    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!   October 16, 2004

Europe is a great melodic hard rock band from Sweden that never got it's due here in the U.S. Those who only remember them from the 80's in their "The Final Countdown" heyday are missing out. The guys have created a lot of classic rock tracks over the past couple of decades and much of it is presented in this 2-disc collection, including an acoustic version of "I'll Cry for You," some rare B-sides and a couple of live tracks. Europe have several greatest hits compilations out there, but to me they are sub-par in terms of track selection and/or sound quality. This release makes up for past mistakes. All the tracks have been digitally remastered and sound great! I highly recommend shelling out the extra cash for the Japanese import as it contains two extra tracks, live versions of "Ninja" and "On the Loose," and a booklet of color photos of the band. To me, the two extra tracks complete a release I've waited a long time for.

4 out of 5 stars The best Europe recopilation so far   July 23, 2004

This is, by far, the best Europe recopilation CD in the market. After a few releases that were clearly oriented to make an extra buck out of the band, this is more of a well-deserved recopilation covering all the band's career, not just the hits.
A very good track selection that gives the listener a pretty accurate idea of how good this band is. Check out Kee Marcello`s impressive fretwork.

    5 out of 5 stars amazing   July 12, 2006

I got this cd for the guitar player. Kee Marcelo is such an amazing guitarist. I found out though that this band as a whole were even more amazing. After listening to this once you will find yourself walking around humming songs from it then when you get home you will need to listen to it more and more. For those who like rock this cd is a must have. So get and enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars A perfect blend for someone who wants the full story.   March 22, 2006

For those who really want the full story on these guys this is probably the perfect release.

We get all the big ones - Final Countdown, Cherokee, Rock the Night and Superstitious et al.

We also get the usual quality Europe sound and we do get a real glimpse of a range of this bands faces. There are some real rockers here and also the inevitable ballads.

For the casual observer, the one disc 82-92 may be the better bet as it's more concise. For the fan who is more into it then this double CD would be my pick to throw in the car before heading off for that holiday, as the longer format has given the space for a more rounded appreciation of this band.

    Good stuff.

    5 out of 5 stars essential   January 28, 2005

"Rock the Night: The Very Best of Europe" is the double CD collection that should've been released in place of the single disc "1982-1992". This is a much more complete collection, showcasing the very best from 1983-1991. The perfect collection for anyone discovering the band, and worthwhile for existing fans due to the inclusion of rare tracks "Long time commin", "Government man", and the 1985 recording of "Seven doors hotel", plus a couple of live tracks.

Of course, everyone knows Europe for "The final countdown". This song was such a MEGA hit that people forget how popular songs like "Superstitious", "Carrie", "Cherokee", "Rock the night", "Let the good times rock", etc. actually were. This collection certainly dispels the myth that some people have that Europe was a one-song band.

All tracks are digitally re-mastered and thus sound stronger than the original album releases. In short, this is a nice compilation of the first half of the band's career. This, plus the 2004 album "Start from the dark" are essential listening for anyone discovering Europe!
