    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com
Pop history teaches that posthumous releases generally fall into one of two categories. There's the creep-out, with eerie lyrics that appear to foreshadow the artist's demise (see Michael Hutchence's solo disc). And there's the cash-in: the label or management scrapes the barrel to turn a buck. Luckily, Aaliyah's I Care 4 U is neither. Serving as both a greatest hits collection and a summary of stuff she'd been working on before her death in August 2001, the disc is a keen reminder of just how talented the 22-year-old was as a singer and song stylist. Sure, it's easy to have rhythm aplenty when R. Kelly and Timbaland are guiding you, but Aaliyah's silken phrasings are her own, and her ability to unearth tenderness in even the funkiest jam is a testament to her vision of R&B as musical comfort food. Songs from her three studio albums are well represented. Among them are "I Care 4 U" and "More Than a Woman" from Aaliyah; the title track and "Got to Give It Up" from One in a Million; and "Back and Forth" and "At Your Best" from Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. Of course, the universally praiseworthy brand-new tracks--"Come Over," "All I Need," "Miss You," and "Don't Worry"--are the real goods. An accompanying DVD featuring a handful of videos and behind-the-scenes footage makes I Care 4 U crucial for fans. --Kim Hughes

    5 out of 5 stars I am very pleased!!!   December 10, 2002
15 out of 15 found this review helpful

I am extremely satisfied with Aaliyah's posthumous album. First of all, the CD art, color scheme, and booklet are just beautiful. There are a few gliches in the booklet however. For example, it says in the booklet "Rock Da Boat" not "Rock The Boat" for the DVD listing. Also, notable hits are neglected from the audio part of the album such as: "If Your Girl Only Knew," "Hot Like Fire (Remix)," and "Rock The Boat." The quality of the DVD and the wonderful songs more than make up for these minor errors. I love the unreleased tracks on the album, and I am thrilled that they are on there. Now, the DVD is the best feature! It contains more videos and extras than the Aaliyah (Limited Edition Album) from 2001! The DVD contains the hard-to-find "Got To Give It Up (Remix)" video, and a good number of other videos, as well as a wonderful behind the scenes and Japanamation commercial for her last album. I will give you a track-to-track critique of the album. ...P>CRITIQUE OF TRACKS

    1. Back & Forth (feat. R. Kelly & Mr. Lee): Aaliyah's very first single released back in 1994. Excellent old school song from her first album "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number!"

    2. Are You That Somebody (feat. Timbaland & Playa): Aaliyah's single from the "Dr. Dolittle" Soundtrack is one of her most popular songs.

    3. One In A Million (feat. Missy Elliott): This classic song is the second single from Aaliyah's sophomore album "One In A Million."

    4. I Care 4 U: The last single released from Aaliyah's third album "Aaliyah." This beautiful and moving song was released after her unfortunate death in August 2001. An interesting note about this song is that it was recorded back in 1996, but could not be put on "One In A Million."

    5. More Than A Woman: This edgy song is the third single from "Aaliyah."

    6. Don't Know What To Tell Ya: This is one of the unreleased songs on "I Care 4 U." It is a great song!! It has great beats and lyrics, and is a typical song of Aaliyah.

    7. Try Again: Everyone knows this song!! This song is from the "Romeo Must Die" soundtrack and went to number one just on airplay alone.

    8. All I Need: Another unreleased track, but I am not feeling this song too much. It is a little boring.

    9. Miss You: This beautiful song is the first single from "I Care 4 U." The video for this song features many artists paying tribute to Aaliyah.

    10. Don't Worry: A good unreleased track with great vocals and good beats.

    11. Come Over (feat. Tank): A very good unreleased track featuring Tank! I'm not a big fan of Tank, but he sings in the chorus and ad-libs towards the end. Aaliyah sings great on this song!

    12. Erica Kane: A very catchy unreleased track with good vocals and good beats, though some may find it annoying.

    13. At Your Best (You Are Love): Aaliyah's classic remake of the Isley brothers' hit. This extremely beautiful song is the third single from "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number."

    14. Got To Give It Up (Remix): This remix of the third single from "One In A Million" is the version on the "Got To Give It Up" video featured on "I Care 4 U." It is somewhat catchy and weird, but I like it!

