Verandi is the Best "Vespertine" track ! Get this B-Side! September 11, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you like Bjork and her latest Vespertine cd, then disc-1 of her first cd-single for Hidden Place is a Must Have. It contains, what I consider to be the best track from her Vespertine recordings - "Verandi". Available only on this disc as a "B-Side" it is completely worth the import price if you have been bitten by the Bjork bug! I play "Verandi" at its loudest in my car, on my headphones and at home and am enchanted by its magic. Bjork sings her spell in what I guess is her native Icelandic language (the translated lyrics are on bjork.com) with swooning sci-fi orchestration that will blow your mind ! I pray that she will perform "Verandi" when she plays at the Paramount in Oakland. (Bjork if you're listening.... pretty please with elves on top, please sing this song in person!). In addition to Verandi, this cd-single comes with the regular version of "Hidden Place" and another B-side "Generous Palmstroke" (which is listed as the bonus track on the import version of full Vespertine cd). "Generous" is a compelling mix using instrumentation that recalls Dead Can Dance and only makes the single all the more worth having... If your ear is in Bjorks pocket these days, you will not regret getting this cd-single!

I got this mainly for "Verandi", which I assume is named after a figure from ancient Norse and Germanic beliefs. One of the "norns" if you're familiar with them..Verandi represents the present, and her name means "that which is becoming". Anyhoo...I think this will meet anyones standards, especially a Bjork-aholic like me. The music in Verandi is riveting. I was definitely happy with it.
