Amazon.com For his sophomore work, Enrique Iglesias demonstrated a willingness to go beyond the predictable soft rock/pop balladry that marked his first album. Smart, considering that having good looks and a famous father can only carry one so far. On Vivir, Iglesias throws down the rock-guitar edge of "Volvere," on remembering a good love, and the rhythmic pop of "Revolucion," a brooding tune about defiance. Then there's the reggae-flavored "Lluvia Cae." On the ballad side, Iglesias injects emotional depth on "Miente," a passionate stance on refusing to accept the end. All these tunes are alternatively propelled by guitars, piano, and/or percussion. The rest of the CD is pretty much passionless puffery. Still, Iglesias is a young, developing artist, and it is good to see a willingness to try new things, especially in a pop field where supply exceeds demand. --Ramiro Burr

compelling December 25, 1999 Leo Boyle (Northampton, England United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had recently bought four of Enrique's albums ("Enrique Iglesias", "Vivir", "Cosas Del Amor" and "Version En Italiano") via amazon.com, because they are unavailable in the U.K. - I've been a fan since his U.K. singles, "Bailamos" and "Rhythm Divine" and U.K. Debut album, "Enrique" came out this year in 1999. Everything he has recorded , so far, has been compelling and easy to listen to (I don't understand Spanish, but I understand what he is passionately singing about. The music and his vocal approach is very promising). It's hard for me to pick a favourite C.D. amongst his non-English speaking albums, but I've written this review with the "Vivir" album, because I liked his rendition of "Solo En Ti", which I instantly recognized as the old, U.K. hit by Yazoo (Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet), "Only You". Enrique's work is fresh and quite innovative for latin American music - may he continue to shine !

An excellent vehicle for a unique Latin voice October 25, 2001 Michael J. Mazza (Pittsburgh, PA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Enrique Iglesias has one of the most distinctive voices in Latin music: supple, tremulous, and dripping with emotion. I think of him as the archetypal "sensitive guy" singer. "Vivir" is a great showcase for his style; the CD offers a balance of slow, passionate songs and fun, faster numbers."Vivir" starts out strong with the romantic "Enamorado por Primera Vez" and then moves on to "Al Despartar," an intense ballad with a rock flavor. Then comes "Lluvia Cae," a bubbly, fun song that Enrique tears into with total commitment. Other notable selections on the CD are the intense "Miente" and the stirring "Revolucion." Although Enrique has gotten a lot of attention lately for his English-language "crossover" work, I find his most compelling songs to be the type of Spanish language songs found on "Vivir." This is an outstanding CD, and an essential choice for fans of Latin pop.
Brilliant music..great singer October 16, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I cannot believe that anyone could find this man's voice irritating. I am not a teeny bopper (far from it in fact), I can't speak spanish (although I can translate it after a few listens), but I have found this album great. Listening to it over and over. What I like about it the most is the way he performs the songs - the emotion in his voice is clear for anyone to hear and this makes each song a performance rather than just a sing-a-along. It makes a refreshing change from the karaoke-like rubbish that we are continuously bombarded with by others
A Great CD and a must for all fans of Enrique September 2, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Enrique has come a long way; following the footsteps of his father, Julio. In fact Enrique's voice truly has the uncanny familiarity of Julio - sexy, sultry and very romantic. He is the modern version, of course. I love his music and play his CDs all the time - his music is very soothing and puts you in a relaxing mood, especially when listening to his songs at night. Keep singing fantastic music Enrique as I know your music will live on forever.
