5 out of 5 stars The perfect synthesis of melody and brutality   May 8, 2007
This is my favorite album of all time. My favorite type of death metal is that which combines melody with brutality. Temple of Knowledge does this better than anything I've ever heard. One thing that makes this album so special are the song structures. The songs just seem to flow flawlessly from riff to riff. There's not one riff on the whole album that seems pointless or out of place. Every piece to every song makes perfect sense. The riffs are very melodic and memorable. The drumming is tight and speedy with enough blast beats to satisfy any death head. The drumming is creative enough that even though he's constantly blasting, it never sounds bland or boring. Then there are the vocals. WOW!!! This is the best vocal performance I have ever heard on a death metal album. Sylvain Houde shows a good range of low growls and high pitched shrieks. What really makes the vocals stand out are the patterns and phrasing. They are totally unique. Sylvain sings in a pattern different from the rest of the music, but it still works. Also, the lyrics on this album are very unique and creative. This album is a masterpiece. I recommend it to any fan of extreme music.

3 out of 5 stars Very good music but what the hell!   September 3, 2007

I love Kataklysm's music, but what the hell is with the lead singer!? He dosen't know how to keep a beat. Maurizio is soooo much better. And don't diss on my review if you disagree, I have a right to my opinion.
