    Album Description
Now deleted domestically, The import version features 6 tracks. Tracks, 'Loverboy', (Featuring Cameo), (Remix Featuring Da Brat & Ludacris), (Club Of Love Mix), (MJ Cole Remix) & (Dub Love Remix) along with the enhanced video to 'Loverboy'. 2001.

    Album Details
Highly anticipated single from her 'Glitter' LP debut on Virgin Records (which also doubles as the soundtrack to the motion picture 'All That Glitters'). Rather than sample Cameo's 'Candy', whose melody serves as the basis of this song, Carey brought Larry Blackmon and Thomas Jenkins into the studio to recreate a fresh new sound. Includes exclusive rap mix with Ludacris & Da Brat.

5 out of 5 stars Another Mariah Masterpiece!!   June 8, 2005

I don't know why everyone hates Glitter, the album Glitter and any of the singles because Mariah's voice is amazing and I actually like the movie and CD because, unlike most people, have an open mind and can appreciate it! I love Loverboy and all the remixes, all 9 remixes that were made, especially the Club Of Love Remix and the MJ Cole London Dub Mix! A few of the remixes, MJ Cole Remix, MJ Cole Instrumental, and MJ Cole London Dub Mix, even have this Jazzy sound to it and it makes it very unique! The song Loverboy is very unique! I wish people would just stop saying that Glitter and the Glitter CD flopped because anyone with real taste would love Mariah going back to the 80's sound and any REAL Mariah fan would appreciate the album and movie like I do!! I actually cried during Glitter because Mariah did such a wonderful job and she showed all these emotions! It's just really sad that so many people have to put down the most beautiful, powerful, soaringly 7 octave voice in the world!! Thank You So Much Mariah for making another wonderful album, Glitter, and for the movie Glitter, I am your TRUE fan until the end of time!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Could Be Worse   November 15, 2003

I must admit that I did like this single, and that "Glitter" (the soundtrack) was o.k. I really don't understand all the negative criticism. I guess her high vocals are just wearing thin. As a whole "Loverboy" is a naughty treat for the R'n'B lovers and Mariah lovers. Not for everyone, but not bad.

    4 out of 5 stars Loverboy   August 17, 2001
    Leon (Australia)
From the tracklisting listed above, it looks close enough to the Australian version of the single with a light blue border around the picture. Anyway, onto the reviewing. Honestly, this single isn't brilliant. I mean, it's not a "Fantasy" which in my opinion is her first and only decent fast number and was irresistible when I first heard it all those years ago. "Loverboy" on the other hand is different. It's hard to determine the rhythm of the song with all those vocals toppled one over another let alone trying to deteremine what Mariah is actually singing.

Mariah has a great vocal range and there's no denying that but Mariah doesn't seem to be using her asset wisely. Another annoying fact in regards to this single is that not long after, this single will be titled Da Brat featuring Mariah Carey. I am serious. Mariah should sing solely on her own on the original version of the song and then put these guest rappers on the remixes and she can load them all up for all I care.

I find that ever since "Heartbreaker", there was never a single released except for "Can't Take That Away" where there was no one else featured on the single. It's great if Mariah's collaborating with different artists on every single but it does get repetitive when Da Brat is featured on virtually every up-tempo single Mariah has released.

When it comes to the remix I strongly believe that Da Brat sung more than Mariah and for all you rap fans out there, you can rejoice but this is a Mariah single we are talking about here therefore it should be mostly Mariah's vocals. I prefer the Club Of Love remix much more because Mariah sings solely on this remix with re-sung vocals different from the album version and David Morales has once again done a fabulous job at remixing the single. The MJ Cole remix on the other hand sounds like a Craig David song if Mariah weren't singing. Nevertheless, Mariah still sounds great as the first verse and bridge was changed around. On this remix, you can hear Mariah's vocals more clearly as we don't have to try and differentiate Mariah's overlaying vocals with Mariah's background vocals. I seriously got annoyed on the album version where the lead vocal, background vocal both from Mariah and Cameo were all singing at the one time. I mean, how can we concentrate on the song properly. Finally, The Dub Of Love version isn't too fascinating because the whole song was never sung in completion. Mariah just added her vocals once in a while throughout the whole remix. If this is the Australian edition of the single, there is also a CD Rom component which enables you to watch the video.

Mariah is beautiful and extremely talented but there is one major problem. Mariah is showing too much skin and not enough talent. If only it was the other way around, Mariah would have had enough #1 hits to fill three CDs. Nevertheless, this is a above average single after all but not a touch near Mariah's finest work. Here is the offical tracklisting: 1. Album version 3.50 2. Remix 4.32 3. Club Of Love Remix 9.02 4. MJ Cole Remix 5.50 5. Dub Of Love Remix 8.13 6. CD Rom Component of Video 3.48

2 out of 5 stars This Is When I Stopped Being a Fan   June 28, 2006

When I first heard this song, I was absolutely appalled at the childish lyrics, the tissue-thin vocals, and the blatant sampling of another song. Then I heard the deejay say "Mariah Carey", and I was taken aback. I've always regarded Miss Mimi as a very gifted singer/songwriter, so to know she was respinsible for this pathetic song was shocking. Then I bought the "Glitter" album, and the whole album was just as bad.

Mariah- what happened to your singing and songwriting abilities? You used to be so incredibly talented, now you're just another run-of-the-mill Ciara or Rihanna.
