    Editorial Reviews:

Every good pop collection has that one moment, that shimmering, seamless mix of voice, rhythm and melody, that reflects--and often transcends--the colors and styles of the entire package. On 9, the first studio album in three years from Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti, it's "No Te Prometo Nada" ("I Don't Promise You Anything"), a bittersweet ballad that finds the singer exposing his flawed heart to his lover. This is a hushed, affecting moment. Much of the rest of 9 finds Ramazzotti in pleasantly familiar territory, his nasal delivery distinguishing pop ditties such as "Un Segundo De Paz" and "Piedra Pequena." Some of the silky production sheen of past efforts has been traded in for more acoustic instrumentation; coupled with Ramazzotti's heartfelt interpretations, the result is a more intimate feel. Make no mistake, though: Ramazzotti is a pop singer by definition. And when it's done this expertly, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. --Joey Guerra

4 out of 5 stars Eros finally gets my attention.   February 19, 2004

    I have 4 Ero albums.
    I don't listen to them.
I never really like them at all, even though I have tried and tried to get into his music.
A friend of mine, back from Europe, brought me this album and upon glancing at it, I said to myself "Holy crap, not this guy"
Smiling sweetly, I thanked him and asked him "where's the rest of my presents ya cheap bugger".
After a while I did get to listen to it and now its constantly on my cd player. Its so good. Its so good. (worth repeating!!)

Maybe its the production, but his voice, unique that it is, is very clear and strong. The musicians are superb, true craftsmen/women. And together they have made a superb album. I've listen to it over and over and over. Now I'm brave enough to go back and revisit his other albums I have. But not yet, I'm not through with this one. Strongly recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars nothing short of brilliant (as usual...)   July 9, 2003

for people new to Eros, maybe you should try one of his compilations first like "Eros in concert", "Eros" or "Eros live". they will give you a better idea of what this guy is all about. this new cd ("nove") is his darkest work so far and even thought he always sings from the heart and not from the i-guess-this-is-what's-selling-so-i'll-go-with-this (Jewel style), his style is much more romantic usually than what you'll find here.

having said that, if you're not going to buy a sissy greatest hits cd, if you want to go all the way, then i'll tell you that Eros discography has been through stages like his live and ours. first, ("agitated hearts", "new heroes" and "music is" belong to this category-i know, translations [stink]). then the with "in certain moments" and "in every sense" (a really cool cd, every song has the phrase "in ogni senso" worked into it-it sounds nuts but it works). to be followed by with "all stories", "where there's music" and "freestyle". and then, well, then there's "nine"

i listened to this cd and thought: what hapened to him? not that it is bad, it's that it is SAD! so i checked for info on the net and sure enough... in the time between his previous work (the beautiful "stilelibero") and "nove" the guy lost his mom, had a divorce and barely sees his daughter anymore. no wonder...

i'd describe "nove" with 2 words: tough love. yes, there's the hymn of all of the overworked and stressed out: "un attimo di pace", one of the best in the cd. you put this on your car cd changer and you are off to another world. there's also the requisite sad song for his "i only see her on sunday" daughter: "canzone per lei" and the symbolic "l'uomo che guardava le nuvole". but love is tough, man... you too will remember the one that got away with "ti vorrei rivivere"; the relationship that didn't work out with "solo ieri" and "falsa partenza"; you can't promise somebody forever with "un'ancora nel vento" and "non ti prometo niente" and sometimes, you love this person but really, you have a lot of things to do ("un'emozione per sempre").

to put it simply, buy it, live it, love it and remember the pain

and, oh yeah, the translations in the spanish language album are pretty decent but nothing, NOTHING compares to the originals. suffice to say that it was because of Eros that i took on italian a few years ago (because of "in certi momenti" to be precise). use this as an excuse to learn the language of romance!

5 out of 5 stars European Love Songs with a Beat   August 16, 2003

This is the first Ramazzotti CD I've purchased, and it's wonderful. The music is lush and the songs are of heartbreak and longing, which you can pick up even if you don't speak Italian. Ramazzotti's voice reminds me a bit of Jose Feliciano, only he has more power and better range. The songs are what Enrique Iglesias would sound like if he could really write and sing. The music makes you want to wander the streets of some European city or island late at night and ponder the meaning of love, although you could also dance to alot of them. This CD is also great for parties, where you want your guests to groove to the music but not be overwhelmed by it. My only complaint is that the album is a bit one-sided in favor of ballads and it would be nice to have Ramazzotti mix it up a little. But if you are into very European yet modern sounding love songs, you will fall in love with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent but Eros is Italian..not Latino   September 26, 2004

Eros as usual is excellent. Have followed him since he first appeared on the Italian circuit. Please note: your review that the album is "in Italian from this Latin artist" is incorrect. Eros is Italian first and we take Great Pride in that-he has crossed over and become a star in the Latin arena but he's pure Italian!

    5 out of 5 stars Bellissimo!   July 12, 2003

I have been waiting for a new album by Eros for a long time, and it was worth the wait. The songs are filled with "nostalgia" from "Piccola Pietra" to "Canzone Per Lei" and "Non Ti Prometto Niente" (my favorites) this album is a must for all Eros and italian music fans!. I am now waiting for you Eros to come and tour the USA?!. Sei bravissimo, complimenti, e un album stupende..bacioni!