5 out of 5 stars An Album All AALIYAH Fans Should have.   December 10, 2002
14 out of 16 found this review helpful

This is an album that includes some of Aaliyah songs from Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, One In A Million and Aaliyah. Also included is some previously unreleased track done by her before her death.

My favs song on the album includes Don't Know What To Tell Ya, All I Need, Miss You & Don't Worry. Come Over and Erica Kane is average. Some of my old favs are Back and Forth, Are You That Somebody, One In A Million, I Care 4 U, More Than A Woman, Try Again & At Your Best. Also included is a remix of Got To Give It Up. The Remix of Got To Give It Up is kinda betta than the original version featuring Slick Rick.

As you can see, almost all the songs on I Care 4 U are great. This is definitely the last album that we hear from Aaliyah. Aaliyah is gone forever and she will be remembered forever by her fans. If you are not a fans of her, I recommend you all of her past album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number", "One In A Million" and the last original album by her "AALIYAH". We Care 4 U... AALIYAH, RIP.

4 out of 5 stars The new songs are honestly not that great..   December 10, 2002
13 out of 20 found this review helpful

I understand why some of the new songs are PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED. They aren't the best but they aren't terrible. The reason I really rated this album as a 4-star album was because of the greatest hits section in the beginning. While I was dissappointed that some of her biggest hits didn't make the cut but I was happy with what they picked. But since we have all heard those I will just tell you about the new songs.
Miss You 7/10 - The lead single off the new album. It is kind of a weak song at first but it tells a good story and it REALLY sticks after a while. Overall it is a pretty good song.
All I Need 5/10 - All I Need is a soft but mid-tempo song. The chorus isn't very creative but the song as a whole isn't too bad.
Come Over 7/10 - A slow song originally sang by the R&B duo Changing Faces. It grows on you as its not that good at first but after listening to it for a few times it is tight. It would be a good single.
Don't Know What To Tell Ya 9/10 - I have absolutely NO idea why this song didn't make her last album. Produced by Timbaland, it is very catchy at first listen and the only thing that is really wrong about it is the end is VERY long for some reason. The beat goes on for about a minute after she is done singing and that just doesn't fit with songs like this. I think it would make an incredible second single.
Don't Worry 6/10 - The beat is the problem with this one. It's produced by Jazze Pha. The song doesn't go along with the beat so much but it's alright.
Erica Kane 7/10 - This is a song with a message. It has one of those walking down the street in the city beats to it. The meaning is kind of subliminal. It is really about the dangers of cocaine but it is renamed "Erica Kane" to make it seem as though it's a woman Aaliyah is talking about. I don't think it would do good as a single because of the chorus, but the song is very good.
Got To Give It Up (The New Remix) 7/10 - This new remix is MUCH better than the original, which I absolutely hated. The beat goes with the song ALOT better than the original from her "One in A Million" album. Very hot.

Overall the album is pretty good but the old songs are a bit of a disappointment. I still recommend buying this album however. It also comes with a bonus DVD which most retailers aren't charging any extra for. The DVD has a few of her best music videos and behind the scenes footage of Aaliyah in different places. This is a very good album but I am expecting a whole album with ALL new songs next time and I am hoping for them to be a little better.

3 out of 5 stars Where are the missing hits?   December 16, 2002
13 out of 17 found this review helpful

Overall, I thought this was a nice CD. However, I am a bit mystified over some of Aaliyah's hits that were omitted, but I thought should have appeared to make it a true greatest hits CD:

    1) We Need a Resolution
    2) If Your Girl Only Knew
    3) Rock Da Boat
    4) The One I Gave My Heart To
    5) Four Page Letter

Fortunately, music videos for three of the above are on the DVD, along with:

    1) One In A Million
    2) Are You That Somebody?
    3) Try Again
    4) We Need A Resolution
    5) More Than A Woman
    6) Back in One Piece (feat. DMX)
    7) Four Page Letter
    8) Got To Give It Up (remix)
    9) Rock Da Boat
    10) Japanamation Commericial
    11) Aaliyah Behind The Scenes

But where does "If Your Girl Only Knew" appear on here?! That was my favorite Aaliyah song. The unreleased songs are all right, although I really would have preferred that "All I Need", "Don't Worry", "Come Over", "Erica Kane", and "Don't Know What to Tell Ya" have been replaced with the missing hits I've listed above.
