For all those without a clue August 23, 2006 J. R. Hebert (Chicago, IL) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Please ignore the other reviews on this album. Here are the bare facts. THIS IS NOT A GREATEST HITS ALBUM AND OZZY NEVER INTENDED IT TO BE! There was a limited edition of this album that was released initially containing an interview with Ozzy discussing the album contents as well as other things over the years. In this interview Ozzy explains that the studio and his manager (Sharon) were pushing him to do a greatest hits album. He states that he really hates the idea of greatest hits albums, especially when you have as many hits as he does. Instead, he put together a collection of his personal favorites of the songs he's written and recorded thoughout the years. He states openly that not all of these songs are huge hits and some of them have never been considered that great by many people other than his hardcore fans but that he loves them and that's why they made it onto the album. That's why you get songs like "I Just Want You" off of Ozzmosis instead of the major hit off ot that album, "Perry Mason" which is what they wanted to put on it. It was his way of telling the big guys in the studio to, "Blow it out of their shorts." He's Ozzy. He did it his way and he's going to keep doing it his way and they can't stop him. Personally, I think every song on here is great and definitely some of his best work. I also think it's a great buy for those die-hard Ozzy fans who want to know first hand what Ozzy's fav's are. For all those who wrote crappy reviews of this album without getting their facts straight, in the words of the immortal Ozzman, "Blow it out your shorts!"

I LOVE this CD! A member of one of the pioneer heavy metal bands ever has returned "back to Earth", as well as to his reign as one of rock and metal's greatest frontmen with this spectacular compilation. Now, I'm not gonna start whining like I did with the Best of Van Halen, Vol. 1 and name all the missing tracks. I'll just tell what IS here.
1. Black Sabbath (previously unreleased) - **** - Like the music, the lyrics not so much. If you noticed what the song is about, you might find how it slightly ruins the song. You kind of get "sucked in" when the music picks up.
2. War Pigs (previously unreleased) - **** - GREAT version of a definitive Sabbath jam, though not as good, mainly considering Ozzy's vocals.
3. Goodbye To Romance - ***** - Oddly intelligent ballad. I guess you kind of "grow into it" as you listen to it, more and more. I hated it the first time I went through it, but the chorus later changed my mind.
4. Crazy Train - ***** - Pretty much Ozzy's solo breakthrough. Somehow the music perfectly fits the name.
5. Mr. Crowley - ***** - Last of the Blizzard of Ozz tracks and one of his key songs. Guitarist Rhoads's neo-classical style pulls the song through its nearly 5 minute length.
6. Over The Mountain - ***** - This song would be CRAP without percussion. Sure, the guitar rocks, but without the driving rhythm, it would just be Over The Airwaves.
7. Paranoid (Live) - **** - Almost as good as the original, though I never favored it either.
8. Bark At The Moon - ***** - One of the first Ozzy songs I ever heard, and remains one of my definite favorites. The title track of the Bark At The Moon album, it makes for an excellent, rockin' addition to a great collection. (Oh, nice solo!)
9. Shot In The Dark - ***** - Most outstanding. Don't see how anyone couldn't like this song (if they were into rock, this is). Excellent vocals!
10. Crazy Babies - ***** - The first Ozz track I ever heard. I have it written on a shirt (along with a crosseyed baby)
11. No More Tears (Edit) - **** - This would be a 5 star song if it weren't for the lyrics. Memorable bass line and chorus.
12. Mama, I'm Coming Home - ****99/100 - What? Drums?! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drums can make or break a song, and they just plain ruined (well, except for the sustained bass drum) a majority of the song.
13. I Don't Want To Change The World (Live) - **** - Very cool, Van Halen-sounding song (when it comes to the guitar). A fantastic chorus, also.
14. I Just Want You - **** - Very memorable song that everybody knows. Example of the Ozzman's epic ability. DON'T LIE, YOU KNOW YOU KNOW IT!
