Mariah must have been sent from up above to sing to the world because she really does have the voice of an angel. She has the most beautiful, soaringly, powerful, 7 octave voice I've ever heard and this CD is my favorite tied with Emotions. Every song on Music Box is a total masterpiece!!! There is not one song on this CD that I don't love. My favorites are Dreamlover which I can't listen to without singing and dancing, Hero (My all time favorite from Mariah. The song has such power, it's so meaningful and it's gotten me through a lot of hard obstacles in my life, not matter how many times I hear it, it never gets boring! My favorite version of Hero is live from the 1993 performance which can be heard on the Hero CD maxi single), Anytime You Need A Friend (I love the choir that sings in the background and every time I hear it, I feel like I'm in church with the words "If You Just Believe In me, I Will Love You Endlessly" which is what Jesus says in the Gospel!), Never Forget You (another amazing slow ballad and love the way Mariah sings), Without You (one of Mariah's best covers. Harry Nielson remake and Mariah's version is so much better and more beautiful than the original), Now That I know, Just To Hold You Once Again, and a ballad that has actually made me stop breathing for a second while it was playing a couple of times-All I Ever Wanted.
All I Ever Wanted is the most powerful and romantic ballad Mariah has ever done in her whole career!! Her voice soars above anything and everything on this song, on this whole CD!! I am not married and hopefully I will get married one day and the song that I want playing when I have my first slow dance with my husband is All I Ever Wanted. It totally takes my breath away, vocally, musically and lyrically! If you are a romantic, you'll love All I Ever Wanted. I have had this CD since it came out in 1993 and I never have stopped listening to it, along with Emotions. Honestly, Music Box and Emotions are my favorite CD's of all time. Music Box really showcases Mariah's voice and music.
Another song that I absolutely adore is the title track, Music Box. I love it because it actually features a music box and it's another song to showcase Mariah's amazing vocals!!! I also own the import of Music Box which includes THE BEST Mariah B-Side ever!!! The best, most incredible, most breathtaking B-Side ballad Mariah has ever done is called Everything Fades Away!! Everything Fades Away is such an incredible slow ballad and I love everything about this song. The music itself, the lyrics, amd most importantly, Mariah's angelic voice!!! The other B-Side, which also is an incredible slow ballad, that I also own on a Dreamlover single, is equal in every way to Everything Fades Away was only available on Mariah's Dreamlover single called Do You Think Of Me? If you are able to get Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me?, they are so worth it!!! Even Mariah's B-Sides should have made it to number 1!! I also have heard Mariah's Heroe, the Spanish version of Hero and it's amazing as well, before I heard this, I had no idea Mariah knew Spanish. She sounds like she's been speaking the language forever.
Music Box Spawned 2 #1's in the U.S. for Mariah. Dreamlover became Mariah's 7th #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hero was the 8th #1 on Billboard. The song Without You made it to number 1 on th U.K. charts but I feel that it should have made number 1 in the U.S. because it's one of Mariah's best vocal perfomances ever and every time I hear it, I get goosebumps!! I couldn't imagine not listening to this CD! A Must have for Mariah fans!!!
