The "First Time" I was disappointed with a Chan Album... December 9, 2003 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Well let me start out by saying, Chan's music isn't for everyone. But I've been a fan since I was just a little boy. My Mom used to play old Chan 45's for my brothers and I when we were just kids. However, "First time" wasn't anything close to the opus 'Dragon Heart" was... Regardless, there are still a few hidden gems on this record that are definately worth checkin out... Such as "Japanese" , "Japanese" and the quirky, Beatles like A la Yellow Submarine : japanese...which is definately the best song on this album.
1.Japanese: ?/10 Just an intro? Or is there something else going on here? It's for you to decide..
2.Japanese: 8/10 Definately not for beginners, but you'll understand Chans message the more you listen...
3. Japanese: 3/10 Oh Jackie...what were you thinkin' with this one? Please...
4.Japanese: 11/10 OH JACKIE!! OH JACKIE!! OH JACKIE!!
5. Japanese: 10/10 If you liked Japanese, you'll LOVE japanese!!
6. Japanese: ?/10 This one's definately just filler here...Just a bunch of sound effects and keyboards, I think they might have used a Moog???
7. Japanese: 6/10 Not the best song on the album, but still not the worst...
8. Japanese: 9/10 This is the original version of "Japanese" from the album "Dragon Heart". I give it a 9 instead of a ten because it's pretty similar.
9. Japanese: 5/10 Half the points for half a song...production ruined this one...
10. Japanese: 10/10 A beautiful end to a not so beautiful album.
Even though this album isn't his best, it's still a must for any "Chan Fan".
10 songs of "Japanese" and he ain't slowing down... December 15, 2005 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Funny thing, Jackie Chan ain't Japanese either. Go figure that. But he does that song, ten different times, ten different ways like blazing lions stomp on cowardice giraffe. Very good for all and super terrific happy fun time make for good show. Yeah. Go fun right now Mister Sparkle.
Very Romantic August 25, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
"First Time" is aptly named. This 1992 release was Jackie's first Mandarin album and first with a Taiwanese record company instead of a Japanese one. This is also the first time his style has changed to become softer and very romantic. The song "So Transparent is My Heart (Ming ming bai bai so de xin)" was his biggest hit in Asia it is still very popular.
The songs are: 1. My Feeling - Soft and Romantic 2. I wished The flower Could Never Fade - Romantic song 3. The Reddish Face - 4. Keep Your Company Through Every Moment 5. So Transparent is My Heart - Worth the price of the album itself 6. A Vigorous Aspiration in My Mind 7. The Betel Nuts Beauty - enjoyable but not too romantic 8. You are a Lover in My Dreams 9. Everyday in My Life 10. The End - Jackie talks in this track. It isn't a song.
This album is definately worth your consideration and would be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection especially for Jackie Chan's fans.

Jackie Chan's voice is almost as good as his athletic ability, which is saying a lot. This is a timeless CD with Jackie singing a variety of songs in either Mandarin (mostly) or Cantonese (his "home" language). Some songs, mostly pop in genre, are gentle and rich, others are dynamic and filled with energy and purpose. I have absoutely no idea what the words mean (even though I can understand and speak some elementary Cantonese), but it matters not one bit. The CD is a perennial delight. I've had it for 4 years and still never tire of listening to it. Enjoy!
