5 out of 5 stars Radio Rock to Nu-Metal...Its The Ultimate Metal Seduction   March 18, 2004
7 out of 11 found this review helpful

Hmm...I start off by saying that the movie is just so so awesome..i have been waiting for it since quite some time and when i finally got to see it got my jaws frozen as hell.

    Here goes the review....

    1. How Can I Live - Ill Nino -- Oh man! hadn't heard of these guys before this, but when i heard this song i really got hooked on and i got all their albums the same day. This is the best song on this album 5/5

    2. When Darkness Falls - Killswitch Engage -- Amazing song from the new vocalist, good speedy metal. 5/5

    3. Beginning of the End - Spineshank -- Kind of radio rock, but it does have the melody and rythm. 4/5

    4. Sun Doesn't Rise - Mushroomhead -- The second best song and believe me this band is too good to exist. Classy act. 5/5

    5. Condemned Until Rebirth - Hatebreed -- Din't like them before this but it made me change my mind. They rock. 4/5

    6. Snap - Slipknot -- I hate slipknot...disgusting band. Hate their lyrics...their everything. 1/5

    7. Army of Me - Chimaira -- Din't know of them, but this song is damn good and worth a 1000 listens to it. 5/5

    8. The After Dinner Payback - From Autumn To Ashes -- Stupid title to the song, nevertheless...there is some good metal in this one. Worth a listen. 4/5

    9. Leech - Sevendust -- I love this band, cause they are soft , melodic and at the same time get a bit aggressive. This song is awesome. 5/5

    10. Bombshell - Powerman 5000 -- Got bored of it, its a 2001 song, but it has always been one of my favourites. 5/5

    11. We Were (Electrocute) - Type O Negative -- Not like Type O Negative...they really suck on this one. Skip it. 1.5/5

    12. Welcome to the Strange - Murderdolls -- Hate em...a rare disappointment. 1.5/5

    13. Out Of My Way - Seether -- One of my favourite rock/metal bands...the vocalist and the lyrics on this one are just too amazing. 5/5

    14. Inside The Cynic - Stone Sour -- Corey taylor again? Not good...its an OK song...worth a few listens (3 maybe). 2/5

    15. Swinging The Dead - Devildriver -- Great debut band..amazing song but the lyrics tend to put you off...but is amazing. 5/5

    16. The Waste - Sepultura -- Like the title says..sepultura is a waste here..they suck on this song. 1/5

    17. Middle Of Nowhere - The Blank Theory -- A good song , a rocky touch, but has elements of metal. 3.5/5

    18. Ether - Nothingface -- A very good track...this band will rise to higher extents. 4.5/5

    19. Trigger - In Flames -- One of my favourite metal bands ever. I love these guys..this is far too superior to other metal acts by them. 5/5

    20. 11th Hour - Lamb Of God -- Has always been a great metal digger. Their new album, THE AMERICAN GOSPEL is melodic, thrash and speedy like this song. Too good. 4.5/5

So, this makes this soundtrack the best ever as far as im concerned...this has got so many nu-metal acts and most of the songs are brand new. All of the bands are amazing (except 3 or 4) and i hope to see such a soundtrack on the cd shelves in the future. Freddy Vs. Jason - The Soundtrack is simply amazing and a must buy for metal music fans anywhere in the world. Hope you find this review helpful.

5 out of 5 stars The best movie soundtrack I've ever heard!   September 4, 2005

I'm not going to type a long review explaining it, so I'll just do a track listing.

    1.ill nino-How Can I Live:5/5 Great song from a great band.

2.Killswitch Engage-When Darkness Falls:5/5 Starts out real fast and heavy, but slows way down and gets really medolic. Great mix of fast and slow.

3.Spineshank-The Beggining of the End:4/5 One of the slower songs, but really catchy and it will probably get stuck in your head.

4.Mushroomhead-Sun Doesn't Rise:5/5 Another good song from a really cool band. Catchy.

5.Hatebreed-Condemned untill Rebirth:4/5 I'm not a big fan of "hardcore" metal, but this is another catchy song.

6.Slipknot-Snap:3/5 Slipknot is one of my favorite nu-metal bands but, this song is really repetitve and annoying. But, it's an unrealeased track from them so if your a 'knot fan, it's just cool to hear it.

7.Chimara-Army of Me:4/5 I really like Chimera but they have better songs. Still a damn good listen though.

8.From Autumn to Ashes-The After Dinner Payback:4/5 I dont really like this band much but this song is pretty good. Classic metalcore.

    9.Sevendust-Leech:5/5 Your typical Sevendust song.

10.Powerman 5000-Bombshell:3/5 I don't like their style of metal that much but this song is alright.

11.Murderdolls-Welcone to the Strange:3/5 Again, I don't really like this band but this song is OK.

12.Seether-Out of My Way:4/5 surprisingly good for Seether.Super catchy.

13.Stone Sour-Insidehe Cynic:5/5 It's Cory Taylor other band, of course it's going to be good.

14.Devildriver-Swinging the Dead:5/5 Take Coal Chamber vocalist and put him into a better, harder hitting band. AWESOME!

