Amazon.com While it lacks some of the innocent charm of Pixar's similarly oceanic-themed Finding Nemo, Dreamworks' computer animated fish opera works from a more adult source, spoofing Coppola's The Godfather with an impressive array of all-star vocal talents. Its soundtrack may be one of the film's most consistently successful elements, a party-ready mix of contemporary r&b and hip-hop lite. Two of the highlights here are rooted in a 1970s disco groove: Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott take a slinky cruise through a beat-drenched take on "Car Wash," while Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real" is given a soul-pumped turn by Mary J. Blige (featuring a new rap break by star Will Smith and healthy samples of Lynn's original). Other standouts include fan 3's infectious "Digits," the pop-reggae inflected "Three Little Birds" by Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley, India Arie's dusky, seductive "Get It Together" and the Ludacris workout "Gold Digger." An excerpt from Hans Zimmer's antic, suitably tongue-in-cheek orchestral underscore closes the collection out. --Jerry McCulley

Above Average Soundtrack featuring Big Artists October 15, 2004 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
I was surprsed that Amazon.com didn't provide more information about the actual tracks and artists on the disc. I did go on and buy it after hearing a preview of it on MTV.com and felt compelled to write a review. What makes this soundtrack stand out is that it seems amazing that the producers were able to attract these big name acts for a movie of this nature. Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, Ludicrous, Will Smith (though he is in the movie so that isn't all that surprising), Sean Paul and the list goes on. Most soundtracks seem to feature perhaps one big artist and the others seem out of place or hoping to become well known after being featured on a soundtrack. This one is star studded and the tracks are mostly above average, catchy, well produced and simply fun. The best, and so happens to be the first track, is in my opinion "Three Little Birds" by Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul. A classic song revamped and made to sound as if it could fit in with today's crowd. It has the classic tracks and vocals of Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul's unique lyrics tossed in, making it surprisingly catchy. The second track, "Car Wash," is Christina Aguielra and Missy Elliot's collaboration on the classic hit. Aguilera has her great vocals and powerfully belted out lines and Elliot, producer of this track, inserts a nice little rap section. "Good Foot" is Justin Timberlake's new song. I didn't like it on the first listen but started to get into it a few times later. It sounds like most of his stuff; nothing spectacular but a good beat to it. "Secret Love" is a JoJo track and I felt that this was one of the weaker tracks of the CD. Some good vocals but something seemed missing from it and the track seemed to be a let down from the first three tracks. "Lies and Rumors" is by the group D12. You can tell it was made for the movie with references to some of the characters and situations, fish, sharks and all that. Still, it manages to be one of the CD's top tracks by pulling off being so fun sounded, funny lyrics and good track production. "Got to be Real" is the Mary J. Blige track with a rap section by Will Smith. It's a remake of the Cheryl Lynn song (she has a song on the CD as well. The dance and soul track by the name of "Sweet Kind of Life") It was okay but of course nothing beats the real thing. I didn't find the Will Smith rap all that great. More like a cameo just because he's in the film. "Gold Digger" by Ludacris and Bobby V. tops off the best of the tracks on the CD. There are some others such as a new India Arie song called "Get it Together," a dancey Pussycat Dolls song "We Went as Far As We Felt Like Going" and a horrible track by some group I haven't heard of named fan_3 called "Digits." It's a good mix of songs and artists, covering many genres from pop to r&b, dance to reggae and lots of stuff in between. There was only one or two tracks that really seemed out of place to me but I felt like it was worth buying since these are big artists who came together to put out a nice soundtrack to a pretty successful movie.

This is a very good soundtrack October 2, 2004 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
The songs on the Shark Tale soundtrack are very good. If you like rap or hip hop music, you will love this CD. My favorite track is the hit song Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot. I love it when these two talented performers sing together.
I enjoyed the song Gold Digger by Ludacris. I've never heard him rap before, but I really like this song a lot. Three Little Birds is a very cute song with Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley. It has a nice regaae sound to it. Mary J Blige lends her talents on the song Got to Be Real. I love the way she sings this classic song. It is a fun song that will get you moving.
I'm not a big fan of Justin Timberlake, but he sounds pretty good on the song Good Foot with Timbaland. This track has a great beat, and I enjoyed it. I love the song India Arie performs on here entitled Get It Together. Her voice is so smooth and soulful on this song. This is definitely one of the better tracks on the soundtrack Composer Hans Zimmer contributes an excellent instrumental track entitled Some of My Best Friends are Sharks. This track sounds just beautiful. This is an excellent soundtrack to a very cute movie.
