Amazon.com The debut album from Eden's Crush is a pleasant surprise for two reasons: one, the girls are well trained, with strong, tuneful voices; and two, the music is good--great, actually. Eden's Crush is the end result of a television show, Popstars, where young women from all over the country auditioned to be one of the five to "live their dreams." The executive producers of this album rely on the groups' talent, giving the Crush smart, upbeat material in which to sink their collective teeth. Fans of the show have heard more than a few of these tracks, especially the debut single "Get Over Yourself," a girl-power anthem kissing off a selfish ex-boyfriend. All the songs (every one a potential single) have the same underlying themes of strength and self-respect. These young women aren't waiting for a knight in shining armor, and their message of independence should play well with teen and preteen girls. Adult listeners won't be disappointed, either. A straightforward cover of the Sheila E. classic, "The Glamorous Life," is almost as much fun as the original. Yes, Eden's Crush is manufactured--a perfect mix of multicultural beauties with the flattest stomachs this side of Britney Spears--but so what? The music and the talent far exceed expectations. --Courtney Kemp

- * The amazingly talented girls of * Edens Crush* May 8, 2001 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
When I first heard of the show, 'PopStars' all that came to my mind was, ' we have another manufacter'd horrible new band. While watching some of the shows and seeing how AMAZING these girls were, proved me wrong by far. The CD is absolutly awesome. They have a great viartey of music. Not to mention these girls can SING! The catchy lyrics of such songs as, 'Get Over Yourself ' , 'No Drama ' , 'You Know I Can' and more, make people want to dance. On the other hand, the cute love lyrics in my personal favorite song , ' Love This Way ' are amazing. The girls have proved to the world that they can make it. Look at them! They are opening up for 'N sync and they just have started. This cd is amazing and EVERYONE should pick it up.
Manufactured Pop Music At Its Best! July 4, 2001 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Okay, so we have, let's see 1, 2, okay, 5 international girls slapped together and lots of hype. That's a given. Here's the surprise: They are actually AMAZING singers. A few tracks are weak, but tell me one CD that doesn't have some of those. I never watched the WB show once, so it came to me as a surpries when I found out how this group of very talented chicks came to be. Here we go again:1. "Good 4 The Goose" This is probably my favorite track. Somewhat like "Bugaboo" meets "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)" In it, the girls say, hey, if you're out with your posse, why shouldn't I be with mine? The catchy "Whatch gonna do, whatcha gon do?" It is just irresistable. The tune will stay with you LONG after the album is through. ***** 2. "Let Me Know" A good song, rythm & pop. The girls all sound excellent in this one and actually seem to feel what they're singing. Very girl power, but very good. **** 3. "Get Over Yourself" Well, this is their first single, and while it didn't impress me at first, I love it now. I go around singing it everywhere. Basically just tells some guy to, well, get over himself, goodbye! Great! **** 4. Anywhere But Here: Now this is a great song, weakening girl power. Gotta get away from old love is the theme, but I love the lyrics and the tune is pretty good. ****1/2 5.Love This Way: FINALLY something to show off their voices instead of the band. You HAVE to hear this one. From beginning to end, you'll be snapping your fingers and trying to guess at the lyrics. ***** 6.No Drama: This is my life, right here. "Everytime I see you/ giving me bad news/ I'm gonna let you go/... If you always bring me down/I'm gonna let you go." Just basically says "Hey, start living your own life" and that is the best message you can get from anyone/thing. ***** 7.I Wanna Be Free: It just sounds like "Get Over Yourself" with different lyrics. Sorry, try again, girls. ** 8.Glamorous Life: Second best of the album, but I liked the original. From the updated eighties sound to the matter-of-fact attitude with which it's sung, I think you'll love it as much I do. 9. 1,000 Words (Mil Palabras): Beautiful Spanglish song. The mix of Spanish sections with Eniglish sections makes this one a real winner. With the soft beat and catchy lyrics, you'll be brushing up on your conversational Spanish without even knowing it! **** 10. Two Way: Love IS a two way street, however this song doesn't express that very well. Overdone topic, under par melody. ** 11. It Wasn't Me: Great song! Some girl is spreading nasty rumors about the ladies of Eden's Crush, of course, some rumors aren't completely unfounded... somewhere along the lines of "Oops!.. I Did It Again" (Britney Spears) meets- well, Eden's Crush! Truly wonderful with stunning vocals and a quirky message. ***** 12. "You Know I Can": Pretty love song, but there isn't much feeling in the vocals. Beautiful lyrics and melody, but something is missing in their voices. Worth listening to, though. *** 13."Promise Me" (Hidden Track) Best ballad/love song of the album. Soft sweet lyrics and tender melody make the song one of the most beautiful you've ever heard. ***** Eden's Crush keeps it interesting from the beginning to the end of this superb album, above the average of most pop CDs. One girl group to watch, not just on the WB!
