| Customer Reviews: Outstanding cd-single February 20, 2002 Bryan Bradford (California, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
All You Want, the latest cut off Dido's multi-platinum hit No Angel is a great song that makes for an even more interesting single. Released in December of last year in England, this import single is packaged in a 3.5 inch by 3.5 inch slipcase, holding a jewel case approximately the same size, and contains a disk even smaller at three inches in diameter. (Don't worry, despite its small size the disk fits/plays in most cd players and CD-rom drives. Additionally, it's quite convenient and a space saver; would have made a great stocking stuffer during Christmas.) Despite the disk's diminutive size, it contains 19 minutes, 45 seconds of music spread over four tracks, three of which are different versions of "All You Want" and a very rare track, "Christmas Day":1. All You Want (4:03) This song, is one of the best I've heard in a long time. It starts out a little slow, like most of Dido's songs, but then by the middle picks up. Talking of a relationship where Dido was obviously taken for granted, she wonders if her boyfriend realizes that all he wanted was "right here in that room...sitting here with you." Captivating in its simplicity and message, I think we can all relate to its theme. 2. All You Want: Divide & Rule Remix (7:17) Unlike many remixes out there, this song actually does justice to All You Want. While I prefer the classic version (track 1), this song picks up the beat and adds in some of the less unobtrusive elements of techno. 3. All You Want: Live (4:13) Complete with clapping and a "thank you" at the end by Dido, this live version of All You Want, is quite a find. It's always interesting to see how an artist's voice differs from in the studio to on the stage. Dido's voice is just a crisp and clear live, as well as passionate, if tempered by reflection. 4. Christmas Day (4:03) A festive song about returning on Christmas Day, this is a perfect piece for the holiday season, but versatile enough to listen to all year round. Written by Dido, it's a tender ballad with perfectly timed instrumentation. This song is not featured on her album or any other singles, so it's quite a nice addition to this single. As a fan of Dido and her great music, I recommend this single for its unique packaging and great music.
Bryan Bradford said it all! April 17, 2003 Stephen Adkins (Saint Augustine, Florida) I won't spend too much time writing about this CD because Bryan Bradford gave it such a great review better than what I could have. It is a great CD and I am quite happy to have it. I got my copy on Wednesday, April 2, 2003. It's unique and sure to become quite the collectors item especially since it is a limited edition item. I just love that it's a cute little 3" CD with the blue slipcase. Be sure to get your copy while they last! Thanks and take care!
ALL YOU WANT IS THIS! April 30, 2004 S. Quinto (Guatemala, Guatemala) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is Dido's best song from NO ANGEL, such an disarming and heartbreakin' ballad , this is what music is all about, a great song, qwith great lyrics and music, a total pleasure listening to this!, why this got promoted on the AMERICAN SIDE I won't get it?, but at least for us true fans of music this is an underdiscover hit!...better than THANK YOU AND HUNTER!
The problem with remixes............ July 25, 2003 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this cd-single based on the reviews i read about it. while i like the song and enjoy the live version and the bonus track, i'm disappointed with the remix. This is a problem i see way to often, great backing track and most of the vocals removed from the mix! It starts off great, and the first verse kicks in, then music....then it starts off with the second verse(two lines), then stops....music.....cuts into the chorus(a few lines)and then music for another four minutes. This could have been a killer remix, the music is great and really enhance the vocals, but not enough vocals!!!! I'm not a fan of instrumentals, I don't see the point. they rarely have enough elements of the original to make it recognizable, so the vocals are the only thing that keep the song intact. I know cd singles usually have one true vocal mix and one dub(i.e. instrumental) mix which would have been nice here (hey, use a five inch cd). So if you want a true vocal mix of this song you won't find it here. If you just want good background music with vocals scattered, then you will be happy with this.
