Amazon.com Love her or loathe her, uber-diva Jennifer Lopez knows how to deliver on record. She understands how to make the most of her limited vocal range, choosing to surround herself with able producers Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, Big Boi and Cory Rooney, who oversaw Lopez's first album, On the 6. The mix makes Rebirth far more enjoyable than it should be, coasting on midnight-groove ballads and polished dance tracks. Lopez's fourth studio album offers little insight into her much-gossiped-about persona, but it's an undeniably fun ride anyway. A blaring James Brown horn riff drills first single "Get Right" into your head almost immediately, and soon enough, you'll find yourself bopping to the beat. The Middle-Eastern flavor of "Step Into My World" is undeniably seductive, and it's actually enhanced by Lopez's wisp of a voice. "Whatever You Wanna Do" and "Cherry Pie" are solid dance tracks, the kind of grooves Janet Jackson made before she became a Superbowl afterthought. Elsewhere, the album is peppered with R&B ballads, much like Lopez's 2002 opus, This Is Me ... Then. Rebirth is hardly a groundbreaking affair, but it continues to showcase Lopez's skillful trend of producing solid, catchy, R&B-laced records. Nothing here ever sounds forced or canned, and in the world of MTV and radio edits, maybe that does make Lopez a bit of a revolutionary after all. --Joey Guerra [Note: This DualDisc version includes: CD AUDIO SIDE: Entire Album DVD SIDE: Entire album in enhanced stereo and exclusive video content only available on Dual Disc: 1. The BEST Album of Jennifer Lopez ! March 2, 2005 CAMREBIRTH (Mexico) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I love this album it's a CLASSIC! This tecnology DUALDISC is also the best right now, a CD and DVD in 1 Disc. THE DVD Features: -Rebirth album in Dolby Digital DVD Audio 5.1 -Making the Album -Videos: Get Right, Get Right Remix Feat.Fabolous -Making The Video: Hold You Down Feat.Fat Joe I love all the songs, are great, the Timbaland's song "HE'LL BE BACK" gonna be a Hit, is R&B like "Cry Me A River" of Justin Timberlake. Also love the 3rd single "STEP INTO MY WORLD" pruduced by Rodney Jerkins, it'a a hot single! Jennifer I'm soooooo proud of you baby !
Great Album, Bad DVD June 19, 2005 Robbie B 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a Jennnifer Lopez fan but I have also seen many faults in her music over the years and I don't think Rebirth is one of them. It is a shame this album hasn't done that well but I think that is mainly down to the poor second single. Anyway for those of you who haven't heard it here is my track by track review: 1: Get Right - the first single with the catchy hook. My first impression was that it was good but as a first single she could have done better but then I saw the video (which is on the dual disc) and my love for the song grew. The horn is slightly annoying if you focus on it and not the words, the hip hop mix is a much better version of the song and that can be found on the Hold You Down single in the UK. 7/10 2: Step Into My World - great song, one of my favourites. Her voice sounds soft and sophisticated and is perfect for the song. It has quite a hypnotic sound and I think it would have been perfect for a single. 8/10 3: Hold You Down - such a disapointment for me, I really think it sounds like a bad version of All I Have. The remix of this song by Corey Rooney which is also on the UK single of Hold You Down is much better than this. This is actually the only J.Lo single which I haven't really liked but it still isn't that bad a song. 3/10 4: Whatever You Wanna Do - when I first heard the album this song stood out. It sounds a lot like Ameries "1 thing" no wonder really as Rich Harrison produced both. It is very funky and makes you wanna dance. It is rumoured to be the 3rd and final single, typical J.Lo. 8/10 5: Cherry Pie - Jennifer's personal favourite and one of only two songs that she wrote for the album. Probably the only pop song on the album, with a slight hint of a rocky beat. She sounds great and once again this would have been a great single. It is my 2nd favourite on the album. 9/10 6: I Got U - Nice enough, darkchild song. Very much an album track, nothing really that special but a nice upbeat song, she seems to be trying a lot more on this song with her voice. 