The more money you spend on production.... August 8, 2002 G. Van Der Bent (Katwijk, The Netherlands) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
"...the bigger pile of (shit) you come up with!"The above is a quote by SLAUGHTER producer Brian Taylor, the man behind such other classic Canadian acts like SACRIFICE and RAZOR. STRAPPADO really defines the word classic. For years I was in a trashmetal outfit and besides covering NOCTURNAL HELL these guys were such a big influence on us, with their simplistic but o so effective riffing and really bonecrushing (alas a bit dated) lyrics. Their songs still send chills down my spine when hearing them. If I have to name one classic song of this album it must be DISINTEGRATOR-INCINERATOR, it was later covered by NAPALM DEATH and features the trademark double yelling and grunting of both Terry Sadler and Dave Hewson. Especially Hewson has been a real inspiration for me as a singer, with his clear articulation and distinguishable voice. I also recommend his later SLAUGHTER album NOT DEAD YET which even has more of a trash/ bay area feel than this one. This comes highly recommended to al extreme metalfans. Modern day posers who worshipp acts like CRADLE OF FILTH and DIMMU BORGIR should wake up and acknowledge what kind of groundbreaking work acts like SLAUGHTER and for example HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST have done for the genre. This will eat you alive!
Forget those glam rock wussies... March 11, 2003 MtlGod (Boynton Beach, Florida United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
THIS is the real Slaughter! Gloriously raw and primitive, after a few listens you will realize just how heavy and extreme this album must have sounded at the time (1986). Comparable to Hellhammer (and early Celtic Frost), this band plays barbaric thrash, with plenty of crushing grooves thrown in for good measure. Along with acts like Possessed, this band would go on to become an early prototype for what would eventually be known as death metal. Awesome! You definitely need this if you are into old school thrash or death. Make way for the Incinerator!!!
Classic Canadian band April 10, 2002 Sean (Lakeland, Fl.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Don't be confused with the name Slaughter. THIS Slaughter lived-up to the name; grinding guitars, punk-influenced vocals, and one hell of a drummer. I've just recently heard of this band and decided to do my Metal homework on them, and I must say this is one classic Canadian Metal band. Slaughter were ahead of their time wether it was downtuning their guitars, injecting old-school Punk into their music, or having somewhat silly lyrics speaking against Nuclear Missles. Slaughter never really made their dent on the world outside of the Underground Metal community, but their influence are strong in modern bands such as Napalm Death, and a whole lot more. If you like classic 80's Metal with balls, get "Strappado". Also check out other innovative Heavy bands such as Pentagram from Chile, Sarcofago, Repulsion, Vulcano, and Warhammer.
Slaughter-strappado review November 14, 2001 Fergal (Dublin, Dublin Ireland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A very very powerful album, really simple riffs, but they grind so hard, you'll be banging your head to every one, the live tracks on this CD were a joke though-sound was terrible + it was as if they were playing to an uncaptive audience of 3 poeple in a garage, still, I didn't buy it for the live stuff, so I was still really impresed with it overall, the bonus tracks are excellent--a great value buy--get it before it disappears into history!!!!!!
Classic Thrash Metal Pioneers! September 30, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At last, the grounbreaking album that started it all is rereleased, remixed and remastered on digi Cd!Ultra heavy riffs that go from fast as lightening to slow, crunching and heavy like Black Sabbath on 45 r.p.m.Also comes with 13 live tracks, recorded at Slaughters very, first, live show and 4 bonus, studio tracks from the "Strappado" recording sessions...A must for thrash, metal lovers!
