Superior follow up to Lap Of Luxury May 3, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Busted is a solid album throughout. Like Lap Of Luxury, outside songwriters were used but only on five tracks, one of those a cover. It certainly isn't up with their best, but sits in the middle somwhere.
1. Back 'n' Blue is a good opener. Bit too much keyboard perhaps. 2. I Can't Understand it is one of the stand out tracks. Good start and nice vocals and yelling. 3. Wherever Would I Be is an outside written track but is a nice ballard. Was a single. Really like the guitar intro. Think I rememeber it appearing in one of the Look Who's Talking movies. 4. If You Need Me is an OK song but is one of a few that doesn't really stand out. Good filler material. 5. Can't Stop Falling Into Love is a highlight. Perhaps their last 'hit(ish) single'. One of their better tracks from that era. 6. Busted is a good fast song but goes about a minute too long at the end. Too many "Busted, busted"s. Needs to be trimmed to about 3 minutes. 7. Walk Away with Chrissie Hynde is a good track. One of the better ones form the album. Sounds a bit like it should be on Robins solo album. 8. You Drive, I'll Steer is the best track after Can't Stop..... Perhaps the keyboards at the start could go but the song itself is a favorite. 9. When You Need Somone is yet another ballard. Good track but forgettable. 10. Had To Make You Mine is a good song. Never rises to anything above that though. 11. Rock 'n' Roll Tonight is a cover and a nice rocking ending.
Busted is a 'nice' album. It lacks more than a couple of standout tracks though. No bad fillers here.
Ranking-wise is sits in the middle, below Cheap Trick (97), above One on One.
A soft, soft, soft 'Trick record (over) produced by L.O.L. Producer Ritchie Zito, and badly, too! June 7, 2006 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Not much difference between this version and the stateside LP. Too much Tom Petersson, which has wrec- ked several of this once great bands projects. These guys were doing fine with Jon B. Brant (re-listen to The Doctor (***.5 stars), Standing On The Edge (****), Next Position Please (****) or One On One (also ***.5)! Only good efforts since His Dagmarness got recycled have been: Cheap Trick ('97), and Rcokford, but even that is flawed by too much 'familiarity'. Back and Blue and Wherever Would I Be are very good. The rest except for If You Need Me and Can't Stop Fallin' into Love are weak. It sounds like the 'Tricksters COVERING themselves! Bring back Brant, please!
