Who You Are has a wonderful worldmusic/Arabic feel to it...(I once took it to church to play during services, probably the one most appropriate Pearl Jam song for this purpose)

Habit is simply the best hardrockin' song PJ has ever done.

Hail Hail and Mankind (also from NO CODE) come close but can't keep up the manic pace of this raw, pure rock song. Spin the Black Circle (the only Pearl Jam song to ever win a Grammy) is in the same league with this bunch...as are several from Ten, but Habit is my favorite!!

PJ is one of the last true American (super)bands cranking out interesting, new hard rock to this day. Ten years hasn't slowed them down, try and see!!

The first track is "Who You Are," a great eastern influenced song with an awesome drum feel to it. The second track is "Habit," which is about a friend addicted to drugs. Its rather "hard core" for PJ and not for non-PJ fanatics, but is still a good listen. Both songs are taken from the album No Code, with no unreleased tracks, sniff, sniff. Good CD for collectors, and normally VERY hard to find, so get it while it lasts if you are part of the "Jamily."

In reviewing this single, i take into consideration two things. The first are the songs.
"Who You Are" is one of the most intense (as in touching) songs by PJ. All the voices mixing together and playing around like waves make Ed`s voice seem preety melodious and trained. Jack Iron's drumming was the foundation of the song, and renders for a beautiful lead... the bass is the filling element, adding the low pitched emotions to the song... its rather funky if you listen to it closely, put mixed with the guitars and the rest of the arrangements, it makes the song seem like a chorus song. It could easily be sang by a church choir and maintain its rocking intensity. Its like a fellowship song, one of those where everyone sings together in offtempo-unison, making it feel much more personal.
Habit is a hard-edged-heavy-metal tune. Distorted guitars and a fast tempo make it one of PJ's heaviest.
The only problem with this single is the fact that it did not contain b-sides. But considering that this was released as a single before the album came out, it must have been amazing to hear it.
All in all its a great single yet its not a "must have", rather just a collectors item for true fans. If you are not that much of a fan, youre better off saving your money for the new PJ record, or a single like "Nothing As It Seems.