2004, a year may we all forget November 12, 2004 6 out of 17 found this review helpful
Hey folks, have you realized that anything can pass for music these days? Here is proof! Let me start by saying that I am not just writing this review because I saw the movie and disliked it, or because I don't like the artists on this cd. I am writing this review because I have heard this album quite a few times at a reasonalbe volume, sometimes up to three times in a single day. I had worked about 5 days a week at an FYE in my local mall this summer, and was present when a store listening copy of this cd was recieved. The first day we played it about once or twice and it just sounded like the usual corporate waste that the industry pushes to sell and fill soundtracks these days. By the end of the week, and probably about 7 spins later, I was ready to jump out of my skin. Let me tell you, this cd is truly unbelievable. I have never felt so homicidal while and after listening to a cd before, and I'm being dead serious. I felt like taking a box-cutter to a customer's face, and completely snapping on my manager and quitting on the spot. Sean Paul's remarkably cheesy Bob Marley cover of "Three Little Birds" just might be the lamest and most irritating splash of tripe I have heard in recent years. I found D12's "Lies & Rumours" to be equally lousy, if not worse, being that this particular track made me nauseous. Can someone at D12's label let them know that they are pathetic "musicians" (I usually don't call fat criminals who talk on microphones musicians) who must be reaching the end of their career if they have resorted to rhyming about fishes and sea creatures on childrens soundtrack. Another part of this cd bothered me, yet made me laugh though. This was when Will Smith rapped on the track "Got to Be Real" featuring the very overrated Mary J. Blige. I tell you, his rap in this song is HANDS DOWN the worst in the history of the genre! It's astonishing that it was even created, it is so embarrassing on his part! At least I was able to laugh my ass off for that one minute of bliss. Thank you Mr. Smith, your rapping quite possibly prevented me from having a nervous breakdown and hurting innocent mall shoppers. Two more notable atrocities were Christina Aguilera featuring Missy Elliot - "Car Wash (Shark Tale Mix)", and the Ludacris song "Gold Digger". The glossy cover of the 70's campy "Car Wash" causes pain only the combination of Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot can create. Great, sharp migraine pain, which is similar to exacto knives running around deep in your skull. Missy Elliot needs to stop recording songs, beacause she is truly dreadful. The proof is right here. The Ludacris song, "Gold Digger" is such a depressingly lousy rap song. A very dull, unoriginal, and downright sad song. To conclude, this cd has proven to me that this musical era must soon be drawing to a close. I hope for the sake of the young and impressionalbe music fans out there, that pathetic commerical rubbish, like the "Shark Tale" soundtrack does not set the standard in their hearts, minds, and souls, as great and acceptable music.
Finally!! a good soundtrack! November 13, 2004 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
This soundtrack absolutely ROCKS! Most of the songs are R&B & dance type and even though I'm more of a pop-rock fan..I love the songs! Here are the songs on the soundtrack.. Three Little Birds (sean paul & ziggy marley)-..this song is really fun and catchy..i love singing along to it! its one of those feel good sunday mornin type of songs..perfect! Car Wash (christina aguilera feat. Missy Elliot)--i know what ur thinking..christina aguilera and missy elliot TOGETHER?! but trust me..the result is miraclous! This song is one of my fav. songs on the soundtrack. It has a mix of fun pop & some great beats that'll get you up and dancing in no time! Good Foot (justin timberlake)--classic R&B..very catchy..has a cool beat! Secret Love (JoJo)--another one of my favorites..JoJo's soulful voice and the beatiful tune & lyrics make this song absolutely fabolous. Lies & Rumors (D12)--this is the only song on the soundtrack i dont really like..it has a weird beat & is really annoying! Got To Be Real(Mary J. Blige feat Will Smith) VERY catchy..i just cant help movin to the beat! Cant Wait (Avant)-- a slow Craig David kind of song..nice tune! Gold Digger (Ludacris feat. Bobby V.)--yet another of one my favorites!! has a great dance beat! Get it Together (India.arie)--a slow song..perfect for slow dancing! hehehe We went as far as we felt like going (Pussycat dolls)--this is a total contrast from the last song (get it together!)..this has a disco kind of beat..the lyrics are nothing great but the beat's fun! Digits (Fan_3) i love the beat of this song! a lot of people would find it annoying especially the echos of "watsup?!" in the background but its really fun and dance type! Sweet Kind of Life (Cheryl Lynn)--and ANOTHER dance song!! its perfect for those 80's kind of moves and is another feel good kind of songs! Some of My Best Friends are Sharks--this is an instrumental track. it starts off all slow and classical but then slowly transforms into a cool action type of beat. a brilliant end to this soundtrack. so all-in-all...again..this soundtrack is awesome! It contains 50 mins of some slow & beautiful and some fast & dance type songs! a very good buy! a soundtrack this good with such a great variety is rare! 5 stars all the way
