Jennifer's Bling Don't Cost A Thing! March 2, 2001 dogeneedtakeship (San Jose, California USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With Jennifer's new album, she didn't just grow with the music but also with the remixes, because these remixes are by far some of the best. This single has a bit of everything on here, and the remixes are so fab. Track Listing: 1.) Love Don't Cost A Thing (HQ2 Club Vocal Mix) (10:54) = This is by far some of Hex Hectors best work. This remix is one of the darkest ones, I have heard in a long time. At the begining of this 10:54 journey, Hex reversed Jennifer's Voice and she sound like she's Indian, it just sounds so great yet creepy. This remix is a great dance track because it has every beat from a to z. 2.) Love Don't Cost A Thing (Main Rap #1 Featuring Puffy) (3:36) = This remix sounds really R&B yet still lives up to the original. There is one thing I have a comment on about this remix and that is that Puffy could have did a way better job than what he did. After the part were Jennifer repeats "Cost A THING" puffy starts to rap. 3.) Love Don't Cost A Thing (RJ Schoolyard Mix Featuring Fat Joe) (4:19) = This is the track I am really dissapointed with because this isn't the original remix. The original remix with this same beat actually has Fat Joe Rapping. This is my favorite remix and Fat Joe isn't one this version, I don't know if this was purposely done or accidently, but I think its sad because people were expecting the correct remix with Fat Joe's incredible rap part. Don't worry Peep's If you wan't it that bad like me, you will by the international version that actually features Fat Joe. 4.) Love Don't Cost A Thing (Full Intention Club Mix) (7:15) = This remix sound like it came right out of the 70/80's from a Disco dance floor. They edited Jennifer's voice a lot on this remix but it sound great and is good to dance to. 5.) Let's Get Loud (Kung Pow Club Mix) (8.09) = This track is featured on the import of "Let's get Loud" which contains even better remixes than this one, check it out. This is a great remix though, I would prefere a radio edit but I learn to apreciate every jennifer Lopez Remix. "let's Get Loud" with some of the hottest remixes ever, because your love them so much you'll relize that "Love don't cost a Thing". Is you be feelin' this song, you need be buying this fab track.
HQ2 - THE remix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! February 20, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Maxi/12" Single for Jenny Lo's UK #1 single 'Love Don't Cost A Thing' is rather pleasent. If anything, i'm glad it includes the fab remix by HQ2, who also remixed Feelin' So Good & Waiting For Tonight and got very good results! The tracks are:-
Love Don't Cost A Thing-
1. HQ2 Club Vocal Remix (10.54) -- The 11-minute nearly dance remix that is great from beginning to end. It will leave you wanting more and surely leave you sweating and you'll have shaken your butt off the dance floor! Easy the best remix for this song -- 6/5 (What more can you give it?!)
2. Main Rap #1 feat. Puffy (3.36) -- After the HQ2 remix I was still expecting some great results more this remix. As I thought the HQ2 remix beyond what I expected it to be and beyond brilliant. This remix was pleasent but nothing more. It took a while to get us too and sounds weird compared to the original. The rap by Puffy is amazing -- 4/5
3. RJ Schoolyard Remix featuring Fat Joe (4.19) -- Everyone has said Fat Joe fails to deliver his rap on this mix, but how???! It's excellent and I loved it at first. I gone off it a bit beacuse it was overplayed. It was available on the J to The L-O: The Remixes CD & she EVEN invited it back to the new single 'Get Right' so it's been a bit overplayed but it's OK -- 4/5
4. Full Intention Remix (7.15) -- It's a long mix so the first thing that comes into everyone's mind is club -- right??? I wouldn't describe it as club, it's rather slow & a funky groove and has a 70's feel to it somewhat but it brings back the five or six star ratings! -- 5/5
Let's Get Loud-
5. Pung Pow Club Mix (8.08) -- Does anyone know who actually remixed this?! It's been listed by Castle Hill Club -- It's been listed as Kung Pow -- even Pablo Flores may have remixed it!? Nevertheless it's a great remix! There is a edit which clocks at 3.57 and a extended edit which clocks at 5.29, on the J to tha L-O: The Remixes album. Check out the Matt & Vivo remixes too! -- 5/5
for jlo fans July 11, 2001 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