15.Sepultra-The Waste:5/5 Not your Typical Sepultra, much slower, but still great.

16.The Blank Theory-Middle of Nowhere:4/5 Good but not great.

17.Nothingface-Ether:5/5 Slow, but still an awesome song from a great band.

18.In Flames-Trigger:6/5 One of my favorite songs from my favorite band. Fast and melodic. Classic IF.

19.Lamb of God-11th Hour:10/5 Its Lamb of God at their finest.

20.Type O' Negative-We were(electocute)4/5 Maybe the slowest song on the CD but still a good listen.

Once again, the greatest soundtrack ever.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate soundtrack!   September 14, 2003
5 out of 11 found this review helpful

Finally. I buy the soundtrack I've wanted since it came out, and boy, was it worth it. I must say that this is the best compilation of artists on a movie soundtrack, and 14 of the 20 tracks are previously unreleased, which is a plus. A breakdown of the songs:
    1. Ill Nino- "How Can I Live" = ***** (out of 5) A great intro. Check out the video on MTV2 Headbanger's Ball, and also check out their new album, Confession, for this and more.

    2. Killswitch Engage- "When Darkness Falls" = ***** Plenty heavy, especially considering the fact that this is the first song they recorded with their new singer (not counting the live recording of "Fixation On The Darkness").

    3. Spineshank- "Beginning Of The End"= ****1/2 For this track and more, check out the new album, Self Destructive Pattern (released Sept. 9).

    4. Mushroomhead- "Sun Doesn't Rise" = ***** This is standard Mushroomhead sound, and it doesn't disappoint. The video is cool too, and check it out on the new album, XIII.

    5. Hatebreed- "Condemned Until Rebirth"= ****1/2 Perfectly heavy and brutal, but these guys need to think of something new to sing about.

    6. Slipknot- "Snap"= **** The reason this album has "Explicit Lyrics" is this. It's good, but it wasn't the typical sound I was used to for these guys.

    7. Chimaira- "Army Of Me"= **** Aside from the irritating squeaking sounds at the end, this song's pretty solid.

    8. From Autumn To Ashes- "The After Dinner Payback"= ***** Fast, heavy, and hardcore.

    9. Sevendust- "Leech"= **** This is general material from these guys. I'd like to hear something more hardcore.

    10. Powerman 5000- "Bombshell"= ***** A note to whoever said that they copy Rob Zombie's music: Spider-One is Rob's brother! Hello!

    11. Murderdolls- "Welcome To The Strange"= ****1/2 Not as good as most of the stuff from their first album, but still pretty good.

    12. Seether- "Out Of My Way"= ***1/2 I'm not a big Seether fan, but this is heavier than most of the stuff I hear on the radio from them.

    13. Stone Sour- "Inside The Cynic"= **** Not as good as songs like "Inhale", but still good.

    14. Devildriver- "Swinging The Dead"= ***** Like Coal Chamber, but heavier.

    15. Sepultura with Mike Patton- "The Waste"= * I HATE SEPULTURA!!!!! Enough said.

    16. Blank Theory- "Middle Of Nowhere"= **** Not much to say here.

    17. Nothingface- "Ether"= **** Not much to say here either.

    18. In Flames- "Trigger"= ***** One of the two excellent death metal songs on this album. For this and more, check out Reroute To Remain from last year.

    19. Lamb Of God- "11th Hour"= ***** Awesome song, cool video.. what more could you ask for in a song? For this and more, pick up As The Palaces Burn.

    20. Type O-Negative- "We Were (Electrocute)"= **** Great song, but way out of place and really not suited for this soundtrack. Maybe Static X would be better.

Despite one clunker and one misplaced track, this is a great soundtrack, and is properly marketed as well.

4 out of 5 stars A sick soundtrack to a sick movie!   June 28, 2004
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

Movies like Freddy and Jason are expected to have soundtracks like this one. There's no rap, no light rock/ballads and no techno. It's similar to "Headbanger's Ball", but this C.D. seems to be almost a sampler of every band connected to Road Runner Records.
This soundtrack is every metalhead's dream. Just because it's all heavy, doesn't mean there's no variety. There's something on here for everyone who enjoys hard music. There's nu-metal (Powerman 5000, Ill Nino), melodic metal (Spineshank), metalcore (Killswitch Engage), hard rock (Seether), veterans to the metal scene (Type O Negative, Sepultura), hardcore (Hatebreed), thrash influenced metal (Lamb of God, Devildriver) gothic metal (Murderdolls), and even this "New Wave of American Heavy Metal" thing (Chimaira, In Flames). There are probably even a few metal bands you haven't heard or heard of (The Blank Theory, Nothingface).
By now, metalheads should be licking their chops and preparing for a butt kicking.

