Amazing Vocals June 16, 2002 Brianna 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Beyonce Knowles will DEFINITELY be a successful soloist! She has such amazing vocals and they are showcased on her first solo single, "Work It Out." The song has a 70s feel, the beat (produced by the Neptunes) is fantastic, and Beyonce really lets it go on the singing, wailing and belting it out. I can't wait for her solo album to be released! She has some serious talent.
Funkified......... July 28, 2002 Donna Pieters (London, United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I give credit to Beyonce Knowles: as this is her first solo song. Some people may criticise if for sampling/trying to revamp funk, but all I can say is it sure is good. She does a pretty good job of trying to recreate the 70's sound with (can they do NO wrong?) the Neptunes. It is a great song, and in a market where everything sounds similar, this break from the norm is danceable as well as refreshing. Her sexy, sassy vocals radiate soul and give this track the extra kazam that Beyonce wouldn't be able to give with the rest of Destiny's Child. Check out the lyrics and the Calderone mix that's a departure from the norm.
I Am Shock!!... January 30, 2003 K. J. Bryant 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wow, Beyonce really shock me with this 70's style soul-rock song called, "Work It Out". I thought the only thing that Beyonce was good for was singing boring pop songs like "Survivor" and "Bills, Bills, Bills". But this girl really delivered on this song that I know Tina Turner and Chaka are smiling to know that SOMEONE got their message. But this song also revealed another fact about the America's state of mind when it comes to music. This song wasn't a hit. Why a song like "Bug-A-Boo" can be a hit and "Work It Out" can't be a hit is beyond me. However, because of this song, I am looking forward to her first solo album this year.
A very promising solo career June 12, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I must admit, yes I am One of Beyonce's biggest fans and probably wouldn't be a fan of Destiny's Child if she wasn't in it. But this song takes Beyonce to another level. It's very different from anything DC would do. It has like a 70's feel. Its a song you can bump in your car and dance to at the club. Her voice sounds amazing on this song. I only hope her first album that is slated for October release will be just as good and the first single off the album. Good promotion for Austin Powers 3 movie!
Work It Out December 12, 2007 anonymous I couldn't agree with you more "K.J. Bryant" regarding the great 1970's sound of "Work It Out". Maybe I'm biased considering I love 70's style in terms of music, clothes and movies(especially "blaxploits" which I collect) but I'm surprised it wasn't played on the radio airwaves that often. I would have at least thought the more mature/adult stations would give it more play but no. The video put me in a trance....I just think she did a remarkable job recreating the whole 70's vibe and scene. I also agree that the singing divas of that time were smiling in glee, and thinking it's about time a younger person of the "Hip Hop generation" knows how to make a song with pure feeling, passion and funk....just like the 70's use to have it! Anyhow, if anyone has not heard the song yet and you really listen to the lyrics and the beat, you'll understand what I'm saying.
