    Editorial Reviews:

On an album filled with a conventional spread of crunkadelic beats and yelled out choruses so popular in the dirty south, it's unexpected that the heart of the Ying Yang Twins new album would be the downtempo salaciousness at the center: "Wait," "Pull My Hair," and "Bedroom Boom." Guaranteed to either titillate or offend (or perhaps, both), the songs find the Ying Yang Twins pioneering a whole new sub-genre, what Mike Banner has (jokingly?) called "intimate club." If you prefer your Ying Yang fix outside the sheets though, they have some vigorously upbeat tracks like "Ghetto Classics" (which samples Art of Noise's 1980s new wave hit, "Beat Box") and the infectiously bilingual "Shake" feat. Miami's Pitbull. The album even gets serious with the somber "23 Hr. Lock Down" feat. UGK's Bun B who speaks on his partner's Pimp C's incarceration, as well as the single mama's anthem, "Live Again." -- Oliver Wang

    Album Description
Atlanta's Ying Yang Twins follow up their platinum breakthrough TVT Records cd, "Me & My Brother" and its massive hit "Salt Shaker", with the album of their career, "United State Of Atlanta." Kaine and D-Roc's latest smash, "Wait (The Whisper Song)," dominated clubs, radio and TV music video countdowns throughout the spring of 2005. A second single, "Badd" featuring Mike Jones looks just as strong, even as fans can't get enough of the "Wait" remix featuring Lil Scrappy, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot and 106 & Park's Free. No longer just a Dirty South phenomenon, Ying Yang Twins have enlisted the help of guest stars Anthony Hamilton, Pitbull, Maroon 5 (yes that Maroon 5), Bun B, BG, Avant, Jacki-O and r&b singer Teedra Moses to present their most diverse and surprising album yet. Once again, DJ Smurf handles a lot of the production duties, and Lil Jon oversaw a track for his homies as well.

    Album Description
Hailing from Atlanta, The Ying Yang Twins present their 3rd album with guest appearances from Maroon 5, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott as well as fellow TVT artists Lil Jon and Pitbull. Comes complete with a 2nd disc entitled U.S.A. Chopped & Screwed that has been remixed by Michael '5000' Watts. 2005.

    2 out of 5 stars 2-1/2 stars -- Less yin-yang, but still below-average   December 6, 2005

I never liked the Ying Yang Twins at all until I heard that song "Salt Shaker". I also enjoyed the following single, "What's Happnin", and although I still didn't pick up Me & My Brother, I decided to try out their latest offering, U.S.A.

One thing that gets me, though, is sometimes it feels as though there are more than two people in the group. Even on tracks when the Twins are by themselves, it sounds as though there are more people. One of them (I still don't know their names) tends to rap in three different voices while the other one sounds like Nine. Oh, well; they can still churn out some good stuff like "The Walk", "Ghetto Classics", and the obligatory song featuring Bun-B, "23 Hr. Lock Down". Their latest single, "Badd", is also a highlight.

But there ARE several missteps, hence the two-and-a-half-star rating. For one thing, the album is too long (77 minutes). There are way too many skits that don't go anywhere; in fact, in the middle of the album, every other track is a skit. Most of them are about sex, as are many of the songs -- which leads me to what I think is the most overrated song they ever made: "Wait (The Whisper Song)". Sure, you can't front on the beat, but I think the lyrics are stupid.

Speaking of that song, there's a remix of it at the end of the album, where the Twins and their producer Mr. Collipark are joined on the mic by a very odd combination: Busta Rhymes, Free and Missy Elliott. And the problem there is that although Busta kicks a nice verse, he then trades off talkin' dirty with one of the Twins, and it sounds odd for two straight guys to be doing that. The same can be said for the necessary slow jam "My Brother's Keeper", where the Twins are talking about their tight friendship, but the first verse kind of sounds like a more suitable illustration for a romantic relationship. Anyway, most of the sexual songs really aren't impressive, like the sleazy "Bedroom Boom" (featuring Avant). "H**s" features Jacki-O (there's an easy joke there, but I didn't touch it) giving an unsurprisingly weak performance; and speaking of Jacki-O, "Pull My Hair" might even make HER throw up.

Other guest stars don't impress either. Pitbull's appearance on "Shake" neither helps nor hurts matters, and by the way, he of all people should know that "mentirosa" and "senorita" do not mean the same thing. And I guess having Adam Levine guest on your track is becoming a fad now, but regardless of his good singing, his chorus adds nothing to "Love Again", a story about a girl living life as a stripper. Teedra Moses also does nothing to save "Put That Thang Down", and speaking of that, Lil Jon produced that song and I'm thinking maybe he should step his game up a little because this is another case where the music sounds like "Freek-A-Leek".

There are also a few songs that have repetitive choruses, like the title track and "F the Ying Yang Twins". Those that don't like dirty South music will probably say the latter took the words right out of their mouth, while those IN the South will most likely snatch this album up if they haven't already. As for the rest of us, four good songs don't make an album, so you can really skip this.

LOL. Alright yea yea we all know of YYT being a club banger group and what not. But come on! Ive only heard half of this album and its wack. All there other albums before this suck. They cant flow, they have HORRIBLE voices. They rap about the SAME things every song. Guess thats what people with no talent/money hungry do. I mean yea the girls like it in the clubs, but I mean thats as far as this music goes! Anyone can write lyrics about the stuff they do, and have a better voice than them! By far. Its funny how rap like this gets popular, but REAL hiphop doesnt, Ill always wonder that. Dont get this.

The review above (under the title "Album Description"), states that the twins present their "most surprising and diverse album yet". Wow!..what a statement. According to the dictionary:

    diverse (d-vûrs, d-, dvûrs), adj.,
    1. Differing one from another.
    2. Made up of distinct characteristics, qualities, or elements

How could a word that means: "differing one from another" & "distinct characteristics, qualities, or elements" be used to describe an album whose main theme is random sex & corny sing-songy hooks? The only surpise is that they can find new ways to say the same thing. How could this be attractive to the music listener?

If you think your life consists of 1 long party with no interest in the growth & development of your (the listener) personal interests---and not the interests of the people trying to sell you thus mindnumbing foolishness, then please run out & pick this up...it's hot to def...enjoy.

What person of color would listen to some kats named lil SAM and big BO? SAMBO? They are insulting themselves as well as any other person of color in the world. These guys rhymes suck so bad they make my ears want to retract into my head so they won't have to suffer anymore. To add insult to injury these clowns probably don't know what sambo means and chose the names cause they thought it was "cool". Do us all a favor and find the nearest/strongest southern oak tree and string yourselves up on it plantation style.

This album and group in general is total garbage. All of this pop rap that is very popular now just really sucks. The whole crunk faze has nothing to offer. There is no good music coming from artists like paul wall mike jones and basically everyone from the "dirty south" Listen to Tupac or kanye west or somebody who isnt more concerned with the gold in their teeth and their rims. This music is pathetic and pretty much everyone from the dirty south is a poser who only cares about the money and will write the crappiest songs as quick as possible just to make money. If you support this crap you are just as bad.