15. Back To Earth - **** - Alright, not one of my VERY favorites though.
The best tracks (through my eyes) are:
Crazy Babies
Shot In The Dark
Mama, I'm Coming Home
Crazy Train
Bark At The Moon
No More Tears
Goodbye To Romance
That's basically all the best, though there is no bad track. I agree with whoever said this: Buy the ORIGINAL versoin of this CD, not the REMASTERED one. Shot In The Dark is not included, which is a HUGE mistake!!!!!!!
a pretty good, solid album November 30, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The ozzman cometh Cd is not a bad Greatest hits album except for black sabbath parts. MORE OZZY! Ozzy Where Are thou?
1)Black Sabbath 7/10 Like I said no SABBATH! But the song is somewhat okay
2)War pigs "
3)Goodbye to romance 10/10Finally we're getting somewhere! This song is from Blizzard of ozz, one of Ozzy's biggest and best selling album of his solo career. With Randy RHoads it's hard not to have a great song. This song is about saying goodbye to sabbath, which i'm not saying is bad. I like the synthesizers in the end
4)Crazy Train 10/10 This is a good solid song from ozzy. Obviously its one of his most famous. Nothing really extremly great about it to mention.
5)Mr. Crowley 10/10 This is a good song with synthesizers and it is good but i think that ozzy should have stopped at crazy train when picking the good songs from Blizzard. I love the solo that "went to the skies and back" if you know what i mean. Wait there is 2 solos! It reminds me of halloween when getting the big candies!
6) Over the mountain 9/10 This is a good song but it's the only one from Diary of a madman!! Where is "Flying high again", "Diary of a madman" and others? There is nothing bad about this song but it's the last with Randy Rhoads!!! (Who sadly ,tragicaly died in a freak plane accident.)
7)Paranoid 6/10 How many times ozzy? NO MORE SABBATH!!! Should have went with Suicide solution. Well at least this is Ozzy's version of Paranoid. (different from Sabbath version) It's a good song but just don't want to hear sabbath when we bought Ozzy!
8)Bark at the moon 10/10 This is a very good and solid song. The riff is just mind-blowing. Finally ozzy made a decision where he got the best song from the album and put it on the greatest hits album.
9)Shot in the dark 10/10 This again is a very good song. probably the best from the "Ultimate Sin" album. Nothing special to mention about it.
10)Crazy babies 9/10 This is a good song but just like the Over the mountain incident we have another song that isn't really the best from the original album(No rest for the wicked).
Ozzy really should have picked Miracle man.
11)No more tears 10/10 This is a great song. A very emotional song. This song proves the ozzy can make a great album and great songs even when he is sober! (In case you didn't know the album this song came from "No more tears" was made by ozzy osbourne when he's in his sober stage)
12) Mama i'm coming home 10/10 This is one of the best songs on the album
13)I don't wanna change the world 11/10 Best song on album hands down. This live version is very raw and great. I would buy Live and loud just for this song
14)I just want you 8/10 Its not a bad song but there is nothing special about it. It came from the "Ozzmosis" album which i think isn't that great except for "Perry Mason"
15)Back on earth 8/10 The same as before, this song isn't really special either.
Overall not that many great standout tracks but overall it wasn't that bad. But if Ozzy ever creates a greatist hits album i hope he does delete the sabbath stuff, choose the best song(s) from each album. Thats it, the rest is perfectly fine. The bonus tracks all suck!
(Almost) a complete compilation of ozzy's greates January 10, 2007 Daniel A. Coleman (NAVY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album is the original "Best Of" album by Ozzy Osbourne. It features a few songs by Black Sabbath, and the rest are from his solo carrier. Dont be surprised when you hear different lyrics for "War Pigs", this is the original version about witches that the record company forced the band to change. The remastering definately brings out the bass in the tracks that wasnt as present in the original analog recordings. Great list of tracks, but it could have used "Diary of a Madman" and "Perry Mason". the b-side track also should not have been placed right after "I Just Want You" as the keyboard part sounds very similar.
should have been released sooner. July 6, 2006 Eric Hoard (Nashville,TN,USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am an ozzy and Black Sabbath fan from way back.I bought this disk for one track only and that is Walpurgis. For all you greenies out there this track was done before paranoid was released and the song later became known as war pigs.It was recorded on 4 track 1970 equipment so if you are 15 you might not dig it.The only way to experience all of sabbath and ozzy material is to buy it all.No this album does not have all ozzies good stuff, but it does have some good ones. E-man
