" is a slow country ballad which utilizes Reba's awesome nack for delivering an emotional yet subtle pucnch to a sad country song. It is a throw back to the country twang of the past, but Reba delivers it with style and grace. The sixth single on the album, "I'm Not Your Girl", is a departure for Reba. The man in her life loves her and wants to be with her yet for some reason, all the pieces don't seem to fit. She loves being with him, and doesn't want to lead him on, telling him, "I'm Not Your Girl." Only at the end of the song does she realize the day will come when she'll understand the mistake she's made. "She Wasn't Good Enough For Him" sings of a girl who gives her all to the man she loves, he cares enough to take it, but not enough to give it back. "Back Before The War" is a powerful country ballad that reunites Reba with her 80's style of music, a close connection to songs like "Whoever's In New England" and "What Am I Gonna Do About You". It's about the end of a marriage, beginning with her about to sign the divorce papers while reminising about their marriage and wondering where it all went wrong. Personally, it's my favorite song on the album. The little things in life somethimes mean the most. "When You're Not Trying To" sings the praises of the little things, when you're not overly trying to be romantic or sweet. "Where You End And I Begin" details the closeness of two people who lose themselves in each other. The last song on the album is a real departure from the normal "Reba". The duet "We're All Alone" which was a Boz Skaggs hit, is performed with Brazilian country super-duo Jose y Durval. Reba continues to broaden her musical horizons while being true to herself and her fans. Her voice is powerful and heartful. Never faultering with a note or leaving the listener high and dry, Reba sings like an angel. One, I'm sure, that God hated to let go. Thank you for reading my review of Miss McEntire's best album since "Read My Mind." Keep Reba going and life will continue to be a little more bearable.Love, Rick