if you are a jennifer lopez fan this is for you, if you are a On The 6 and Jlo lover this is for you, if you love the song and/or video this is for you. if you dont like jennifer lopez but like the song and are into remixs then you might start liking her alot after you get this. this single is great, i love it. if you like the video and love the dance break than you will have to get this to feed your need to hear the full (remix) version that the vedio shows at the climax. (track three) this is the one you hear for a few second during the dance break, if you get this play this one first. one thing, on the back cover it reads "03 RJ Schoolyard Mix Featuring Fat Joe (4:19)" but i dont hear Fat Joe on this one it's just Jenn. another thing like in the video during the dance break you hear a very small puase and then the intro remix music and then you hear the chorse right, well on this one you dont need to worry about the break in the middle of the song like in the video its just the whole song with no change of beat (unlike the video and like the cd and radio version) first track is long, there is a three min. intro but it doesn't seem as long when you listen to it all the way that track time is 10:54, you will like this track last but at first you wont but as you get used to the new verions of this song you will llike it more in the end. track two, this is a hot track becasue p.diddy does a rap break. the lyrics and rap order is much like in the video, instead of the dance break you hear the rap BUT the the music on this is different (duh, like in all) im just saying that you shouldn't worry about the rap taking out lyrics or chores. track four is cool at first you might not like this one and the first one because they will sound similar but as you listen more and more you will see that they are not similar at all but you will think they are because it's a new version and you wont hear the differance since its all new to the ear. track five. this is the second best reason why to get this, thsi track is the sexiest track you've hear (maybe not from jenn) but this is the best. you will love this cd, this is a hot cd but you also need to have Jlo.
Hot Remixes Elevate the Album Version Considerably March 24, 2001 christopher! (Bozeman, MT United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
*10 is the highest score on my rating scale and means the song, in my eyes, is a great song. Dance and cruise power refers to the ability of the song to make me want to dance or to pop it in my car radio and go cruising. Creativity refers to the ability of the remixers to add something to the song, to elevate the song to another level. Overall rating scale: POOR, FAIR, GOOD, EXCELLENT, OUTSTANDING.1. HQ2 CLUB VOCAL MIX 10:54--This remix has a slight Middle Eastern flavor to it, initially. It is definitely a song that you would hear in a club. The music is funky. The first 4 minutes of the song are great, then there's a lull. Jennifer's vocals are manipulated, which adds to the uniqueness of this remix, not so much the quality. The music is up beat and very danceable while the lyrics are in slow- mo. This would be a great remix if not for the vocal manipulation. Overall a GOOD remix. Creativity: 8.5/10, Dance and cruise power: 9/10. 2. MAIN RAP #1 FEATURING PUFFY 3:36 --Obviously at the hands of Puffy, this remix has an R&B vibe to it. The remix has a heavy, funky bass as well. I am not an expert on rapping skills, however, I don't think that Puffy's contribution adds that much to the song. The rap certainly doesn't retract from the strength of the song. Overall an EXCELLENT remix. Creativity: 9/10, Dance and cruise power: 9/10. 3. RJ SCHOOLYARD MIX FEATURING FAT JOE 4:19--Sadly, Fat Joe's rap is not included on this version. The remix, however, is by far a very strong remix. Very C+C Music Factory-esque. Overall an OUTSTANDING remix. This remix alone covers the price of the single. Seems like a good remix to choreograph a song to. Creativity: 9.5/10, Dance and cruise power: 10/10. 4. FULL INTENTION CLUB MIX 7:15--This version combines an orchestra with a house type vibe. The song is slightly flamboyant and has the feel of a 70's disco to it. Overall a GOOD remix, not my type of remix though. Creativity: 9.5/10, Dance and cruise power: 7.5/10 5. LET'S GET LOUD [KUNG POW CLUB MIX] 8:09--An added bonus to this collection. A nice club version of this song that maintains the Latin rhythms of the album version--is easy to listen to and danceable. Overall a GOOD remix. Creativity: 8/10, Dance and cruise power: 8.5/10. OUTCOME: After listening to this remix, I look forward to hearing the remixes of "Play," the next release from J-Lo. Tracks 1, 2, and 3 should provide most people who purchase the cd with at least one version that they really like--all three remixes are fairly strong. I would recommend this cd to people who like dance mixes of songs. Happy listening!
