might be better than Purhaps, I suppose.... June 18, 2003 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I heard about rufio last year from one of my band mates, he told me to download "still" from the album "purhaps, I suppose...", i thought the bass player was amazing and the drummer was also very good, and thats coming from another punk rock drummer..., my top 3 bands are Rufio, Taking Back Sunday(great romances... is a great song, as are all of theirs.), and Senses fail(great emo band that does not get much airplay or as much respect as it should), well all in all this cd actually has much catchier songs like "White lights", which is my personal favorite, "science Fiction", "Decency", and "Pirate". and also has a great mellower / acoustic start to "Over it" --- "1985" is one of my favorite cds right now and i have over 300 cds that i have boughten and even more that i have downloaded.... i know my music and Rufio is one of the best bands out there... cant wait to see them on the warped tour this year -- they have so much energy -- well heres the song list 1.Countdown - 5/5 -- great beggining track and also gets you in the mood for the rest of the album 2.White Lights -- 5/5 -- the best song on the whole album-- great drum beat in the begginning and then the awesome guitar part comes in , nothing short of amazing... 3.Science Fiction -- 5/5 -- the first song i heard off of "1985", it was on the warped tour 2003 cd, and i immedietely thought it was a classic -- the beggining guitar part lets the energy that rufio produces flow through your speakers... 4.Why Wait -- 41/2 / 5 -- also a very good song with great lyrics... 5.We Exist -- 41/2 / 5 -- yet another amazing song by the all time great Rufio, Rufio, Ru... Fi... Ooohhhh 6.Follow Me -- 5/5 -- starts off slower but then gets great -- the background guitar playing is perfect.. 7.Control -- 5/5 -- very good song... plain and simply put. 8.Set it off -- 5/5 -- a little different type of beginning, but still pure rufio music. and the bridge in this song is great. 9.Decency -- 5/5 -- the chorus is awesome instead of how a normal chorus usually is , very loud, this chorus has just the bass and drums with the singer -- it sounds awesome.. 10.Pirate -- 5/5 -- one of my favorites, everything sounds perfect and is perfected so greatly.. 11.Goodbye -- 41/2 / 5 -- My least favorite -- its only like 1 min 50 sec.. but it still kicks .. 12.Over It -- 5/5 -- great ending song -- starts acoustic and then gets a little louder , i thought "perhaps i suppose was one of my favorite cds, but this cd actually beats it, If you like this band you should check out coheed and cambria, tacking back sunday, finch, yellowcard, thursday, the starting line, and Senses fail.
Awesome, but... June 29, 2003 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I hate to be the first to say it; "Perhaps, I Suppose..." was better.Don't get me wrong, I love Rufio. They incorporate terrific guitar riffs and schemes along with incredible fast drumming and strong bass lines. Their guitar is absolutely amazing. I enjoyed songs such as "White Lights", "We Exist", "Control", and the slower more poppy "Over It." In fact, there wasn't really a song I didnt like somewhat overall. I can't say enough about Rufio's talent, but I think it was better exhibited in their previous full length album. There were more solos, better guitar synchronizing, and it was just overall better instrumentally. However, I still strongly encourage you to buy this CD. The songs I mentioned above, plus the songs re-recorded from their EP ("Set it Off" and "Why Wait"), plus some excellent filler tracks, make up an excellent CD. But if you want more classic Rufio, pick up their previous releases. Songs such as "In My Eyes", "Still", "Tears", and "Don't Hate Me" leave "1985" at a high standard to attain and unfortunately, they were unable to do so, but still this is an excellent CD and I highly recommend it.
Do Rufio ever stop improving?... Perhaps, I suppose. July 20, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Once again Rufio maintain their high standard of unique pop-punk following their previous release 'Perhaps, I Suppose'. You can never get bored of Rufio. On this CD, '1985', they have created catchy guitar rifts that will stay in your head, such as 'White Lights' and 'Pirate'. Although I feel they dont live up to the standars of 'Above Me' - the opening track on their previous album. What makes me prefer Rufio to most pop-punk bands is that Scott Sellers provides unique melodic vocals on top of some of the greatest guitar rifts i've heard. Now i'm not too good on the subject of guitars, but they sure are pretty amazing! Also, he doesnt sing in a girlie voice like most pop-punk bands. If your into 'The All-American Rejects', 'Yellowcard' or 'Millencolin' go out and buy this CD. Perhaps not as good as their previous album, but still worth keeping playing in your CD player for a month or two. Rufio are set to become big, and i'm lucky enough to be going to see them in Brighton in September. More things to come from this young bunch of humourous and talented guys.
rufio=awesome October 21, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
rufio is definately one of the best bands to come out on the punk scene in the last few years. i have both of their full length albums and they're both great. i think 1985 is far better though as far as the production and lyrics. rufio is a pop/punk band but like no other. their music is so fast and their lyrics aren't all about getting dumped and bad relationships. their lyrics are actually hopeful and just great. i can't really compare them with any other bands, but if you like fast,energetic punk then check this album out. every song is a winner(especially the first 3 tracks and the last one).
Rufio 1985 June 23, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
The 1985 CD by Rufio I feel is their best work yet. It has amazing lightening fast guitar, but they also have nice melodic soothing songs such as Over It. The rhythm guitar has awesome crunch and the lead has unbelievably memorably licks. The drumming is unbelievable with perfect timing and anywhere from an awesome thump like the beginning of White Lights to a nice fast beat like Science Fiction. I got an advance copy of this CD and I have been listening to it nonstop for weeks. IT'S THAT GOOD! I even plan to buy another now that it's finally out even though I have a copy, to help support Rufio. If you listen closely to both albums you will notice the singing is a little deeper in alot of the songs which adds a nice change. The bass in this album is also unbelievable like the bass intro to Follow Me. WARNING: If you play this CD for your friends they will all beg you to get them a copy! My final thought is that if you don't buy this CD now, you will never hear the greatest album ever, at least until Rufio comes out with another CD.
