5 out of 5 stars Much better than I expected (or how these reviews reflect)   July 28, 2003

While I moderately enjoyed "Inches from Mainline", it really was far too nu-metal sounding for my tastes. My expectations for "Metafour" therefore weren't that high. However, after hearing the track "Go" and sucumbing to boredom one day, I decided to give this CD a chance. I really wasn't expecting "Metafour" to be as good as it turned out to be, and its one of the biggest musical surprises of the year for me (beside how surprisingly-awful "St. Anger" is). Granted, the band's sound is not as heavy, but looking beyond that, one can tell that they are much more rounded and better with the sound that they have on this CD. There are still heavy songs here ("Caffiene Love Affair" being the best of the heavier tunes), but the top songs are the ones that are more restrained. "Glass Friend", a song about alcoholism, is the best on the CD. Another excellent track is the single "So Clear", which borders on being a power ballad.

I have read reviews below that call this CD "too cliche" in reference to the sound on this CD compared to "Inches...". Apparently not understanding the meaning of the word "cliche", this individual did not realize the "Inches..." was the absolute, pure, be-all-end-all prototypical example of a nu-metal CD. Besides, SinisterFiemd gave Metallica's newest CD 5 stars -- nuff said.

    2 out of 5 stars Weak   August 28, 2004

With the exception of his columbian hitman this album was rather boring. The ripping off of quotes from the Alcoholic Anonymous Big Book were at first a refreshing blast from what modern music has become, (Namely rap) but this excitement was short lived upon finding out that the artists sport a link to Jagermeister's website on their own. Hrmm.. I think they are trying to catch a seemingly fading market of tattooed still rocking straightXedges. Or maybe, being a hypocrite is acceptable north of the border. Ok.. I must make amends for that last statement. Hehhe...

5 out of 5 stars Metafour Rocks   June 10, 2003

WOW! This album is leaps and bounds above "Inches From the Mainline" The bad has really matured since the last album and has come out with one of the best rock albums ever. This album soars all the way through, but stand out tracks are:
    Go
    So Clear
    Columbian Ascot
    Casualty of Me
    Glass Friend
    The Plan
If you are into rock music, do yourself a favor and pick this album up. It is one NOT to be missed

5 out of 5 stars An extremely solid rock album   June 11, 2003

For those who have been listening to Slaves on Dope before "Inches from the Mainline" you know that Slaves have progressed overtime. With "Metafour" Slaves have taken another step forward in evloving into a better band. They have been sucessful of never releasing the same album twice. With that being said "Metafour" is one of the best ROCK albums I have ever heard. From the hard hitting opener "GO" till the very end of "Nothing" the album has you glued to your speakers. While the album is not as relentlessly heavy as "Inches from the Mainline", "Metafour" does feature some really heavy tunes and quite possibly the heaviest song they have ever done with "Columbian Ascot" - the end breakdown is absolutly brutal. "Metafour" also shows the bands diversity as artists with amazing use of melodies. While other "nu-metal" bands have attempted to infuse melody into there music Slaves on Dope suceed 100% and have come up with such dynamic tracks as "So Clear" "Casualty of Me" "Only Hero" and one of the most amazing rock track i have heard "Glass Friend" Jasons vocals soar on that track. The rest of the band lays down music that is simply amazing. From Franks intricate bass work to Robs killer drum fiils and beats to Kevin playing some of the best riffs to appear on an album. If you were a fan before, trust me you will not be dissapointed give it a listen or two. And if you don't know who they are yet...... you will soon.

4 out of 5 stars Is the sophmore album really doomed?   June 21, 2003

Anyone who knows Slaves on Dope from their last cd knows that they are a very promising band. Also, most people know that this is supposed to be their doomed sophmore album. Interestgly enough, this cd sounds more mature than their last one. In an age where bands like Metallica are moving to a more fast-paced in your face sound, Slaves on Dope seem to have gone and found their melodic side. Don't get me wrong, this CD still has it's moshing inducing anthems like Go, but it also has deeper, more thought inducing songs, like Casualty of me, or Glass Friend. There is enjoyment to this CD weather you are brand new to Slaves on Dope, or a long time fan. I was definatly geniuenly impressed by this CD, and I think anyone who likes metal or softer rock will like it too.
