4 out of 5 stars Mya's third studio album entitled her as a self-empowered sexy diva.   May 29, 2006

The smooth tempo Missy Elliot produced first single "My Love is Like...Wo" is a mild prelude to an AMAZING R&B album. Many different "moods" and subject matter are tapped on this album from the playful cocky single "...Wo" to the risque, humorous techno-ish single "Whatever B*tch" that's a definite party starter to the dark atmosphere of "Taste This" in which Mya, over a pulsating beat, turns the tables on a lover that's not living up to expectations. There's also a groovy 70's vibe to "Sophisticated Lady" which samples "Cold Blooded" that finds Mya in control of it all as a dominatrix like vixen.

Amazing tracks and my FAVORITES include the sultry erotic "Anatomy One on One" ("Undressing You with Your clothes on/ Standing up while we're laying down"), the hip hop grinder "Why You Gotta look Good" f/ G-Unit member Lloyd Banks in which Mya confessed if her lover lacked admirable traits such as being "quite so big", she wouldn't deal with his bull, and the crunk Missy and Timbaland produced single "Step" where Mya demands the respect of another hutchie tryna take her man in the club ("If she violate I got the right to strike her" ). The beautiful angelic ballad "You" showcases Mya's vocals very well and proves simplicity sometimes can be perfection.

Some "filler" or disliked tracks include "Things Come and Go" featuring Sean Paul, a boring uninspired Reggae luvey dubey tune, and the DJ Clue produced "Hurry Up".

Mood ring is another solid effort. It is very enjoyable and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes nice Pop/R&B beats and lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars This album is like WO!   July 23, 2003

Mya, possibly the most underrated R&B artist of all time. A lot of lesser music fans don't even know who she is, or simply know her as the "girl from Lady Marmalade". With her 3rd album, Mya proves her talent through a mind blowing 17 tracks, and showcases all sides of her talent beautifully.

    1. My Love Is Like... Wo! (5/5) Initially I hated this song. I've always though that Step should've been the first single. But now I realize how genius of a choice this was. We all know and love this song. Sexy, fun, sassy, this is an instant stand out. Too bad this version doesn't include that genius snap/tap dance part of the song.

    2. Fallen (3/5) I don't like this song. I don't know why it was advertised on the sticker, there isn't anything special about it.

    3. Why You Gotta Look So Good? (ft. Joe Budden) (5/5) - WHOA! Great lyrics, amazing techno/R&B laid back yet somewhat fierce beat, this song is genius. It's about trying to leave someone, but they are just too hot.

    4. Step (5/5) AMAZING, SIMPLY AMAZING. Literally everything about this song is perfect. It's one of the catchiest here, and it's a fierce "get yo hands off my man" track. Perfect, upbeat and funky. Great synth.

    5. Sophisticated Lady (2/5) WTF? This song is so bad. Don't worry, though, it's the last bad song. What was Mya thinking?

    6. No Sleep Tonight (4/5) Really pretty upbeat ballad. Rumored to be the next single. Not a great choice, but still really pretty and catchy.

    7. Anatomy 10n1 (5/5) SEXY! This song is laid back, but very raunchy at the same time. Mya expresses how she is teaching her man how a woman works. Very laid back.

    8. Hurry Up (ft. Gunz) (5/5) Catchy as hell hip-hop song. Genius beat, great lyrics. It's about trying to leave this one guy for another. Is it just me or does this song have middle-eastern influence? genius.

    9. Things Come And Go (ft. Sean Paul) (5/5) Easily the best song on the album. Literally. This song is perfect in every aspect, I can't even put it in words.

    10. You (5/5) The best ballad on the CD, it's somewhat depressing. Mya croons across the track beautifully, over a very R&B beat. The best part is easily the end of the chorus where she goes "everything you do do-do-do-do-do You" it's so pretty, the emotion that comes across is amazing.

    11. After The Rain (5/5) This song is dedicated to Aaliyah and Left Eye. Need I say more? Genius writing.

    12. Late (5/5) The last of the true hip-hop songs. Genius in it's own way, The best is insane, and the way Mya sings the word "Late" makes you melt.

    13. Whatever B**ch (5/5) EASILY the most fun song on the ENTIRE ALBUM. Learn the lyrics, and sing along. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. It's like an upbeat techno satire. Mya's really agressive here.

