the first half is bland, but the second half shines March 23, 2001 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
When putting in this cd, i recall seeing the band live at the canyon club, with Factory 81, Downset, etc. I thought they were great, and really stood for themselves on the stage. When they told us that their cd was coming out on March 20, I was sure to run and buy it. When listening to it, I realized how simplistic the music really was, and that most of it has been done before. The first six songs on the cd are pretty lame, and repetitive. But, when my favorite song on the cd, "Nothing" started up, the cd quickly redeemed itself. From then on, nothing but good songs came out of, "Healing." The singer sounds like Scooter from Cold, Aaron from Staind, and Gavin Rossdale from Bush at the same time. The band, on the other hand, is rather straight-forward, like most nu-metal bands. Listen before you buy, and chances are you'll enjoy it for awhile

A Breakthrough Album April 9, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is one of the most original albums I have heard. It's a shame they lost that with their follow-up album. Anyway, this is a great album. Their songs are structured creatively, and each song is different. Unique! There is not one bad song on this album. And the lyrics are not generic! They are catchy and original and make you think. But that can be a bad thing, because radio-people don't want to think. That's probably why Unloco didn't become popular with this album. But if you want to break from the mainstream, pick this album up. Some Top-Picks are: Useless, Clean, Face Down, Nothing.
A Good 1st Effort From Unloco December 4, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First things first...their drummer Pedro (...) rules on this cd, you can hear him loud and clear, i think thats great. Another thing i like about this album is the straight rock sound that Unloco has on both of their albums. The flaw of this cd is some of the lyrics, but hey its their 1st cd. So yea, great drums, and a very nice bass solo on "Panic" (one of my favs)1.Useless: Great song, really original i like how it just starts out w/ no delay, good stuff. Joey's lyrics are really good in this song also. One of my favs. 2.Clean: Its an ok song...the first example of generic lyrics, and the weird techno beat intro thing is kinda pointless. But yea, decent song. 3.Niave: I really like this song, the verse blend right into the chorus, really agressive vocals and lyrics, heavy guitars. I really like this one. Another fav of mine. 4.Face Down: I really enjoyed the lyrics to this song, its something i can relate to. Once again great playing by each member, still havent forgot Pedro (Pete). A fav. 5.Far Side: A decent song, the vocals and lyrics at the end are awesome though. 6.Panic: Almost a rapping thing going on w/ the vocals. Really awesome bass solo at the beginning. The chorus is pretty nice. One of my favs. 7.Nothing: A really heavy, aggressive song. I like the screams from Joey, its got everything you'd want in a heavy song. A semi-fav. 8.Know One: Sounds like youre riding a horse. The instruments all blend together to make it. It's a good song, lyrics need work but hey its their first cd like i said before. 9.Less Of: a bit of a misleading song, you think its gonna be a slower one, but once it hits the chorus youre launch into a heavy song. Dope playing, nice screams, i like it. 10.Reckoning: I really like the verses to this song. But the chorus has got repetitive lyrics, but hey its alright. i like the "i'm not God but i can be". 11.Whimper: Its kinda like "Reckoning" but its got a dope little "rapping" section at the end which makes up for it. But yea, Pedro's still goin. 12. Bystander: The longest song of the cd, but i didnt get bored listening to it. trademark Unloco sound, i like the vocals in this one and the verses. So yea, all around its a dope cd, good for their 1st cd. Its always fun to see how a band grows.
Not Original April 12, 2001 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
Unloco is just another "made to order" metal band. The lyrics are mainly about hating life, there's a major Korn influence, and the riffs all sound the same. The bass player does sound good, but that hardly makes up for this band's unoriginality. If you're thinking of buying this, don't. Instead, buy CD's by origianal bands with good lyrics, and actual talent like Tool, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, and Far. The only good song here is "Face Down."
