Amazon.com Are Britney and Christina over-the-hill? It's a question the effervescent talents of 15-year-old Lizzie McGuire star/teeny-pop Hilary Duff fairly begs. While the plot of this big-screen adaptation of Duff's popular Disney TV series (Lizzie and pals take a class trip to Italy; she's mistaken for a Neopolitan pop star; comic complications ensue) hearkens back to the days of Frankie and Annette--or was it Mickey and Judy?--its soundtrack is a downright sunny tribute to the power of contemporary teen pop. Anchored by Duff's performances of the bright, ear-candy single, "Why Not," and her balladeer turn as the film's faux Italian pop princess, "What Dreams Are Made Of" (each in two versions), it's a score whose bubbly energy resonates through its covers--Atomic Kittens' take on the reggae/Blondie chestnut "The Tide Is High"; Vitamin C's peppy version of the kitsch classic "Volare"; Jump 5's faithful reading of EW&F's "Shining Star"--and originals like Cooler Kids' infectious "All Around the World" and Beu Sister's "You Make Me Feel Like a Star" alike. --Jerry McCulley

Along with my review I have a message for the Hil haters... June 5, 2003 11 out of 26 found this review helpful
Ok first off let me say this CD is very good.I had to go get this CD when I heard "Why Not" by Hilary Duff.''Why Not" is the best song on the CD the only song I really don't like is the one by Dean Martin I forgot what is was called. BUT,ANYWAYZ THIS MESSAGE IS TO THE HILARY HATERS:Why do you guys bash Hilary so much she hasn't done anything to you .The Hilary haters say she can't act she can if you saw ''Cadet Kelly" on the Disney Channel that movie was so good .It really showed that Hilary had a dramatic side as well as comedy side.If you watch ''Lizzie McGuire" and you saw the one where Matt&Lizzie swicthed bodies Hilary really did a masterpiece job of playing Matt. Also the one where Lizzie can't decide what's to be when she grows up she played the woman at the drive-thur window good. Also she can sing the song''Why Not" made the TRL countdown peaking at #5 and the last " Lizzie" soundtrack went gold so that shows you people went and got it.One last thing the Hilary hater's say she is fat .If she was skinny you would be talking about her the same why.She is not fat.She is very hot. Some of ya need to look in the mirror.Look at yourselves then jude others nobody's perfect. I HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE OH YEAH SHE CAN ACT BETTER THEN TWO LITTLE TWINS cough-Mary-Kate and Ashely-cough.I know somebody is going to say something about this review but I DON'T CARE do you think Hil cares about what you the haters say.No.Think about it. -PeAcE i'M oUt- P.S. I WENT TO ONE OF THE HIL WEBSIBES AND IT SAID THIS CD WENT PLANTIUM.
An Okay Soundtrack . . . October 4, 2005 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
This ISN'T Joseph. (My dad HATES this movie AND the soundtrack).
Anyway, I like this CD. I'm going to rate each song:
1. Why Not: 10/10. Good song. Nice rock rhythm.
2. The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling): 7/10. Okay song. Definitely not worth repeating.
3. All Around The World: 100/10! Favorite song on the CD. Cool beat and it just rocks! Definitely worth repeating again and again.
4. What Dreams Are Made Of (Ballad Version): 10/10. Pretty song.
5. Shining Star: 6/10. Don't really like Jump 5.
6. Volare: 100/10! This song rocks too. Vitamin C did a good job with this one.
7. Open Your Eyes (To Love): 4/10. Skip this one.
8. You Make Me Feel Like A Star (Lizzie Mix): 6/10. Not worth repeating.
9. Supermodel: 8/10. Cool fluff song.
10. What Dreams Are Made Of: 100/10! Love it. Cool beat. Good job Hilary! (or should i say "Lizzie")
11. On An Evening In Roma: 10/10. Gotta love it.
12. Girl In The Band: 1/10. Skip it. Enough said.
13. Orchestral Suite From The Lizzie McGuire Movie (Score): 100/10! Good score. Creates a feeling of excitement. However, I;d skip it if you aren't an Original Score type of person.
14. Why Not (McMix): 7/10. Okay song.
Like I said, this is an OKAY soundtrack. However, songs 3, 6 and 10 are a highlight.
Dazzling, killer smile April 28, 2003 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I compare my current fascination with Lizzie to people's fascination with the pop version of 50 Cent - like the underground 50, Lizzie's been around for awhile but it's only recently that I noticed her. Well for starters, she's almost 16 now, but that's beside the point. I saw the movie trailer for the movie, and immediately decided to see it, and purchased the disc. Wow, Lizzie/Hilary looks so cute in that movie, and what a smile! Now I ain't gonna be like my boy JD, who calls all blonde girls "Lizzie McGuire" but I gotta say that this CD is great, especially Hilary's songs. Their catchy and poppy. The other songs are kind of wack, especially the no name artists. I guess Hilary's sis Haylie can sing too, that song is another one of them "pop classics" I guess. I recommend that y'all see this movie and purchase the disc.
what to say? May 21, 2003 8 out of 18 found this review helpful
i work as a nanny and let my charges pick the car music when we drive around. the 11 and 9 year-old girls i babysit for bought this cd and even they hate it...an unoriginal and overproduced collection of artists singing unoriginal and overproduced songs. hilary duff has perhaps the worst voice of anyone in the music industry. spare yourselves and buy some real music.
