    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com essential recording
Released three months after her murder in 1995, Dreaming of You introduced the Tejano queen to the mainstream pop audience. Four new tunes recorded with producers Keith Thomas and Guy Roche envisioned Selena as a dance-pop diva similar to Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey, but with a Latin twist. Far more arresting are the two classic mariachi numbers and a bilingual duet with David Byrne recorded for the movie Don Juan DeMarco, in which Selena had a bit part. The contrast between her passionate invitation to "come dance with me" and Byrne's nerdy white-guy delivery indicated her wide-open creative potential. The rest of the album consists of remixes of Selena's Latin-pop hits, including a masterful version of "Techno Cumbia" that bring out the hip-hop and reggae flavors in the groove. The tragedy was that such a promising introduction also served as a sad farewell. --Rick Mitchell

5 out of 5 stars Selena: dreaming of you   October 17, 2002
8 out of 9 found this review helpful

Whether it's the upbeat Latino rhythm or the awesome vocals by Selena, this CD is a definite winner. Through the thirteen tracks you will be swept away to a little bit of Mexico by the truly unique mix of Spanish and English. Starting with the Spanish classic, "Amor Prohibido", with the light tempo and the tale of a modern day Romeo and Juliet that is beautiful and heart wrenching. Or the sad sweet romantic tale in English about a young girls first true love, whose story is almost parallel to that of Selena's love life. Although Selena knew very little Spanish, after her first press conference for the CD into the Anglo market, which she achieved with "Dreaming of you". Which is still the only primarily Spanish album to debut as number one on the Billboard Pop Charts. Although Selena was killed by an ex-employee in 1995 she will always be remembered for her incredible vocals and unwavering dreams for this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Dreaming Of You 20 Years Of Music Limited Edition   September 28, 2002

This re-issue of Selena's record breaking #1 Billboard Hit has been completely remastered to give it a sound that goes beyond it's original state. All of her breakthrough English hits such as Dreaming Of You and I Could Fall In Love are here, with her revamped Spanish classics ("Amor Prohibido" and "Como La Flor") and some powerful mariachi offerings: El Toro Relajo and Tu Solo Tu.

It is amazing to think that she was able to bring this Latin masterpiece to #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts. To this day this is the only predominately Spanish album to ever debut @ #1.

In addition, this Special Limited Edition re-issue includes: introduction text not found in the original version, Dreaming Of You Music Video for the computer, and Spoken Liner Notes by her father, sister, brother and other band members. These notes are terrific to listen to with loads of tidbits including A.B. advising Selena at first NOT to record the title track, and Selena and his memorable encounter with Wynona Judd!!...It is definatley worth the re-purchase if you have the original or to purchase for the first time to discover Selena's versatile talent.

    5 out of 5 stars A TESTAMENT TO SELENA'S DREAMS   April 29, 2003

Not many albums completely encompass a singer's full potential or talent, and "Dreaming Of You" is an exception. Selena's final English recordings are a brilliant testament to what might have been, what should have been.

Abraham Quantinilla, as we all know, is a brilliant man (and a brilliant sales-man), and when he put this record together he did so with great care. Along with such Selena classics as "Dreaming of You" and "I Could Fall In Love", he remastered and remixed some of her old tracks to make them more accessible to a new generation. With such firey songs as "Captive Heart" and "Techno Cumbia", he mixes in light hearted love songs such as "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and "Missing My Baby". He covers Selena's entire heart-felt range from sugary love ballads, up-tempo cumbias, the classica, to tearful mariachi's, really showcasing Selena's vocal talent. One of the most striking tracks, "God's Child", is both haunting and melodic as Selena's searing vocals soar next to David Baird's enthusiastic guitar and gritty voice. While the new Spanglish version of "wherever you are" just seems to be clever re-packaging, it feels kind of empty knowing it was re-recorded without the help of Selena.
The vocal promise of this rising young star is completely visible in the record. It is both saddening and uplifting as the best track, the title track, hits the speakers. Although it's probably not intended to be, this is a bittersweet melody that is both light-hearted and tender...and one of Selena's best songs. This album is one of greatness, and should be owned by any true Selena fan.

5 out of 5 stars Sorry To selenas family memeber and to her fans   August 6, 2003

I thought that it was tradgic on what yolanda salvidor did to selena... And if it wasnt for her selena would be on top still to this day... and even though shes dead she still is... She will live on forever in music as people put it... I just couldnt imagine what it would be like to loose a sister, a daughter, and a wife... all do to the fact that she had to be selfish and greddy like she was... And I Think that J.lo jennifer lopez and Selena strike a strong resemlence and they talk and laugh just like one another... its so wierd ...I watch "Selena the movie" on v-h1 on tv whenever its on... Well thats all that i have to say for now... Sorry for your loss i know it must be hard to loose someone... Terra
