5 out of 5 stars the backstreet boys finally get the remix they deserve!   April 18, 2001

Here we go boys n (mostly) girls! The newest & best batch of remixes from the Backstreet Boys. Working with an original that is quite good, but a couple of these mixes are way more impressive than I thought they would be. Here's the info on 'em.

    1) Album Version - 3:24 - you've heard it on the radio. You've heard it on the cd that I know you purchased. You know how it goes, and you know that you love it.

    2) Fragma Remix - 6:02 - This was a surprise to me. To see Fragma doing a remix of a BSB tune. Fragma, you may recall, released a huge single not too long ago entitled "Toca's Miracle". If you've heard that one, you can hear the inspiration that song gave to this remix. An awesome mix that brings a trance-like element to the BSB. Hard and pounding beats that are destined to get your feet thumpin.

    3) Tom Novy Remix - 6:15 - This mix starts out with quite a slow and monotonous beat and does not do very much after that. It adds a few computer bleeps and blips and sounds like a video game has gone awry. The vocals have been chopped up and been put in front of an interesting beat that is reminiscent of Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams". Although Tom Novy gave this a good try this is not a good mix at all.

    4) Neptunes Remix With Rap - 3:53 - This is the version that is played with the music video. A nice solid R&B bassline is added to this mix to give the song more of an urban feel. The rap is well placed and helps enhance the quality of the remix. Nice work here from the Neptunes (who have also worked with Prince & Kelis)

    5) Kruger Mix - 5:20 - No, your cd is not skipping, although the intro sounds like it is, it's supposed to. Those choppy sounds bring you into the two-step garage sound that is huge in the UK, but doesn't seem to be doing too much anywhere else. This remix shows us why. A dull and plodding mix that bores you to tears, even the most avid of BSB fans will be disappointed by this one. The fact that there are no real use of the boys vocals in here kill this mix.

    6) Thunderpuss Radio Edit - 3:08 - A compact radio edit of the full Thunderpuss mix which is reviewed next. A very good radio edit here.

    7) Thunderpuss Club Mix - 8:26 - Those Thunderpuss boys (who have remixed for Amber, Tamia, Whitney Houston & Deborah Cox among others) give us a fast and furious remix that is eight minutes of pure energy! You can't help but dance to this one! An awesome intro consisting of the refrains of "Gotta go" and a build up of beats to knock your socks off until you reach a fever pitch before the two minute mark when the vocals come into play! An awesome mix here! From the first beat to the very last, you are in heaven!

    8) Thunderdub - 8:00 - A dub is basically the remix with less words. This one is no exception, and although the beats are fast and furious like the mix is, the missing vocals are going to bother some of the more top 40 oriented listeners. And eight minutes of vocal snippets mixed in with tuff beats may be great for the clubs, but for at home listening, it may get to be a bit much.

So pick this disc up for the Original Mix, The Fragma Remix, Neptunes Remix & Thunderpuss Club Mix. If you are a fan of the Boys, you will be glad that you did.

5 out of 5 stars Good remixes   March 20, 2001

The impressive remix track 7, thunderpuss Club mix, which brings you to wonderful world with strong thuderpuss beat and the repetition of 'my heart" in the mix makes you feel very strong.

The second best choice is Neptunes Remixes (with rap), the song has been changed to a completely style with lots of hip-hop tune.

    Lastly, is the track listing

    1. Album verson 3:24 2. Fragma Remix 6:02 3. Tom Novy Remix 6:15 4. Neptunes (with rap)3:53 5. Kryger Mix 5:20 6. Thunderpuss Radio Edit 3:08 7. Thunderpuss Club mix 8:26 8. Thunderdub 8:00

4 out of 5 stars the original is good enough!   December 3, 2001

"the call", the first song from "black & blue" album, yet, a very catchy latino feel of BSB number, niceeeee! it should get 5 stars but because of some of the remixes, sorry, u'll get 4 from me!
the original mix is good enough to get people attention, out of all the remixes, it's the neptune mix that really stays in my player all the time!

    5 out of 5 stars Backstreet Boys - Remixed   June 21, 2002

Say what you will about "The Call" (truthfully, it's a same-old uptempo number from producer Max Martin), but the truth is this: the remixes are red hot! The Neptunes give a little hip hop flava on one mix, and there's a slammin' two-step remix as well. But the Real Deal is the dynamite remix by Thunderpuss (Chris Cox and Barry Harris). These North Hollywood-based DJs inject the single with energy; it's not quite house but rather more of the disco-flavored-pop we've come to expect from this talented duo. Irresistibe! Even better is that the remix is appears in the 7-inch mix, the 12-inch mix and the dub! Backstreet Boys will never be on my "favorite group" list, but the remixes alone made this a worthy purchase. Get dancing or get out of the way!

Just found this interesting remixes... neptunes remix and thunderpuss club mix are the best, pretty hot. But then, The Call was a hot song to begin with, it deserved a remix.
