4 out of 5 stars hollywood glam?   July 10, 2003

The second single off Madonna's dommed project American Life is also the second to be doomed. While the title track did manage a #37 peak, don't expect to see this song chart at all since airplay is scant.

6 tracks adorn this maxi-single. The first track is simply the radio edit of the original version which by itself is a rather Sheryl Crow-inspired kind of song (think the Sheryl Crow or Globe Sessions albums). A piece of quirky and retro rock that's marred slightly but an irritating and repetitive line "push the button" towards the end. However, as a Madonna single, it lacks the kind of punch that usually accompanies her singles.

The Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duck Mix is uninspiring mix that sounds a bit of 80's retro wrapped round the line "Everybody Comes To Hollywood." A tad repetitve for good.

The Micronauts Remix is interwined with delicious eletronic beats and slight retroness to it.

Tracks 4 & 5 are the Oakenfold Full Remix and Deepsky's Home Sweet Home Vocal Remix respectively. Both remixes are more upbeat and made for the clubs. Oakenfold's remix is a huge departure from his American Life remix. Here, he employs his creative remix powress to create a heady version of the song. Deepsky's mix, by far the best here, is a trance mix that makes full use of the original tune. The effect here is one that will keep you on your feet.

The last remix is the Calderone & Quayle Glam Mix. Though I am no fan of Calderone, this remix is sufficiently satisfying with all the drama of a typical Calderone mix. Definitely made for the clubs, this remix is heady and dramatic.

Overall, this Hollywood maxi-single trails behind the excellent American Life maxi. This is a disappointment from Madonna and Warner Bros. for this is not a strong single in the very 1st place. I await for the next.

5 out of 5 stars The remix used on the MTV Awards is on this CD   August 31, 2003

In case anyone was wondering, the "Thin White Duck" remix on this CD is the remix heard during Madonna's performance of "Hollywood" on the MTV Video Music Awards.

5 out of 5 stars The single that US radio djs overlooked !!!   August 18, 2003

Great danceable mixes with enough versions to satisfy any trend. Perhaps this is not the best single Madonna has released, but anyway, it is a pop melodic song with great lyrics and a catchy chorus. After the "American Life" single, this was obviously the correct single to follow after all the controversy caused by the first single and its "Wonderful" video. Living outside the USA gave me the chance to enjoy the original "American Life " video as well as the song over and over. I agree with many people. The USA were not ready to hear from its most famous pop icon that the American Dream is based solely on looks, power and money where nothing is what is seems. It's hard to admit it, but it's a truth well known around the whole world. Madonna dared to sung the wrong lyrics to the wrong country at the very wrong moment: Irak war (which by the way, has caused even more US casualties after the conflict "ended" ).
After my brief analysis, I don't wonder why US djs haven't played this song. While they have not declared openly a boicot to Madonna's records, that's what is obviously happening. All around the rest of the world, Madonna's "Hollywood" is Number 1 for the third consecutive week, with Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" at number 2, struggling hard to dethrone the queen of pop (not an easy task in a LOGICAL music world). "Hollywood" debuted at number 4 in the Billboard singles sales chart and has became Madonna's 30th Number 1 in the Club Play charts. How could you explain that this song has not earn enough points on Radio Airplay in the USA? As a result of this "Not declared" boicot, Hollywood is the first non charting Madonna's single on the Billboard's Hot 100. The only loosers are the US radio listeners which haven't been able to enjoy this nice song. I hope that US radio programers open their mind a little in order to embrace the next single "Nothing Fails" , an hybrid bewteen "Don't Tell Me" and "Like a Prayer". This is a deep catchy song that deserves a better luck. HIP HOP has dominated the Billborad Top 10 in the recent years. This is kind of funny because you don't even need to "SING" anymore in order to own the number one "SONG" in the USA.

5 out of 5 stars HOLLYWOOD! THE DJ'S WILL TAKE U THERE!   July 9, 2003

If u like hi energy dance music, Hollywood is for you! The first track is the radio edit(3:42) which is same song from the original American Life album. This single is a classic in it self and Madonna has done a perfect job whenever she performs this song live for her fans. She did the latter in New York and London

Track 002 is Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duck mix(7:02). This remix is rather timid and very much laid back so to speak. You will not hear this remix on a Saturday night at a club unless it is the last song that the dj plays. Madonna's voice is refreshing on this track though.

Track number 003 is The Micronauts Remix(6:25)It has a kewl dance beat which is groovy. You hear Madonna gasping for air over and over again at the begining and throughtout this track. "Check it out" she says. I like it.

Track 004 is the Oakenfold Full Remix(7:01)! This is the remix to die for! It is one of the remixes that the hottest night clubs in Houston, Tx are playing. The remix is fast, glamorous, cute, somewhat of a rave, techno and house combined. One of the standouts about this track is that you get to hear Madonna sing! Paul Oakenfold has done it again! Get ready to dance my sisters...and brothers!

Track 005 is Deepsky Home Sweet Home Vocal remix(7:34)If u are a great dancer when it comes to dancing in pairs, this song is for you? Atleast that is how I envision it. "Push The button..Don't push the button trip the station change the channel" madonna blurts out over and over again. I do like this remix but I also believe that Deepsky did a better remix of "Die Another Day."

Track 006 is Calderone & Quayle Glam Mix(9:22) This remix and Paul Oakenfolds are the best of the five remixes(excluding track one which is the original from American Life) on this album. Once again you get to hear Madonna sing as the dj's work their magic with the music.

4 out of 5 stars great remixes!   July 13, 2003

These are some very modern remixes with a retro vibe. My favorite is definitely the Oakenfold mix, which is just an awesome dance floor stomper. The Jacques mix and micronauts mix are very interesting as well. I'd have to say i like this maxi more than "American Life" and "Die Another Day", which were also very good.
Madonna is the queen of maxi-singles!
