Belgian EURO-TRANCE/POP at its BEST January 21, 2003 andy (Cleveland, OH) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Well, lately we have been blessed with a lot of Great European TRANCE/POP music with DELICIOUS MELODIES and ANGELIC FEMALE VOCALS. For Example: DJ ENCORE, MILK INC, LASGO, IAN VAN DAHL, FRAGMA, DIANA FOX, NOEMI and many, many others. This album is NOT an exception. It is very very similar to DJ ENCORE's album called "Intuition". It's POP Music with female vocals, all covered in Trendy and Beautiful Trance/Techno sounds. There is NOT a single bad song on this CD. I fully enjoyed EVERY track from 1 to 10 plus the 2 hidden remixes. "Turn the Tide" REMIX is such a POWERFUL EURO-TRANCE song. The Melodic Trance strings flow right through your whole body. It's Incredible, and a treat to any Trance-music fan. Most of the songs here are done in POP/TRANCE style, with only a few exceptions. "In Your Eyes" is one of the most BEAUTIFUL BALLADS I've ever heard. It's HEAVENLY. So is "Secrets". "The Edge of Life" is an R&B-like tune, with a Great Techno Beat and a CATCHY MELODY (MUCH MUCH BETTER than American R&B of Janet Jackson, Usher, or Destiny's Child). All other songs are SUPERB DANCE/TRANCE/POP numbers. The melodies and the vocals will not only touch your feet, but will also touch your heart. It's INCREDIBLE. Also, If you like Celine Dion or Sarah Mclachlan, then you will LOVE this (It's Even Better, I promise). So if you ever want to hear a TRULY GREAT ALBUM, then Give Sylver a "Chance" (he he he). I promise you will be moved and will fall "Forever In Love" with their BEAUTIFUL and CATCHY music. Thank You and Enjoy.
5 Shining Stars for SYLVER!!!!! August 7, 2002 M. Demings (North Kingstown, RI United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is Sylver's DEBUT album and what an awesome album it is! I swear to you all that every track is a potential radio single and club smash! This is totally worth the import price! You get 10 slamming dance/trance tracks, PLUS you get 2 hidden remixes if you fast forward past track 10. The two hidden remixes are remixes of "Turn The Tide" and "Skin"!! One of the best tracks on this album is "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes". If you like "Turn The Tide" then check that one out! If you like DJ Encore featuring Engelina, Fragma, La Luna, Alice Deejay and Ian Van Dahl, you will absolutely fall in love with SYLVER! Get the import now, as it doesn't seem like this will EVER arrive in the states!!
Belgian Techno-Pop Due is Shining Everywhere in Europe August 29, 2001 Harout Panjarjian (Los Angeles CA, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Their first single called "Turn The Tide" has been seen not only in the Belgian official-single-chart but also in many other European charts including Germany's (where they are simply loved), France's, Holland's, Spain's. I personally discovered SYLVER through the German charts, where they have gone with their "Turn The Tide" as high as no.2 in the official-single-chart (Media control). This duo, I must say, is not only popular becuase of the right production team that makes the perfect techno-dance sound but also because of the 20 year-old Silvy De Bie (female part of the duo), who simply takes the act to another dance level with her sensational voice. I recently bought their album "Chances" wherein I found not only their singles "Turn The Tide," "Forever in Love," (which is another one of their singles entered in the German top 20), and "Skin" but also many other tracks that you simply want to hear over and over again. Despite all the great techno-dance tracks, the act proves its versatility with their slow-hip-hop flavored track called "In Your Eyes" (already released as a single and is in the Belgian official-single-chart, Ultrapop).
The best album a person can own January 2, 2002 arthur shaykevich (New York) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have never heard a better album then sylver's chances. Nearly every song is perfect and an instant club hit. I would recommend this album to everyone. Wish there were more albums like this one. Also, if you love this album try Milk Inc.'s Land of the Living album
Forever in love April 5, 2006 E. A Solinas (MD USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
One of the more underated bands in electronica is Sylver, a Belgian trance/dance duo that turns out relentlessly pretty music. And their debut album "Chances" was a surprisingly polished debut, with lots of silky Europop electronica with some R&B and balladic flourishes. It opens with "Turn the Tide," a shimmering trancey song that has enough of a beat to get you bouncing in your chair. It has some typical pop lyrics, but Silvy De Bie's pretty voice keeps them interesting. "I can't believe/I still receive/so much affection/from your side..." Add a couple more little "my love for you is dyin'" songs. Then with "Forgiven," we get De Bie singing "I want to be forgiven/I want to hold you in my arms again." From there on, it's softer-edged love songs, some with pretty synth in songs like "In Your Eyes," but opting for a dancier sound in the shimmying "Edge of Life." There's even a horn-trance song. Unfortunately, Sylver is currently the sort of band you might hear good things about, but pretty much never see in music stores. Yeah, it's synthy dancepop, which is usually cheesy and cold. But Sylver manages to add a dash of warmth and romantic longing to their music. Wout Van Dessel does an excellent job with the trancey beats, and he crafts some catchy melodies that don't quite get repetitive. In some of the more electronic songs, they start to get repetitive, only to have Van Dessel throw in a twist or an ultrafast series of beats. And did I mention that I love the R&B-style horns in "Angel on My Shoulder"? De Bie's voice also makes this above average. It has pretty typical pop lyrics, full of love betrayed, lost or gained, usually with the title words repeated many times ("In your eyes/I could drown and still survive/in your eyes/I could see how to live my life"), but De Bie's voice is sweet, bright and even angelic when she's getting really emotional. Sylver's debut album has a few problems, but the energy and vibrance of "Chances" overwhelms that. A charming, fun trance album.