5/10 7: Still Around - although it won't win any awards I do like this song a lot, the only part which annoys me is the man in the middle talking to her. A summery sort of song which really suits her voice. 7/10 8: Ryde or Die - the Brandy cast off, you can still hear her voice on the song. This is the sort of album song which isn't really worth commenting on, it's not good it's not bad it's just nothing really. 4/10 9: I, Love - I like this song because although the beat is very typical it still works. The lyrics are very sweet. One thing Jennifer seems to be able to do with this album is pick songs which she knows will suit her voice and this one deffinitly does. 7/10 10: He'll Be Back - One of the songs I will skip to straight away, the sort of song that seems so personal and that you could imagine would have been about Ben Affleck yet she never wrote it. The lyrics are actually the best part of this song, and i'm sure a lot of people would be able to relate to them in some way. 8/10 11: Can't Believe This Is Me - Here we go my favourite song. I love this song for a few reasons, one is that it is so different to anything that she has ever done before. Her voice sounds better than it ever has and she sings with real passion - maybe as this is one of the other songs that she wrote. The lyrics are once again brilliant. I think even if the rest of the album was awful (which it isn't) that she could make up for it with this one song. Brilliant, in my eyes it is a perfect song. 10/10 It is a bit annoying that she wrote so much on This Is Me...Then to so little on this, but at the end of the day a good album is a good album and this is. It has lots of different styles and isn't the sort of album you get bored listening to half way through (This Is Me...Then). The documentary on the DVD lasts 6 minutes and still it features most of the get right video in it again. It really isn't worth it unless you are a hardcore Jennifer fan, not for the casual buyer.
A star is reborn March 2, 2005 Kat (MI) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This cd is far superior than her 2002 effort, This Is Me...Then. This cd offers smooth R&B beats such as Step Into My World, Still Around, and He'll Be Back. It also has upbeat dance tunes which include Get Right, Whatever You Wanna Do, and Cherry Pie. It is a wonderful mixture of music! You will not be sorry for buying this. The dual disc is great to have also; it includes both versions of the Get Right video, one of them featuring Fabolous, and a documentary of Rebirth. It is worth the money. You will not be sorry with this purchase. Good job J. Lo!!

F.A.B.O.L.O.U.S.(I luv it!): 6/5 This cd is some different than the last... . Featuring Fat Joe and F.A.B.O.L.O.U.S. You know, I'm not at all a pop fan, but I like J.Lo You know, I like especially the both hip-hop styles: commercial (P.Diddy/Nelly...) and real(Tupac/MOP/LL Cool J/Nas/Snoop...) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The DVD side is great too with the video clip of both versions of "Get Right" and a documentary about the making-of of this cd. I dont like "get right" clip without Fabolous but the one with him I like it, hip-hop/r&b style clip. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lyrics: 2.5/5 Beats: 4/5 Prods: 4.5/5 Featurings: 4/5 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> P.S.: For your info, Get Right & Hold u down are on a DJ Clue? mix-tape...so...it's quite good in a large view... >>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5 stars for underrated item instead of 4...
JENNY IS BACK!!! April 1, 2005 Jynx (netherlands antilles) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just started to really get into JLo when i listened to her This is me.....Then album a few years ago so i made a promise to buy her next album...and all i can say is: i'm addicted to this album. i liked every song on this album except "whatever u wanna do"..the beat is kinda off i think.(that is why 4 stars) I actually like "This is me....Then" a lil more but they kinda have the same R&B vibe. The Dual Disc is worth the money if u liked the "Get Right" video's...Plus it has a documentary about the making of Rebirth and the whole album in surround sound ( can come in handy if ur hosting a houseparty in surround sound)...so pretty cool i'll say...Seriously, go get this album if ur a JLo fan and if ur not, after this album u'll b one!!!
