5 out of 5 stars Polish Femme Metal   April 19, 2007

You may not believe this, but Poland is a hotbed of, not good, but great female fronted Goth-metal bands. Yes folks they have foresaken the polka and adopted the Gothic-metal genre. Sometimes symphonic and sometimes progressive but usually up tempo, hard hitting and always very listenable.

Delight is one of these prodigious bands, featuring the heavenly vocals of Paulina Maslanka and five other very capable musicians.

This is their third studio album and maybe their most consistent. The first song "The Hand" could easily pass for heavy metal as the guitars are some of the strongest I've ever heard in a song. Good song. The second song "Stained Glass" has a slightly faster, though not fast, tempo and also contains heavy guitar work and some violin work. The third song "Requiem" seems to convey the same melody as "stained Glass" but at about half it's tempo. Still heavy guitars and some keyboard work. Good song. Song four "Spring Day" is a dynamic song starting out with singing strings and an irregular drumbeat before settling down to a pleasant catchey melody with violins and keyboards reappearing in the middle. BEST SONG. Song five, Whale's Song is a change of pace, being more of an easy going ballad. Song six, "I Promise" is the fastest song on the album featuring heavy crunchey guitars. Song seven, "The Sun" is another ballad with piano accompaniment, a little ethereal. Good song. Song eight, "Outhereness" starts out slowly, then builds up the tempo like I've heard Creed do and the heavy guitars are back. Good song. Song nine "Wieczny Final" is a slow tempo, almost a ballad but a little strong for a ballad and again picking up speed, great melody, sung with Polish Lyrics. Good song.

If your wondering if Delight sounds like any bands you may be familiar with, the answer is, yes and no. They sound a lot like Artrosis, Desdemona, Moonlight and a little like Closterkeller.
Who are they you wonder? They are some of the sister polish bands I mentioned, and most likely, you have not heard them either. But fear not, the closest non polish band is German Gothique band, The Dreamside. No help, how about Lacuna Coil? If that's no help you're on your own.

You probably noticed that Delight is fairly prolific having realeased their first three albums within three years. I must say that their first two album covers were rather sensational. The artwork, though very good, can be described as somewhere between erotic and pornographic. I hope Paulina didn't pose for these covers. Anyway, I'm sorry to say they sure toned down the cover artwork on this album.

    5 out of 5 stars Whale's Lungs-I'm living my life   January 16, 2009

Once again, Paulina Maslanka gives a very emotional vocal performance!
Eternity is a little heavier of an album than Breaking Ground.

On the other hand, the atmospheric beauty of songs such as "Juliet" is still present with songs like "Whales Lungs" and "Requiem". Each track is excellent.

This is a five star album-

2 out of 5 stars Uninspired and not really worth your time   May 30, 2005

Hard as I try, I don't find myself liking this album. Nothing is terrible about it but nothing is great either. Just more cliched, run-of-the-mill fem-fronted goth rock devoid of any innovation or originality. Rheas Obsession, Alas, Leaves Eyes, Arise From Thorns, Brave, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Dreams Of Sanity, Autumns Grey Solace, Beseech and Antimatter are all bands that do this so much better. Delight is proof that unknown doesn't necassarily equal good. Many bands, even mainstream ones, offer more for your cash than this album.
