5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Songs   December 20, 2001

Stevie Wonder's Someday At Christmas was originally released in 1967 and the title track still remains relevant today, especially so in these troubled times. The song is an elegant and eloquent hope for a world that is filled with peace, equality and free of poverty , hatred and hunger. The song was referring to the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement, but the lyrics can easily be applied to the state of the world today. The song is absolutely beautiful and we should, now more than ever, try to achieve the ideals the song expouses.

The title song is one of the two or three best pop Christmas songs ever - the writing, arrangement, and performance (hard to believe Stevie was only 16 or 17 when he cut it) are outstanding. The rest of the album doesn't quite have the strong social message or originality of that modern classic, but it is warm and friendly and very pop savvy. It can easily become a regular part of your holiday season, as it has mine for nearly two decades. It manages to strike a nice balance between secular and religious songs. (Though I have to disagree with those below who say you'll never hear a better "Ave Maria" - that's been recorded by a lot of very talented singers. Stevie more than holds his own, but he doesn't make you forget the many other fine versions that are out there).

A lot of Christmas albums come and go; there's a reason this one has survived for over 30 years. Other than Mathis's and maybe Streisand's, how many holiday albums can you say that about?

    5 out of 5 stars Stevie Wonder's Christmas Album   December 15, 1999

It is by far the best Christmas album I know. I am a product of the fifties and sixties and seventies and still think Stevie Wonder's Christmas album goes down in the annals of all the very best Christrmas music ever.

5 out of 5 stars No Christmas without Stevie...   March 18, 2003

I love this collection. Its difficult to descibe what his songs bring to Christmas. Most inspiring rendition of Schubert's Ave Maria. The day that love began and One little Christmas tree will bring a tear to your eye. Thats what Christmas means to me is so full of life and a very enjoyable track. Someday at Christmas is so appropriate to listen to in these belicose times. Silver Bells rings in Christmas time. If I had to pick a favourite song in the collection it would have to be Bedtime for toys. This is a wonderful collection. I only wish that artists, who record Christmas collections at the drop of a hat, would listen to this collection to realize what Christmas can mean with a beautiful rendition like this.

This Christmas album is the best compilation of holiday music of all time. Ave Maria is beautiful. I don't think I have found an album that tops it yet!

IF you love Stevie Wonder, you will love this one.