JENNIFER LOPEZ ROCKS!!!!! May 8, 2006 tyler This is one of my favorite maxi-singles EVER. It's even better than her amazing "If You Had My Love" single, because none of the remixes are repeated in another edit. There are four distinct remixes of "Love Don't Cost A Thing", and one hit club mix of "Let's Get Loud". The only problem some might see with the single, is that the album version is not present on here. But if you own a copy of the "J.Lo" album, then this CD would be the PERFECT companion for it.
Here is my personal breakdown of the CD:
LOVE DON'T COST A THING
1. H2Q CLUB VOCAL MIX - This is a very interesting dance remix because it darkens the mood of the song to give that club feel. It was remixed by Hex Hector and Mac Quale, which may be why it has the same feel as her amazing club mix of "Waiting for Tonight" (also remixed by Hex). For this mix, the vocals have been re-recorded, and are sung somewhat different that the album version. The beat is really infectous, and it takes the song to a whole new level.
2. MAIN RAP #1 FEATURING PUFFY - This remix is EXTREMELY rare. Actually, I think this is the only CD in the world that it is available on. I personally love this remix. It is my favorite track on this single. The music is very R&B/Electronic, and it's really catchy. Puff's rap is ok, but what I like most about it, is that the beat doesn't kick in until the first pre-chorus, so it has a nice build-up. The lyrics are not re-recorded. This was remixed by Mario Winans, and P. Diddy, and it has a typical "Bad Boy Productions" feel.
3. RJ SCHOOLYARD REMIX - No, this does not feature Fat Joe. So it was obviously a misprint. This was produced by Richie Jones, who also helped produce the original version. For those wondering ***THIS IS THE VERSION THAT IS FEATURED DURING THE BREAKDOWN OF THE "LOVE DON'T COST A THING" MUSIC VIDEO***, so I'm sure you are familiar with how this one sounds. I really like electric guitar/ 80's hip-hop feel. It really makes the song fun to dance to. I'm actually kind of glad that this mix doesn't feature Fat Joe, becase I'm not a huge fan of his, and that version is available on "J to tha L-O!" remix album, anyways.
4. FULL INTENTION CLUB MIX - This version is a disco version of the track. It has the typical disco strings that would be heard on classic 70's songs and the percussion also has that feel, but the dance beat is also reminiscent of house songs from the early 90's. My personal favorite part of this mix is in the middle of it, the song gradually decreases in treble, and gets muffled, and you can really hear the bass, then it clears up again. I'm not sure if the vocals are re-recorded, but nevertheless, they are arranged and edited diefferently, to fit with the disco music.
LET'S GET LOUD
5. KUNG POW CLUB MIX - This version is basically a longer version of the "Pablo FLores Remix", that is featured on "J to tha L-O!" album. I'm not sure why is was not listed as a "Kung Pow" remix on that album, because that is who remixed it (Flores mixed the original album version). Like track #1, this is given more darker club feel It is filled with a repetitive, yet catchy, piano line. Also, there are repetitive horns that are included, which helps keep the latin feel of the song. The lyrics are not re-recorded. I do like how the spoken line "'Cause I'm gonna live my life" is repeated on here, because it adds an edge to it.
______________________________________________________
As you can see, this is a very versitle maxi-single, b/c it has pop, disco, hip-hop, dance/club, R&B, and latin elements on it. If you are a J.Lo fan and/or if you love remixes, you will NOT be dissappointed with this single.
I also reccommend picking up a copy of "J to tha L-O! The Remixes" (If you have not done so already).
