Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. Of course when Pearl Jam roll into Washington, DC you can expect a very political guy like Eddie Vedder to be extra talkative. In this show he sure doesn't disappoint in that department, adding some unexpected depth to his positions for the Green Party and against the established power structure. So if you like to hear Eddie's opinions, here's a good show for you (he's even a little less mush-mouthed than usual too). Those of you who want a good rocking PJ show, this disc is for you too. After starting off with the dark and mysterious "Sometimes," which is a surprisingly effective opener, the band delivers a very strong performance for the Capitol crowd. In fact, they were on a real roll this particular week, delivering two especially powerful shows in Philadelphia before this, then wrapping up the tour the next evening with a killer in Pittsburgh. Highlights of this show include surprise appearances by "Dissident," "Leaving Here," and a highly spooky "Indifference," plus one of the best versions of "Daughter" in the entire bootleg series. This time, the long jam session at the end of the song incorporates the emotional "It's OK" by the cult band Dead Moon. "Habit," "Not For You," and "Crazy Mary" are especially strong this evening, and in true political fashion, the show ends with a bruising take on Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World."

Amazing! I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this show was. By far the best setlist out of all the bootleg. If you LOVE Pearl Jam and love some of their lesser known songs, this one is for you, if you only really like their hits then it is still for you. It covers everything. Longer setlist because opening band Sonic Youth was unable to play that show. I have heard almost everything this band has ever done. This concert blows me away. RVM is probably the best version I have ever heard and along with RITFW which is almost as good as the version for the MTV music awards when they were with Neil Young. You gotta get this!!!!!
The Best of the American 2000 Tour August 5, 2005

As a latecomer to Pearl Jam (hence the explaination for the late review date!), I have waded into their mass of Official Bootlegs with gusto. After obtaining many selections from both the American and European Legs of the 2000 Tour, I have to say that for sheer excitement, musicanship and song selection, this release is the best, just edging out Pittsburgh, PA, of the American shows. Perhaps it is the location; with Pearl Jam, any excuse to soap box seems to make them want to crank things up that much more. Just check your politics at the door, and enjoy the music.

I missed going to this show because of a lack of money, after buying this boot I've resolved never to let a little thing like not having money stop me again! This show is probably one of the hardest rocking boots I've heard, the first CD doesn't slow down until right after Do the Evolution when Eddie stops to talk to the crowd. Then, right after Nothing as it Seems, they launch into my personal favorate, Given to Fly, then slow down again for Untitled, but after that it's all fast again. The version of Daughter is excellent, with Eddie leading the crowd in a singalong of, I believe the song's called, It's Ok. Even Flow is probably one of the best versions I've ever heard, with Mike's guitar playing the best I've ever heard. The second disk starts off strong with Better Man and keeps on going. Leaving Here is probably one of my favorate songs of the show, and is a cover that Pearl Jam does very well. State of Love and Trust, as always, is a gem. This is the only live version of Porch I own, and it's come to a point where, when listening to Ten, I think how much I'd rather hear it live and put in this CD. One of my favorate songs of all time is very well represented on this CD, Rocking in the Free World. Mike's playing would make Neil Young proud in this song, and Eddie, as always, is the master of belting out lyrics very passionatly. All in all, I hate myself for missing this show, and will not miss the next. Buy this, you won't be sorry.

Sat on the hill for this show. A little longer than the average bootleg because sonic youth couldn't open for them. A good mix of songs, has daughter w/its okay. Good renditions of Crazy Mary, State of Love and Trust, Leaving Here, RITFW, and Sometimes. The sound quality is excellent, the band was on, and eddie takes a shot at Bill Gates.