Five New Beauties Go *POP*.... May 2, 2001 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
So here they are, finally, Eden's Crush, the girls we all cheered and cried and yelled about for weeks and weeks on "popstars".... (ok, maybe it wasn't quite that dramatic for all of us, but still...). And now we have the full CD. And here's what I have to say about it.If you like polished pop, get this CD. This CD is not trying to be high art, so it's senseless to me for people to go on and on about overdone lyrics and poppy hooks, etc. This *is* pop, and it is very good. The five girls- Ivette, Maile, AnaMaria, Nicole, Rosanna- are all gorgeous and wonderfully talented. Their voices have a beautiful blend (which is *not* just editing, judging by several live performances I have seen), and every single one of them can shine with a solo as well. There just doesn't seem to be a weak link here, which is no surprise to those of us that watched the rigorous audition process. Several of the songs are very rhythmic and upbeat-- "what's good 4 the goose," "it wasn't me," "get over yourself," and "i wanna be free" especially-- with tight effects and editing which make them feel like edgy dance anthems (image: all the seventh grade girls in a big circle at the dance, shouting along together). Some of the slower cuts-- "love this way" and "mil palabras" especially-- let us see real vocal talent here. The girls do a cover of "glamorous life" which is just great fun to hear. And a few of the songs-- "it wasn't me" and "mil palabras"-- have a spanish flavor to them, as a nod to some of the girls' Hispanic roots. I mean sure, everyone loves to be "cool" and put down pop and talk about how the lyrics are pretty average, and there is nothing "revolutionary" about these tracks... and chances are that if you feel that way, you shouldn't bother with Eden's Crush. Pop music is pop music, and if you like it, you'll like this. It's catchy, it's fun, every track is very listenable, and you'll be singing along long before you reach "you know i can".... Eden's Crush is a welcome addition to the family of pop talent. Definitely reccommended.
Great Album! June 12, 2001 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've always been a pop fan all my life but I had to admit, I was getting a little tired of it. But when I heard Eden's Crush they put songs on their new album "Popstars" I realized that pop couldn't be coming to an end with songs with pop with R and B twist and also just straighforward pop songs. Here's a reveiew on each of the songs. What's Good For The Goose-Very catchy beat, the lyrics are kind of confusing but once you know what it's really talking about, you find that the lyrics are very intelligent and put into good words (It means that if you're going to treat the girl a certain way than it has to be the same with the guy) Let Me Know-Straightforward pop song, shows a great side of the girls' voices, great harmonies Get Over Yourself-Girl power song, very catchy beat and meaningful lyrics, it's one of the songs that you will get tired of but it's good while it lasted Anywhere But Here-Very cute play on the lyrics. One of the songs that gets stuck in your head, great solos Love This Way-This ballad is a very meaningful and beautiful song. Perfect to play while the one you love is around. Great harmonies. No Drama-Another girl power song, shows off a better tone of the girls' voices, more intricate and shows that they really can sing I Wanna Be Free-Very, very cute lyrics, another girl power song, R&B feeling to it Glamorous Life-Perfect for adult fans, cover of Sheila E's song, not bubblegum pop song like most pop princesses would sing today. 1,000 Words-This Spanglish song is very cute and great voices on the song, you'll soon be snapping your fingers to the song and singing loudly along Two-Way-Very cute lyrics, shows off their great voices, great message It Wasn't Me-My favorite song on the album! Great lyrics, favorite lyric:Was it the lipstick on his shirt what gave that man away well red hot masquerade it was never my shade" Cute, cute song, great message! You Know I Can-One of those songs that'll make you say "You go girl!", really cute seductive song Promise Me-This song is a very beautiful ballad, again not another bubblegum pop song, shows off each of the girls' voices, great for playing when your sweetie is around
EDENS CRUSH INTO A FLOP! May 1, 2001 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
I like these girls, I really do, and their first single "Get Over Yourself" is good pop, however the rest of the album just falls into blah, blah, blah pop.Every teenage girl across America is going to hate me for this review, but come on girls, get through the toned bodies, the make-up and the Jose Eber hairdos, and really look at what this band really is. The girls are sweet, they can sing, but they are controlled by a corporation that are putting out mindless pop with no real standout hooks. All the songs except the first single are just boring. You would think if the corporation that formed this group would put some money into their investment by finding the best pop songs around, but noooooooooooooo. Here we go again from O-Town to LFO to Westlife to now Eden's Crush a man made band with no real ingredients. A shame....Why don't you girls try a girls new album called "MYOB" she was once the teen starlet of the 80s and her album is full of real pop music with hooks....her name is Deborah Gibson - who actually WRITES and PRODUCES her own songs and is on her OWN LABEL and controls her OWN CAREER. Girls this is the new millenium, what happened to GIRL POWER!
