Amazon.com It's nothing short of amazing that it's taken George Strait 22 years, 29 albums, countless awards, and a few dozen No. 1 singles to record a live album. This concert, recorded at Houston's legendary Astrodome in 2002, finally fills that void. A straightforward set of hits from across two decades, For the Last Time covers the ones one might expect: early-1980s hits like "The Fireman" and "Amarillo by Morning" through 21st-century cuts such as "Run" (a bit less ponderous here than the studio version) and "She'll Leave You with a Smile." Though he's occasionally downplayed "Murder on Music Row," his controversial, radio-unfriendly duet with Alan Jackson protesting Nashville's paving over country traditions, he sings it here with no apologies. His presence is so consistent throughout that it might have been nice to include a few more deviations from the hits, like the sparkling version of Bob Wills's "Take Me Back to Tulsa" that showcases members of his outstanding Ace in the Hole band. The quality of his studio work notwithstanding, the stage remains Strait's true milieu. --Rich Kienzle

live from the astrodome is awesome July 31, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
George Strait is amazing as usual in this live from the astrodome cd. This is classic George! All George fans will love this one for sure. He is such a talented country artist. You always know what you can expect from George, and he always delivers. I can't say that about many of todays artists. George has been consistant through out his career and I've never been disappointed with any of his albums. I really enjoyed this "LIVE" version. It's the next best thing to actually being at one of his concerts! Buy this one you won't be sorry!

Years ago George Strait was brought in as a last minute replacement for the Houston Livestock Show.He has year in and year out been the top selling act for the rodeo. He took a one year vacation from the Houston Rodeo. His return to Houston was a masterpiece.I am certainly glad it was recorded live.At his return concert ha sang some George Strait classics. This CD has George singing "I Can Still Make Cheyenne","Amarillo By Morning", as well as"Write This Down".This turned out to be an outstanding concert enjoyed by all.Buy tis CD. I love this cd I heard it first on a PBS special. I then got the cd and became a george strait fan (a big fan) I listened to "amarillo by morning" around 50 times as soon as i got the cd. I purchased "strait out of the box" since then (love it too) the songs are wonderful I really like the genuine feel of his songs and the energy of the music. What more could you ask for... February 13, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been to see George in concert 6 times and this cd brings all the excitement and fun that his concerts do. The songs included that he only sings in concert like Take Me Back To Tulsa are done very well and I can only hope that one day he'll put out an album of just western swing. I would highly reccomend the new live album by George Strait.
George Strait Live, and in Texas...as good as it gets! February 13, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What an album! George Strait is at his best as he sings for the last time in the Houston Astrodome. This cd has a great mix of old and new. Two selections, "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and "Take Me Back to Tulsa," can only be found live in concert or on this CD. The old Bob Wills tune, "Take Me Back to Tulsa," suites George Strait as well as a cowboy hat. He is Mr. Modern Day Western Swing. Former President George Bush gives George (Strait) and award during the concert and captured on the album. "Amarillo By Morning," "Heartland" and "The Fireman" are just a few of the songs George takes to another level when performed live. Like a typical George concert, the cd begins with "Deep in the Heart of Texas," and ends with "The Cowboy Rides Away." Also, George packs 16 songs on this cd. This is a must have for George Strait fans, and country music fans in general. Just one more reason George Strait is Mr. Country Music.
