| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Wannabe pop queen Willa Ford disses "cheesy (lyrics) about butterflies, sunshine and candy" in the liner notes of her debut album. She might actually score the attempted points against the likes of Mariah Carey and Mandy Moore if her own songs didn't cling desperately to a handful of similarly radio-ready templates. Here horny ("I Wanna Be Bad"), there bitchy ("Joke's on You"), everywhere wistfully lookin'-for-love ("Tender," "Prince Charming"), Ford hardly stakes out her own vocal turf either. She draws on third-hand Britney affectations and the occasional Carey-like dog-whistle squeal, while various production teams cobble together similarly derivative tracks. Ford's romantic fireworks with a Backstreet Boy brought her a small notoriety long before this CD's appearance, and "Tired" makes it clear that she already considers herself a big-enough name that listeners will respond to gripes about fame she hasn't yet achieved. As if. --Rickey Wright

Oh God, Willa Ford is terrible. Please, people, for the love of God - don't buy this CD! Willa's career needs to come to an end.
Willa Was Here... Now She Should GO AWAY! November 28, 2001 14 out of 22 found this review helpful
In the words of the Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons: Worst CD EVER! Willa can't sing, plain and simple. But what can you expect from someone who only got a recordng contract because of who they dated? (...). I noticed that (most of) the songs fall into one of three categories: (A)"I'm a bad girl. I like sex." (B)"I'm still obsessed with my ex and like to diss him." (C)"I'm better than Britney and everyone else!"1. "I Wanna Be Bad" - An overproduced piece of junk. Willa's voice is so manipulated that isn't really HER voice... which is maybe a good thing! (Category: A) 2. "Did Ya' Understand That" - A song about how her ex-boyfriend (...) and she doesn't want him any more. La di freakin' da! Maybe it would be better revenge if she'd actually sing a GOOD song! (Category: B) 3. "Ooh, Ooh" - Just like the title, an idiotic song. The music is annoying, and the whole point of the song is about how much she thinks guys want her. Even her fans don't usually like this piece of (...). (Category: A) 4. "Tired" - This song is almost laughable. Willa complains about the "clones that look like me." Sorry, Ms. Ford, but YOU are the clone! The other girls were first, loser! She also claims to be "tired of the pop that should flop, that should never be." Kinda like this whole damn CD! (Category: C) 5. "Jokes On You" - A song about a boyfriend who cheats. How original. Of course, she has to add her "bad girl" touch by claiming that she was cheating on him the whole time, too. Hence, the joke is on him. The music doesn't fit the song, either! It's all happy and poppy and nice, and the lyrics don't fit. (Category: B) 6. "Tender" - A sorry excuse for a ballad. We begin with Willa talking in her "ghetto" voice about how her heart has been broken. Then, she showcases her EXTREMELY weak voice. If you had doubts that this girl could sing, this one proves that she can't! (Category: None, really. She didn't write this one, so that's why it's not in one of the three categories.) 7. "Don't You Wish" - (...) She sings about a guy who already has a girlfriend, and how she wants to have a (...) fling with him. Not a relationship (...). Isn't she a great role model for young girls? Plus, the music is basically just a remix of "I Wanna Be Bad." (Category: A) 8. "Prince Charming" - A pure pop song about how she needs her "Prince Charming" to rescue her. And to think she says her lyrics aren't cheesy! This is pure Velveta! (Category: C. She says Britney's songs are too sweet, then what the hell is this?) 9. "Somebody Take The Pain Away" - The easiest way to take the pain away? Turn off this CD! But, as for the song, it's really pointless. She pretty much just repeats the same words over and over on a repetitive, boring, track. (Category: B) 10. "Haunted Heart" - This song is freaky. I've heard the melody somewhere else, I just can't put my finger on WHERE I've heard it. It's a really weird song about her putting a spell on... guess who?... her ex, to get him back. (Category: B) 11. "Dare" - The word "dare" is actually sung ONCE in this entire song, while the word "nasty" is repeated ad nauseum. It's basically about getting "nasty" with some guys at a party. Whoop-dee-do. (...). It's just annoying! (Category: A) There you have it. The lowdown on every worthless track on the CD. BOTTOM LINE: Avoid this CD like the plague! It's a waste of money and time.
"Willa" lives up to her ambition...she's bad July 21, 2001 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
She can't sing. Her songwriting skills are limited. Her claim to fame is that she dated a pop singer who used his clout to get her a recording contract. When her lack of talent cost her that contract, she signed with a new label, took over a year to come up with a new CD, and here is the result: a bitter, pathetic attempt to be "cool" by being "bad." Willa, the joke's on you. You want to sound different but you sound just like everyone else. [....]
Willa was here, and at this rate, won't be back September 29, 2001 11 out of 17 found this review helpful
Ok, let me just say, the only reason I decided to give this album a shot was I thought Willa actually had something different and decent to offer. Well, I was wrong. She does write her own LYRICS (not full-fledged songs), but that's the only different thing about her. Her voice isn't exactly decent. It sounds really nasal, ... or something. She tries to incorperate R&B/Urban beats and grooves into her pop sound, but it ends up sounding really generic and redundant, in other words, WAY TOO COMPUTERIZED. I wish these women singers would try something else for a change. Enough of the R&B thing. If you want REAL ATTITUDE, try ROCK or something. Geez. Here's a quick track-by-track review: 1.I Wanna Be Bad- 2 words, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.2.Did Ya Understand That?- What's there to understand? This sounds like any other generic piece of crap everyone's heard. 3.Ooh Ooh- People probably say this everytime they listen to it. And I mean that in a painful way (like when their ear drums bust). 4.Tired-How dull is this? It all just says what she's doing. Like: 1st verse: Manufactured/is this hot pop industry.... what do you think' happened to her? DUH! 2nd verse: Shame/is this game you play for fame... looks like she won that game (of shame). 5.Joke's on You- Seems like it's the other way around if you ask me. 6.Tender- ok, this is just the worst ballad I've ever heard. Britney's done better than this. 7.Don't You Wish-oh yeah, don't I wish she would SHUT UP! 8.Prince Charming- someone she'll NEVER find at this rate. 9.Somebody Take The Pain Away- Please do! It's hurting my ears. 10.Haunted Heart- kinda makes you wonder where she got the nickname "Willa Da' Witch" from. 11.Dare- Yeah sure, I "Dare" you to name a good thing about this song. Ok overall, this is just another "flash in the pan" act. If Willa wants to be more successful, she needs better material, better vocals, and a better attitude, cos' I don't think a ... like her would ever last in this business, even if she dated a ... Backstreet boy.
Nothing New July 19, 2001 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
This CD is nothing the average pop fan hasn't heard. The only difference is that, rather than going to a professional songwriter, Willa Ford wrote her own cheesy pop lyrics. Her voice is nothing to jump about; she can barely handle her own simple melodies. And when she blatantly goes off-pitch in Joke's On You and Dare, you can do nothing but laugh. And in Tired, the self-glorifying egomaniac's theme song, the line "One hit wonder melodies who cannot sing a note," seems to be more autobiographical than anything else. Lets hope the title is prophetic, and that Willa will be a thing of the past REAL soon.
