A New Millenium, A New Britney December 3, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As the first single from her third solo album, "Britney," Britney Spears returned to the airwaves with this single that not only caters to the listening preferences of young teens, but also to an urban/dance crowd. Utilizing strong beats and having somewhat of an urban, yet rap-free feeling, "I'm A Slave 4 U" is one of Britney's best singles ever. Gone are the days of singing about adolescent love and other themes cornered by the numerous teen acts out there. This single introduces a new Britney, one in the same caliber as Cristina Aguilera, where she wished to express the she is no longer a little girl. The video for this song validates this, as we see Britney as a now sultry, determined woman willing to explore her carnal desires. This song also marks a first for Britney as it became one of her few songs to successfully cross over to urban audiences (who loathe boy bands and teenage vixens). After it was remixed by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, urban audiences accepted Britney as a member of the genre and their has been no regrets. "I'm A Slave 4 U" definitely marks a turning point in Britney's career. I only wish that top name remixers such as Thunderpuss, Hex Hector, and/or Johnny Vicious had done remixed versions of this great song. Regardlessly, it's a great song that breaks the music mold set already in place by numerous, and usually talentless teenage solo artists and boy bands.
great job December 14, 2002 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Finally this girl comes out of her shell. She says things that make sense. The lyrics and music are great. This song is more of an adult song (due to mature content) so kids have no business with this. What I didn't like was the remix. It was awful. She needs to really study how remixes are done to make a crossover to a r&b/urban market. I mean I have been to the clubs in Detroit (not southfield, not pontiac but detroit) and DJ's felt like this was a joke. And if it doesn't work out there then you know it wasn't very well received elsewhere. Overall the song shows she has the ability to put fourth better music.