    Highlights include:

"How Can I Live" combines hard rock (vaguely reminiscent of P.O.D.) with melodic vocals (for the most part) and tribal drums. A good, catchy nu-metal tune that perfectly mixes together different sounds. If you're new to Ill Nino, I recommend you start here.
"When Darkness Falls" would have made a good opening track. The first thirty-or-so seconds are a really heavy onslaught that tears the listener's head off. The song then adds melody (the rest of the song is a lot more melodic), but metal riffs return every now and then. The lyrics are quite repetitive, but the music and vocals change frequently. It's kind of weird and random, but the singer's surprisingly soulful voice make it all come together well.
"Beginning of the End" is the most melodic and radio friendly
song on here. The Deftones-esque rock is fairly hard, but the singer's nice, non-violent voice (which even soars at times) keeps the song melodic. A pretty good song.
"Sun Doesn't Rise" is a good listen, and that's it. This song is from Mushroomhead's new album, but it could have fit in perfectly with the last. There are dual vocals (with one guy sounding like he's vomiting, at times) and pretty unimpressive guitars and drums; but it's catchy enough to be a good listen if you don't overanalyze it.
"Snap" is Slipknot at an infant stage (from 1997). This isn't as hard as Slipknot usually are, and this song sounds somewhat silly (it repeats the same line over and over: "I'm gonna snap, gonna snap..."), but it's catchy and Slipknot fans will eat it up.
"Army of Me" and "The After Dinner Payback" are both really speedy and hard. From Autumn to Ashes prove to be surprisingly heavy, with almost monstrous vocals and instruments.
"Leech" is a fairly typical Sevendust song. Sevendust's robust sound includes their famous hard rock (crunchy guitars) coupled with soulful vocals and, at times, pretty music. A good, catchy song.
"Bombshell" isn't listed as "previously unreleased", because it was released on PM5K's "Anyone for Doomsday" C.D. But since it was pulled, there are very few copies of it floating around. Some songs from it, like "Bombshell", were released only to soundtracks. So, for all intensive purposes, "Bombshell" is new. It's also a pretty awesome song. A wee-, bit of techno finds its way into the beginning and before the choruses, but "Bombshell" is a very energetic, hook infested, hard rocking, head banging, mosh-pit swirling song. The huge choruses are a big part of it, but this song is a lot harder and catchier than anything on PM5K's new "Transform."
"Welcome to the Strange" sounds like what the Murderdolls sound like. It sounds sort of like a speedy Marilyn Manson, mixed with glam rock. The vocals don't quite snarl, but don't sing either. It's a pretty weird song, but pretty catchy, too.
"11th Hour" makes up for the lack of Deicide on this soundtrack. It is by far the hardest song on here; with monstrous vocals, guitars and double-bass pedals throughout make a huge wall of very hard metal. I can just imagine Freddy and Jason duking it out while this song plays.

But, this C.D. comes with a major draw back. According to the tracklisting, 13 songs (14, if you count "Bombshell") were previously unreleased. This seems to say it's a collection of rare songs and b-sides. Unfortunatly, it is not. Seven of the "previously unreleased songs" (tracks 1,2,3,4,8 & 15) were released again, on the band's own C.D., later in the year. Plus, even though "Out of My Way" and "Inside the Cynic" weren't on Seether or Stone Sour's original C.D., both bands later re-released their album with extra tracks, and these tracks they contributed to this soundtrack were included. So, if you're planning to buy the C.D.s from some these bands on here, you'll end up owning some of their songs twice.

Only tracks 5,6,9,10,12 & 16 are the true b-sides and rarities that you can't find anywhere else. If you're a big fan of those bands, you may want to get this soundtrack just for those songs.

The most honest review you'll have read on the 'Freddy versus Jason' soundtrack ever. Here you go:

    Track by track analysis; 1-10.

1.) Good lead-off single, though I doubt that "Ill Nino" can even cut it live without butchering the song completely.

    2.) Danzig Wannabees.

3.) Ding, ding! The second catchiest tune on here chalk-full of delicious hooks. I'm hungry.

    4.) *ffft* Clowns.

5.) Posers. If I want to hear the real thing, I'll buy a Slayer album, not listen to this watered down B.S.

    6.) Overrated attrocities. Skip.

7.) Almost as bad as Linkin Park with dashes of melody and hard rock. Features a so-so guitar solo in the middle.

8.) Okay music--another in a long line of terrible wannabee-but-never-can-be-because-I-don't-have-the-talent-singers.

9.) Couldn't listen to it for over a minute.

10.) When did Powerman 5000 start copping Rob Zombie's material? You mean they've always done that? Okay; figures.

11.) Sounds like Faster Pussycat after they dropped acid (that's not good, in case you didn't figure it out).

12.) I can play the chords of this garbage with my bare toes--child's play.

    13.) Awful.

14.) Repetitive to the point that I think I now suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Repetitive to the point that I think I now suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Repetitive to the point that I think I now suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Repetitive to the point that I think I now suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

15.) This is Sepultura? The band that used to play real metal? What HAPPENED?

    16.) Not bad.

17.) Why the record label allowed these monkeys to waltz into their studio and record this, the world may never know.

18.) Inflames "Trigger"-- Sadly, the only true heavy metal on this entire soundtrack. Excellent piece of orchestration.

19.) The fact that these posers have garnered as much positive attention as they already have makes all true metalheads weep.

20.) I must have fallen asleep by the time this one came on.

Unfortunately, two great tracks and one good tune out of twenty still gets an "F". Go out today and buy REAL metal.
