Buzz is great March 28, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Buzz is a very good album from start to finish. 1) Better The Devil You Know - This is a cover of the Kylie Minogue classic. It is very catchy and very dancey. 2) Stomp - a big disco number that is a cover of the Brothers Johnson classic. It is complete with laser sounds, violins, and everything from the 70s. 3) Summer Of Love - A Latin influenced song. It is very excellent from beginning to end. The vocals are very powerful and very catchy. This song has a great hook. 4) It's The Way You Make Me Feel - this song sounds very much like something Britney Spears would do. It is produced by Cherion Studios, who have also worked with Britney, NSync, and Backstreet Boys among others. It is a beautiful mid-tempo number with wonderful vocals. 5) You'll Be Sorry - this song has a killer intro. It builds up to a very powerful chorus. 6) Learn To Love Again - this song is not one of the best on the album, but has nice vocal effects. 7) Never Get Over You - a really great dance song. It has a nice intro and a very catchy hook. 8) Hand On Your Heart - the first ballad of the album. It is pretty relaxing and a nice song. 9) Happy Go Lucky - This song sounds like a mix between NSync and Ace Of Base. It is produced by NSync producers Riprock `N' Alex G. It has a real pop/reggae feel to it and uses a vocoder at some parts. 10) Buzzz - This song also sounds like a mix between NSync and Ace Of Base. It was also produced by Riprock `N' Alex G. The chorus is pretty catchy with creative lyrics as well. 11) Here And Now - This song has amazingly beautiful vocals. It is very catchy and very well-done song. 12) Paradise Lost - the backbeat of this song sounds almost identical to the backbeat in Ace Of Base's "The Sign". The vocals are very beautiful, contributing to a very beautiful, melancholy song. It builds up to a very powerful chorus. 13) Turn Around - this is another dancey song on the album, produced by Metro, who have also worked with Cher on her album "Believe". 14) Wouldn't Hurt So Bad - another ballad on the album. This song doesn't really break any new ground, but has nice lyrics. 15) If You Believe - a very beautiful, inspiring song. The orchestral intro is very nice. The vocals are also powerful and well-done. All in all, this is a pretty satisfying album.
The Best Steps Album So Far... May 3, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The third Steps album is incredibly refreshing and opens with a cover of the Kylie classic 'Better The Devil You Know'. The singles so far include the Flashdance-esque 'Summer Of Love', disco stormer 'Stomp', 'It's The Way You Make Me Feel' and the new double A-side 'You'll Be Sorry / Here And Now'. These tracks are probably the strongest here although 'Never Get Over You', 'If You Believe' and 'Paradise Lost' are all superb examples of classic pop. There are a few tracks which are not so good, in particular the Sonique 'It Feels So Good' rip off 'Learn To Love Again' which is definately worth skipping and the watery title track 'Buzz'. Apart from that a fine album, and there's more new tracks to come on the forthcoming 'Greatest Hits' album.
Get Buzzed with Buzz... March 18, 2001 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Buzz, is a fun and upbeat album. It's one of those albums that you can pop into the cd player and before you know it, you just wanna get up and dance around. :) The faster tunes definitely have a more disco/70's sound to it. Listening to the second track on the album, "Stomp," totally reminded me of ABBA. . I especially like "Summer of Love," "Never get over you." There are more ballads on this album than their "Step One," album. I absolutely love, "Hand on Your Heart." That song totally rules! The only song I really don't like on this album, which is why I gave Buzz an overall 4 out of 5 stars is the song called , "Happy Go Lucky." In my opinion this song is terrible. They lyrics are really cheesy and it just didn't go with the flow of the album. With that song, I thought Steps took a giant step backwards in the evolution of their music. But overall its a great album that all Steps fans should add to their collection.
From the Hit Factory and beyond! July 6, 2001 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just received my copy of the album "Buzz" and think that it is one of the most amazing pop albums I have heard in eons! My current favourite track is "You'll Be Sorry", a track that borrows heavily from the Tina Cousins formula (Tina was also produced by the crew at the legendary PWL Studios). "Stomp", the first official single from this album, is credited as a tribute to Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the founding members of Chic (listen closely and you can hear the string riff from Chic's "Everybody Dance"). Pure brilliance! The first track from this album, "Better The Devil You Know", began its life as one of Kylie Minogue's pop standards and is taken to the next level here. It still sounds fresh even though it was included as the B-side to "Say You'll Be Mine" from Steps' previous ablum, "Steptacular". The second track off of this album is the latin inflected "Summer Of Love" (a B-side from "When I Said Goodbye" from "Steptacular"), complete with the over-the-top production one has come to associate with Pete Waterman and his crew. Cheiron Studios takes a stab at altering the Steppers' sound a bit by putting their trademark sound on a track or two (via the production or Andreas Carlsson's writing). Cyndi Lauper contributes a song on this album, co-written with Jan Pulsford and Steps' own Faye Tozer. The result is a hauntingly beautiful song called "If You Believe". Classic pop balladry at its finest!Steps have gradually made a shift away from the ABBA-esque sound that was so prominent on their last last two efforts. Their sound is more mature on this go around and it excites me to think what this fivesome will be capable of if they should continue recording over the next few years. FOLKS... PLEASE dispense of your pre-conceived notion of the pure pop sound. It does NOT belong to the likes of Britney, BSB or the other pop groups. This is an awesome album from start to finish. Missing from this version, but included on the Japanese Edition is a song called "Human Touch"- another track that sports the Tina Cousins sound. Still- don't miss this!!! Hopefully the folks at Jive USA will keep this album in tact unlike their last US release... if not- snap this one up as quick as you can... It really doesn't get much better than this! (Also check out the DEUCE album "On The Loose" (Polydor import)- a Steps prototype group produced by PWL Alumni Hammond and Curnow!!!)
5 Steps, 5 stars February 22, 2001 I do have to say that cd is pretty great. I would like to recommend this cd to anyone and everyone. I cant wait for them to release this cd in the us if they do. I mean "Buzz" is a great song. "Stomp" is great too especially when being performed. I saw it by accident, on MuchMusic at friends house. They are a great band. They have great lyrics, and I will go the first concert that they have here in the states. I believe this band has the potential to mak ea name out of themselves, if given the chance. I dont know what to say to get you to buy the cd. Thats not my job. I just wanted to let you know that this a great band. Lisa, Faye, H an dthe rest of the group have come a long ways. The cd has several great slow grooves also. Check this cd out!
