The perfect AC/DC album for non-AC/DC fans June 7, 2001 Ulysses Lateiner (Somerville, MA United States) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I'll start this out by saying that if you are a serious AC/DC fan, or own more than one of their albums already, you really don't need this album... it doesn't contain any rarities, and most of the songs sound almost exactly like the studio versions (with the obvious exception of the crowd noise). Plus if you're a fan, you've probably seen the band live in concert already! Therefore, you're not really adding much to your collection (or your AC/DC experience) by buying this. However, if you're like me and like AC/DC's classic hits, but don't really consider yourself enough of a fan to buy their regular albums, this is a gift from heaven! Wrapped up into one album, we have almost all of AC/DC's radio hits... the only notably absent songs, in my opinion, are Shot Down in Flames, and Big Balls (which is sort of a joke anyway). But you can't blame them for not including EVERYTHING, the album is over 70 minutes long already! But it gets better; not only is it full of classic tunes, the songs are performed quite faithfully, with the additional energy of the crowd and the band feeding into the experience without detracting from the music itself. It's good enough already, but compared to many other live albums, such as Nirvana's From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah, where the performances are low quality and the din of the crowd is deafening, this is no less than a masterpiece. Two of the songs, Heatseeker and The Jack, might not be immediately familiar to weekend AC/DC fans, but they're so catchy that after a few listens, you'll love them just as much as the old favorites like Thunderstruck, Moneytalks, and You Shook Me All Night Long. My only gripe about this album is that there's a bit too much of a delay between songs, but that's hardly significant in the face of its strengths: a non-stop chain of beloved rock classics, faithfully performed with energy and excitement by the band, with just the right amount of crowd noise mixed in. For anyone who likes AC/DC's singles, but is hesitant to buy an AC/DC studio album just for the one or two well-known songs it contains... well, this is everything you could ask for! Buy it!
AC/DC - 'Live' (Atlantic) February 7, 2005 Mike Reed (USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Wasn't there like two(2)different versions of this live album put out?Yes,'Live' was a long-awaited release and the only reason I give it a four star rating instead of five is the fact that there is a gap of silence between each and every song. Why don't record companies just make a/any live recording sound as if it came from JUST one show?I love it when a live CD has that going for it.Total of fourteen tunes that were recorded from the band's 'Razer's Edge' world tour 1990-91.Tracks that I enjoyed reliving again and again were their memorable opener "Thunderstruck","Back In Black","Shoot To Thrill","Whole Lotta Rosie"(one of my personal all time favorites),"You Shook Me All Night Long","TNT" and their traditional encore number "For Those About To Rock".One reason that I may not be going ga-ga over this CD is that I've recently located an import(bootleg, maybe?)of a 2-CD titled 'Berlin,2003' and that thing totally rips!!
AC/DC As Loud As Can Be October 12, 2001 I've Gotta (Brookshire, Texas United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This was the first live album I ever owned, and it has made it nearly impossible for me to listen to studio tracks of anything. Because of ACDC live, I judge a band on live performance above all. Just about anyone can sound good in the studio, but it's a lot harder to sound this good live. I really recommend this to anyone, even just casual ADCD listener. You'll know all the songs, and you'll get caught up in the excitement of the crowd and the band.
My first live album and still one of the best March 21, 2003 CRV (New York City) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this album 11 yrs ago and I still get that exhilerating jolt of energy whenever I listen to it. This was the first AC/DC album I bought and I was pursuaded to do that because I caught This albums Highway to Hell video playing on MTV and it impressed me enough to go ahead and buy the CD. I really had minimal expectations for all other tracks in this CD but, damn as soon as I listened to the opening track of Thunderstruck A jolt of energy and enlightenment to Rock suddenly streamed through me and I was hooked for life. Every song on here is top notch including Money Talks with the catchy melodic guitar riffs and the great hook on the vocals, TNT with the crowed rythemically chanting "Oye", Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap, She's got The Jack, and all the old favorites such as Back in Black, You shook me all night long, and you know all the rest. I didnt listen to AC/DC when Bonn Scott fronted the band but, I have heard the recordings of that version of AC/DC and my conclusion is that Brian Johnson is the best thing that could have ever happened to this band. I'm not taking anything away from Bonn Scott's creativity and presense because most of their great songs came from that era however, it seems that Brians vocals lifts this band a notch higher. Brian infuses an incredible amount of energy and soul into all AC/DC songs making it Mesh much better into Angus's powerfull riffs then with what Bonn did. it just seems the current AC/DC has reached thier potential for making outstanding energy filled Rock Music. I happened to catch their performances of Highway to Hell and She shook me all night long during their rock and roll hall of fame induction ceremony and these guys can still rock as good if not better then any band out their.
Buy It!! February 24, 2006 R. J. Bebow (Michigan) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great hard-rock CD. Who cares about the cheering? Angus really kicks it on this. Even if you are a middle-aged, bald guy like me, buy it, stick it in your car CD player, open the windows, and CRANK IT!!! Worth every penney (dollar).
