| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The multiplatinum kings of MOR nu metal have gotten a bit more aggressive and intense--to fine effect--on some of Weathered's 11 stellar, radio-friendly tracks. For those who prefer the soft side of singer/stud Scott Stapp and his cohorts, there are the melodic and soaring "Hide" and "Don't Stop Dancing." But more interesting is "Bullets," which finds Stapp raging before a surprisingly heavy and intense musical backdrop. Other highlights include the Seattle-sound throwback "Freedom Fighter," the Zeppelinesque "Who's Got My Back," and the disc's first single, "My Sacrifice." The effects-laden, passionate "Signs" contrasts nicely with the laid-back, world-weary title track and "Lullaby." Ultimately, Weathered gently expands the seemingly fail-proof formula. --Katherine Turman

Probably Their Best CD November 21, 2001 54 out of 67 found this review helpful
Creed's CDs have always contained very melodic, catchy hard rock songs / anthems, and Weathered is certainly no exception. However, with this CD, Creed have definately added an edge and heaviness to their music that wasn't present on their previous albums. The 1st four songs are probably the heaviest that Creed has put on a CD, and they are so good that they alone merit a 5 star rating for this album ("Signs" and the 8 minute epic "Who's Got My Back" are my personal favorites). The middle of the album contains the expected radio-friendly hard rock that Creed does so well. I, for one, find the quality of these songs to be superior to those produced by similar bands, such as Staind and the god-awful Puddle of Mudd. Creed is able to generate a melodies and tunes in these kinds of songs that are far above their collegues. While I thoroughly enjoyed Creed's other 2 CDs, I personally feel that Weathered is their best CD by a decent margin. Stapp's vocal and Tremonti's guitar have never been better or more decisive. Definately pick up this CD if you liked Creed's previous work or if you just like good hard rock music a la Full Devil Jacket, Nickleback, Saliva. Stay away if you are looking for rapmetal or hardcore. 5 stars for an excellent hard rock compilation.
Awful, but isn't the #1 album usually awful? January 17, 2002 30 out of 49 found this review helpful
As i read in a recent review, Creed are the modern day equivelant of Journey. Low on substance, lyrically and musically trite, but ridiculously popular with suburban types who don't know any better. People who like their rock non threatening, processed and watered down. Pretty much aural wallpaper. These guys arent the worst rock music has to offer, but they certainly aren't very good. The drummer for this band plays the worst, most uninventive drums i have ever heard. Lumbering. And with this album, it is obvious all the giant leaps these guys have made musically(sarcastic). Talk about milking a sound for all it's worth. Anyway, these guys are harmless, the real rock will always be under the surface for those with a sense of what matters to find. Cheers!

The first two songs are a bit "hard" for my taste, but the rest of the tracks are classic CREED. I LOVE THIS BAND. It's nice to find music I can have in common with my kids. The lyrics are pure poetry and the music just fills your soul. I found the song "My Sacrafice" to be a bit lighter and "bubble gummish" than the rest of the album. I love Who's Got my Back, One Last Breath, Hide, and Lullably. This is the Creed sound we have all come to love. ENJOY
No, no, no January 9, 2002 22 out of 30 found this review helpful
"Weathered" is supposed to refer to how Creed has weathered a critical storm of people ripping on their music. Tough. They deserve it. An album cover depicting their faces on a tree with a chainsaw cutting it down isn't going to change reality. This CD is bad, plain and simple. Creed refuse to deviate even slightly from their standard formula, which wasn't even at all original in the first place. The only thing Weathered has going for it is a bunch of distorted guitars and the fact that at least Creed at least haven't thrown a turntable or rapper into the mix. "My Sacrifice" is probably the most annoying Creed single yet, and it will make you long for the days when radio was playing "Higher" every half-hour. The high part vocal where he sings, "above all the others, we'll fly, which brings tears, to my eyes" is sure to annoy even your dog. "Bullets" is Creed's attempt to be all hard and heavy, but it totally lacks a hook and is instantly forgettable. And "Who's Got my Back" totally disrupts the album; its really long, has some lame guest vocals, and is the THIRD track. You would have thought the record producer would have told them to put it towards the end, but no such luck. All in all, a more mainstream version of Human Clay, which was itself a more mainstream version of My Own Prison. People used to rip on Scott Stapp for being an Eddie Vedder soundalike, but after hearing this CD you'll long for the days of songs like Torn and My Own Prison. Plus, I'm sorry but the somewhat preachy Christian lyrics throughout this album are a major turnoff. Mark Tremonti, the most technically talented member of this band, is probably the true reason Creed's sound is so annoying. Just like on the last album, he constantly overplays his guitar, flying all over the fretboard to show off how many little notes he can fit into every moment. Its like, take a clue from Kurt Cobain or something; its the song that matters, not how many notes you play or how flashy your guitar style is. All these songs might be a lot better if Stapp didn't oversing and Tremonti didn't overplay. They make for a very bad combination. Blah, blah, blah, you might hear someone say, "Led Zepplin was put down at first too, blah blah." Who cares? If these guys get any reverence at all 10 years from now then the world has truly gone insane.
Creed represents all that is wrong with rock January 10, 2002 19 out of 35 found this review helpful
Glossy production, vocal posturing, trite and uninspired lyrics, complete and utter lack of integrity, ingenuity, quality.Buy this if you have no desire to listen to good music. Recommendations for those drawn to Creed: Days of the New (Green album) Led Zeppelin (Anything pre-Presence) Pearl Jam Soundgarden Alice in Chains Jeff Buckley Tool Radiohead (start with OK Computer) Trust me, listen to the above artists, and you'll never touch Creed again. And those are just the tip of the iceburg for good music.
