The Truth About This Single Being "Enchanced" December 27, 2003 Nicole K. (Western Canada) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Love the songs, love the remixes but word of warning - the "enhanced" portion of the single is simple a link to join Madonna's official mailing list. This appears when you put the cd in a computer. Whoop-de-doo.
I live the American Dream...... April 17, 2003 Dance Music Lover (Reading, PA United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The first single from Madonna's upcoming American Life album may be causing controversy due to the state of the world right now, however, the song is yet another example of how Madonna continues to evolve and grow as an artist. It is no wonder she has continued to remain one of the most influential and popular musicians over the past 20 years. American Life may take a few listens to digest, not as commercially friendly as "Music" or "Frozen", but once it takes hold of you it sucks you in. It is equal parts electronic and acoustic. Madonna again works with Mirwais who co-wrote and produced most of 2000's Music album. This time the lead single is more influenced by 80's synth sounds. The song has a thumping electric bass line that sounds like a heavier version of early 80's dance and also sounds influenced by the new style in dance music called "electro-clash." Madonna's lyrics are very honest and autobiographical as she speaks from her own experiences how money and fame are not enough to make her happy. Her voice, although at times altered, sounds very strong on this track especially during the chorus when she is singing backed by only the acoustic guitar. In my opinion, this song is vocally and lyrically better than her 2000 hit single "Music". As a bonus there is an extended remix of her 2002 hit single "Die Another Day" by Victor Calderone and Mac Quayle that is better than the mixes that originally appeared on the maxi-single. If you are a Madonna fan or a fan of dance/electronic music, this single is a good choice.
Madonna's back April 9, 2003 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Madonna's back with another controversial video and I hope that unlike the past it does not eclipse the song or its message. This track is a blending of electronica and hip-hop and imparts a message about Madonna's realization regarding American values and pursuits. Who better to critique American life than one of the greatest living icon's of American pop culture. After a 20 year career playing with image and amassing fame and wealth beyond most American's dreams, Madonna is offering her insight into where true happiness comes from - or more to the point - where it does not come from. I highly recommend this single. It also features the Day Another Day James Bond Theme Song - which was a big hit in 2002.
Get Remixes CD & This One September 1, 2005 Lee Qi (China) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not gonna talk about this song,if you're a huge fan of madonna's just like me,then just buy this single. As far as I know,AMERICAN LIFE(single) is released 4 versions(more?),the other 3 are: REMIXES CD:included 5 remixes+1 remix of DIE ANOTHER DAY,but no Radio Edit PART 1:Radio Edit+2 remixes(Missy Elliott+Peter Rauhofer's American Anthem Part1) PART 2(Blue):Radio Edit+2 remixes(Oakenfold Downtempo remix+Felix Da Housecat's Devin Dazzle Club mix) And you can find the 4 reimxes in PART 1 & PART 2 also available on the REMIXES CD. So the best way to own complete AMERICAN LIFE collection is get the REMIXES CD 'n this one, then you would get all the remixes and also the radio edit(though it's just little different from the album version),and plus a exclusive Remix of DIE ANOTHER DAY which you can't find on any other CDs. Don't waste money on the other two 3-trk-singles,thought there are just 2 tracks on this single, it's worth.
How Can You Say No? August 6, 2003 James (Toronto) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's such a small price for something so big. A Madonna collectable that may be hard to come by in the next few years. It contains the "edited" version of "American life" without the swearing which is a relief considering i have to change over to the next song every time i listen to the origional on the album. The it contains a "remix" of "Die Another Day" which to the best of my knowledge cannot be found on any other Madonna remix album. Don't just sit there and stare at the price, order it now and listen to it, enjoy it, and make it outsell any of her other singles considering it is doing rather horribly for a Madonna single.
