Don't buy this if you're under 40! February 25, 2006 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I can understand Shania's younger fans being disappointed when they play this album expecting it to be more of the same following her previous four...
I, on the other hand, am 45 years old and have no qualms over admitting to being a bit of a head banger (still...). The first LP (vinyl) I ever bought was Deep Purple's 'Made in Japan' (I also have most everything they've ever done since, in all their various guises) so this album is right up my street.
Blokes my age have a 'thing' about raunchy, leather-clad rock-chicks belting out some good hard driving numbers - Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Girlschool, Cher of course... So to think of a young Shania up on stage giving it what she's got with these works for me.
For the serious fan this a must as it showcases perfectly the talent she had developed during her formative years. Her later albums produced by Mutt have toned down her vocals, as you tell if you compare her album tracks with the live performance CDs/DVDs. She has a very powerful voice with which she can belt out a number seemingly effortlessly, to great effect.
If you see her performing her songs from 'UP!' (International versions) live, with their hard driving guitar riffs and prominent drum breaks, it's obvious this is where her heart lies. I like it, and I've given it 4**** in context, so...
DON'T buy this if you don't like this genre of music, cos if you do you'll hate it (see some of the other reviews)
DO buy it if you're over a certain age, and enjoyed this genre in the '80s and have become a Shania fan since. You won't be disappointed...
No more! Shania! November 2, 2005 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
I love Shania's songs very much, such as Don't, Party for Two, Forever and For Always, and so forth. I thought her songs are always best qualified. However, when I listen to her "new" albums "Send It With Love" and "Beginnings", I feel I am cheated. The songs are totally not Shania's style that I like, and it is obvious that the songs were produced at the time that the singer was not truly Shania Twain. They are not available to add more to her success, but more money. To a top country music star, money is important; the more important thing is her/his reputation that he/she got after his/her many efforts. These two albums are, in fact exact ONE - all of the ten songs of "Beginnings" are in the album "Send It With Love". Shania's albums used to have more duplication, even though the songs are pretty good. The two 2005 "new albums" look like worse. Maybe Shania can earn more money from these two poor albums, but she must lost more likeness and get more disappointment from her listeners.
Hardcore Shania fans only May 8, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I only recommend this cd for hardcore Shania fans as it's a 80's rock album. I think its a great album but not Shania's best. Again hardcore Shania fans only (like me)
