| Customer Reviews:
a voice teacher and early music fan January 25, 2008 SUPERB CHORAL PIECES BY SEVERAL MEMBERS OF BACH'S TALENTED FAMILY. "The motets of the Bach family, as represented in this recording, thus create a precious legacy; one which it is hoped, will soon find the place in the choral repertoire they surely deserve." TIMOTHY BROWN
The Bach family was one of hardworking provincial craftsmen. music being its 'craft', passed down from one generation to the next, as was the name Johann.
England's excellent mixed voice Clare College Chapel choir in 1995, included such personages as countertenors Mark Chambers and Larry Zazzo. The choir performs on this recording eleven rarely-heard gems in their usual skilled and exciting manner. The sound of this group has always impressed me from the first note of a disc to the end. It is a rich resonant and very clear tone quality with precise diction and emotional investment.
The motets are: Johann Christoph Bach (1642-1703) 'Lieber Herr Gott','Es ist nun aus', 'Der Gerechte, ob er gleich', 'Ich lasse dich', 'Furchte dich nicht'; Johann Bach (1604-1673)'Unser Leben ist ein Schatten';Johann Michael Bach (1648-1694) 'Herr, du lassest mich erfahren','Sei lieber Tag wilkommen'; Johann Ludwig Bach (1677-1731) 'Unsere Trubsal', 'Das ist meine Freude'.
Listening to this wonderful music, its clear that Johann Sebastion's heritage was a highly appreciated major factor on his own genius.
