All Vee-Jay with one K-Tel (and possibly just 1 JH) August 29, 2008 There's a strong possibilty that Hendrix is featured on many 1964-66 LR recordings. The best evidence is for his involvement in a May, 1965 session only - and this collection has just one track from that eventful day: a foot-stomping romp thru Rock and Soul Heaven, "Dancin' All Around The World (aka Dance A Go Go)", the best pressing I'ver heard! The remainder are the familiar sides we see on countless collections, the best being the title tune (original, short mono version, with curious fade-up) and "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" (short mono version). If it's not Hendrix on "Clawdy", he wouldn't have lifted the needle on playback. I enjoyed the best-ever pressings of the awkward but enjoyable jazz-rock mixes of "Memories Are Made Of This" and "Only You". They were cut in summer of 1964 and actually have greater historic resonance for *other* stars: James Brown, Tom Jones, Blood Sweat And Tears. Let's see, we have Richard's fourth recut of "Ooh My Soul", from August 1976 - if you slow down the pitch, you'll enjoy it even better. Following some bizarre experiments in the studio where his voice wasn't in shape, Richard was persuaded to do one more R & R session before his return to Gospel around 1977. He really got it together on the Specialty sound-alike set. As I said, it's possible Hendrix is heard on all but the '76 cut. It's been written that he was a constant touring companion of Don & Dewey, who were in the Little Richard Show at the time. Hendrix joined the Upsetters officially either 12-64 or 01-65, but it's very reasonable to assume he was on the scene. Good price, especially for the novice fan/historian, of these two amazingly influential artists.
