| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com It's impossible to dislike Puerto Rican superstar Marc Anthony, even if his English-language material sits safely in pop's middle road. Mended, Anthony's follow-up to last year's sweltering salsa collection Libre, features the same midtempo grooves and emotive ballads that made his 1999 crossover effort a smash--and a textbook example of how record labels sometimes water down passionate Latino artists for U.S. audiences (see also Shakira). Nothing on Mended is particularly unlistenable or offensive, but there isn't much to get excited about either. The lilting pop gem "I Need You" (also included in Spanish) and the sweet sentiments of "Everything You Do" are nice diversions, but producer Cory Rooney has candy-coated everything for mass consumption. Anthony is a powerful, fiery vocalist, and he deserves better than run-of-the-mill arrangements and puppy-love lyrics. On Mended, he's barely able to break a sweat. --Joey Guerra

More Adult Conteporary Than The First English Album June 1, 2002 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Nothing wrong with being more Lite Rock and possibly parting ways the mainstream top 40, but even artists like Chicago or even a Richard Marx and others alike, before and after, their songs were not as monotone or sleepy. His voice is still great, no question about that. But I have to agree with a recent review on this site that he needs a heavier hitter producer. Nothing against Corey Rooney and others that worked on this disc, but someone that has a voice like Marc Anthony should have someone like Quincy Jones and even Mutt Lange to put in better musical arrangements to accompany Marc's voice. The current song that is being played on the radio (track 3) and its Spanish version (track 13) are the best songs on the CD. Catch the other songs at your nearest elevator or dentist office, except "Tragedy". The voice alone does not make the album!
A Must Have For the Summer. June 28, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
There is no doubt that Marc Anthony has one of the best voices in pop music today, and his second english language album proves it once again. There is nothing new on his second effort, its basically an exact replica of his debut, but why mess with a good thing. Where Marc Anthony shines is his ability to deliver a gorgeous ballad with a lot of power and emotion. Songs like I Need You, Mended, and Everything You Do are stunning. His voice sounding better than ever. Of course there are the latin flavored dance tracks like Tradgedy, I Swear, and the first single I've Got You. Songs that need to be played at full volume. They are funky and exciting. Marc Anthony fans won't be disappointed, and hopefully new fans will embrace him and learn to appreciate his superior voice. A must have for the summer.
What Happened????????? May 23, 2002 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
For starters this man has the pipes of a Trans-Atlantic Cruiser and everyone around the world knows this. This CD "Mended" is not one of his best. I loved "Libre" and I do not understand all the words but when you listen to Marc you do not need to understand the words to feel the passion, conviction and soul from Marc when he re-interprets the lyrics of those songs. I get goose pimples up my arms just thinking about the songs he sings on "Libre". Why did Marc not transfer over the passion, conviction and soul of "Libre" over to this "English Speaking CD" "Mended". I was in Puerto Rico when this came out in January on HTV and I was a little excited about its prospects but now that I have listened to "Mended" I am not impressed at all. Marc please return to your Latin/Afro-Carribbean/Freestyle roots and transfer that quality over to your english singing CD and you are going to be fine. I am going to be a fan for life but this is not your best. I would like to see him sing something produced by "D", Angie Stone, Maxwell, Michael Masser, Chaka, Huey Dunbar, Buena Vista Club, Face, Stevie W., Roberta Flack, Cubanismo, Sadiiq, Ms. Badu, Santana or "The Latino version of Patti Labelle, Celia Cruz. I would like him to tackle a traditional gospel tune by Mahalia Jackson because Marc has the voice to conquer that. Come on let someone with unpretenious, wild creative vision work with those pipes man! This time I agree with the reviewer from Amazon.com Joey Guerra verbatim. I would like you to get back to adult, soul-tingling, fiery, torching lyrics and leave this other stuff for "N'sync".
Different, but Nice June 6, 2002 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
This ablum is different from his other English Language album. And although many of us prefer his Salsa songs, this CD is a good one for the collection. Many ballads that aren't as heart-felt as the ones on his previous English album, but there are still some noteworthy songs:#2 - She Mends Me. Beautiful Ballad. Wasn't sure about it the first time I listened to it, but Marc's voice shines through perfectly. #3 - I've Got You. Fun and peppy song to sing. #4 - I Need You. Lovely song, and the background vocals are really cute. #5 - Tragedy. FAVORITE song on my album without question!! Marc's incredible voice gettin' all SOULFUL! #6 - I Reach For You. Most beautiful ballad on the entire album. I listen to this over and over and never get tired of it. #8 - Don't Tell Me It's Love. The lyrics are kind of strange, and the song isn't really a ballad, but it's not a fast song either -- but the verses and the BRIDGE are cool. #10 - Give Me a Reason. Verses are excellent and the chorus grew on me. One of the "faster" songs on the album. #13 - Te Tegno Aqui. Always LOVE hearing the Spanish versions! Wish there were more on this album.
so average it hurts!! May 26, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Marc Anothony Has a Good Voice but the material here doesn't explore it fully.it's safe run of the middle Production&Arrangements.it's the kind of Material Marc could do in His Sleep.I'd really dig Hearing Marc Anothony working with a Quincy Jones or Barry White.Guys that would have Him Backed by a String&Horn Section&would truly showcase His Range.this Kind of Album makes Him Appear like Everyone else out there&if you ever get a chance to truly Hear His Range You Know He is Better than Many Out here easily.
