    3 out of 5 stars Ehhh...it's ALRIGHT   December 11, 2003

I'm not going to say this is a fabulous CD like many reviewers have already said. This CD is GOOD, nothing more and nothing less. Yeah, she DID over-sing the classic Christmas songs, and that's kind of disappointing. I love listening to new versions of classics, but her versions were a little over the top. BUT I will say that I do enjoy listening to this album. The songs are well-produced and her voice, although not at the top of her game, is still very beautiful.

If you want another Christmas CD to play at parties or just in the car for a little while, this one is good, but if you are looking for a Christmas CD that you will continue to pull out in years to come, KEEP LOOKING!

5 out of 5 stars I need more stars!!!!!! You've done it this time Whitney   November 19, 2003

Whitney has left me breathless with the release of this holiday CD. Her voice explodes with power and range often leaving you stunned and overwhelmed with emotion. This is a must have if you are a true Whitney fan. It brings to mind her performance on the Bodyguard soundtrack (the raw power of her vocals).

My favorite at the moment is her rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Christmas. You better sing Whitney.... I can feel the passion of this song from start to finish. Her daughter shines on the Little Drummer Boy too.

All I can say is WHITNEY IS BACK.
    Merry Christmas to all.

One more thing. I can't imagine anyone not liking this CD. STOP HATING ON HER. OK, she has had her share of problems, but lets move on and let her past stay in the past.

1 out of 5 stars Not Christmas... Not Whitney   September 30, 2004
10 out of 15 found this review helpful

I really wanted to like this album. As a collector of Christmas music and one who has always appreciated the talent of Whitney Houston, I waited impatiently for a Whitney Christmas album. Unfortunately, I didn't feel like I got either one.

This is the first inferior album that has had Whitney Houston's name attached to it. The main reason that it falls short is because of Whitney's loss of vocal range. In the past few years, her voice has gone downhill steadily, and it is no more apparent than on these Christmas songs. Even when she hits the high notes, she is struggling. Gone is the effortless vocal soar that she mastered so many years ago. My suggestion to Ms. Houston is to take a few years off, to stop touring, to regain her vocal majesty and then make a comeback album that will knock everyone else's socks off.

Secondly, the album's arrangements are boring and are not Christmasy at all. The "Deck the Halls/Silent Night" arrangement is interesting to say the least, but it's anything but "silent." The words don't match the music. "Little Drummer Boy" is a highlight, due to the appearance of Whitney's daughter and an interesting mix. Still, apart from "Drummer Boy" and the two last songs (which were included on "The Preacher's Wife"), there are no other highlights.

Another complaint is that the album tries to be all things to all people. And it winds up not being anything to anybody. Have we really gotten to the point where even Christmas has to be politically correct? At the end of "The Christmas Song," Whitney wishes everyone a Happy Hannukah, a Happy Kwanza, and a Merry Christmas. With no disrespect intended, it sounds silly. And if that isn't bad enough, Whitney's grammar is wrong on several occasions as well, especially when she says "reindeers."

Overall, the album suffers from lack of direction, lack of good material, and a faltering superstar. Whitney, you've got a fantastic voice. Recover it, rest a while, and then come back and make a real Christmas album. God bless!

5 out of 5 stars Whitney Brings Holiday Spirit Early   November 20, 2003

When I heard that Whitney was doing a Christmas album, I had mixed feelings. After buying and hearing this CD, I am more than happy that I bought it. The feelings she puts into each song can definitely be felt and sends a sense of love, happiness, and joy through your being. I am generally not a holiday person, but this cd has inspired me to put a bit more effort in being cheerful for the holidays. Ms. Houston has chosen songs that have been recorded in their traditional style and made them her own. One Wish is excellent and a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Heavenly Made, Miraculously Born   November 23, 2003

Whitney Houston's One Wish: The Holiday Album is in my opinion one of Whitney's most rewarding and uplifting albums she has ever heavenly sent to her fans. Forget about the media, the tabloids, and the disappointment of her last album, Just Whitney, "THE VOICE" herself has made a tremendous effort to rise once again through this body of art. The first song I just WANTED to hear before my mother bought this was "Little Drummer Boy" featuring miss Bobbie Kristina Brown! Immediately from hearing that sweet and already womanly voice from Bobbie Kristina, I fell in love with all the rest. My other all time favorite Christmas songs on here are "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "Joy To the World" (it's hard to tell if that version came from The Preacher's Wife soundtrack...i believe that she added a little something special in there...it sounds completely different from the soundtrack). All in all, I hope any fan or used-to-be-fan can give Miss Whitney a chance, she has come back with something very rewarding and special for us to share with loved ones on the holiday through peace, joy, and love from heaven to earth.