    14. Taste This (5/5) Ok, now this song is TRULY angry. Mya takes out all her rage here, and we're lovin' it. The beat is mid-tempo and laid back, but so fierce.

    15. Take A Picture (3.5/5) Ehhh I'm not a huge fan of this song. It's pretty and well sung, but there's something about it I don't like. Very summery though.

    16. Free Fallin' (4/5) Much like Christina Aguilera's last track on Stripped (Keep On Singin' My Song), it's very optomistic and has a great outlook on life. Kinda short though.

    17. Real Compared To What (5/5) The bonus song. Recognize it? It's from the Coke commercial with her and Common. It's the full version, and it's pretty darn good! Not something you'd listen to over and over though.

Overall, this album is truly amazing. Mya proves she has what it takes to stick around for as long as she likes. The next single HAS to be Things Come And Go! It has to be a single somewhere along the line at least. Great album, go and buy it, you won't regret it. The only problem is that it leaked 2 and a half months ago. This album is too good not to go platinum

5 out of 5 stars Off the hook!   August 1, 2003

Mya's Moodring has to be one of my favorite cd's. It's not my favorite, Justin Timberlake's Justified holds that spot. I've gotten Beyonce's Dangerously in Love and Ashanti's Chapter II and this album greatly surpases them both. Sometimes the less talked about albums turn out the be the best. Here's a what I thought of all the songs...

    1. My love is like wo....-this was the song that made me get the album. The video is great and missy and mya do their thing.

    2. Fallen - this is a great love song. Her voice is amazing here.

    3. Why you gotta look so good? - the beat is tite and the lyrics are good. I like g-units rap.

    4. Step - a true girl power song.

    5. Sophistacated lady - i like the lyrics and the beat is good.

    6. No sleep tonight - this is one of my favorite songs...perfect for the bedroom.

    7. Anatomy 10n1 - this is her sexiest song. Her voice is very sexy.

    8. Hurry Up - i like how her voice sounds in the beginning. The chorus can get a little annoying.

    9. Things come and go - this song features sean paul...need i say more? but i will...this is my favorite song on the whole cd.

    10. You - a good slow song.

    11. After the rain - i like the message in the song. It's mya tribute to lisa "left eye" and aaliyah.

    12. Late - about being late...i think a lot of women can relate to this scare.

    13. Whatever B*tch - i like this song. Another one of my favs.

    14. Taste This - the revenge song. Mya's voice is angry and mad. I love it...some guys should listen to this song.

    15. Take a Picture - good memory song.

    16. Free fallin' - i like the message...really haven't listened to it that much thought.

    17. Real compared to what. - the coke commerical which is really catchy.

I hope this review was a help to you!

Let me say this if you're thinking about buying Mya's 3rd effort:NO NO NO.I usually dont write reviews but I had to.Mya tried to pull the cover over our eyes and ears.Okay,I know you're grown but if you buy it,don't say I didn't tell ya so.But if your intrested in a Mya album go with her 2nd album Fear of Flying.By far the best. But hey you can't get lucky all the time right Mya?Buy the single 'Fallin' and save yourself some money.I give this album a-oh no she didn't,i'm taking off my earings, it's about to get ugly.

5 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN DANGEROUSLY AND CHAPTER II   August 25, 2003

Yes! this album is way better compare to Dangerously(great up beat and the begginnig but lost it magic and the end) and Chapter II(way toooo slow and 70-80's), I'm not a Mya's fan but this album make me change my mind, this LP is good in many ways, great pictures, includes lyrics and outstanding cuts. Although it includes bad songs like 90% of the albums, this record has great gems like the first single "My Love Is Like Wo", and I read somebody posted that "Hurry Up" as the worst cut but listen to it, I would say a second hit single!, great story and beat produced by DJ Clue. Other good tracks are "Sophisticaded Lady"(Dance beat), "Step"(great hip hop), Why You Gotta Look So Good?(kind of eurohiphop), Anatomy 10n1(sexy), Things Come & Go(feel good song), Take a Picture(good times in your car), and many others, maybe the worst cut is that trend to do covers "Free Fallin'". But after all this is a buck worthy buying record. the end.
