4 out of 5 stars A HOT PERFORMANCE WITH STAYING POWER!!   September 25, 2006

Four BIG Stars!! Amerie and Eve in a great Remix performance! Eve is driving, rapping hard and clean, getting two rap bites out of this delicious musical apple. Amerie comes out smoking, rocking with her beautiful upper register, in solo and a hip riffing background. I love the way she sings and she is a stunning looker!

The use of a real drummer dealing from the Tony Williams-school of hard rock drumming is great and he keeps the heat on, as he verbally shouts encouragement. Amerie responds great to his fiery drumming. Using only a guitar, bass, and drum trio for background support leaves her vocals totally exposed and she carries it off well! She is consistently on the mark since the singular success of the hit "Why Don't We Fall In Love" (still the only music video that I have ever purchased individually). This single, based on the version from the "Touch" CD, has been re-mixed over and over, demonstrating it's danceable popularity. ( I recently ran across an Australian re-mix of "1 Thing" and it's hot too!) Four BIG DANCEABLE Stars!

5 out of 5 stars Definatley one of the best singles of the year....   September 22, 2005

Amerie came a long way since her first single "why don't we fall in love"... a little shy sounding but had the confidence to stay one of r&bs shining stars... that was 2002. now in 2005, she is this sex bombshell that puts beyonce in her place... '1 thing' is argubally one of the 10 best tracks of the year....

This is what i call "hardcore r&b". just like beyonce's 2003 hit "crazy in love" & 2005's 'get right' by J. LO (all done by the same producer rich harrison), the percussion is just so hard-hitting and draws your attention....her voice is just the right tone and pitch for this song. the remix with EVE is also great but the original is what made me fall in love...

amerie just proved her point that she is one of the sexiest female singers out right now... she bumped ashanti and beyonce out of orbit.... and this song will continue to be in dj songlist, car stereos, and cd players for life.

4 out of 5 stars One Smash!   May 24, 2005

Amerie has really been one of those surprising acts this year. She did earlier have some moderate success with a couple of well-penned tracks like the soulful Talkin' To Me, and her first single Why Don't We Fall In Love. Yet, her latest is arguably better than those before. One Thing, the break out track from the Will Smith comedy Hitch is a very catchy and upbeat pop song. It really is her best so far. It is just a great song that you definitely can get up and dance to. However, I wish I could say the same thing about her remixed version with rapper Eve, where that one seems a little more overdubbes than Amerie solo. One thing is a real good song and that is just one thing to say.

    Amerie solo: B-

    Amerie with Eve: C-

5 out of 5 stars On point!   December 16, 2008

Hot song...good if you don't want to take a chance on the album and/or
aren't an Amerie fan.I prefer the remix with Eve flowing but like the opening of the original track best.

    3 out of 5 stars 1 thing is sure: it's a Hot track!   July 14, 2005
    Motownphilly (France)
I remember Amerie's debut was really a fine one: it was the kind of smooth and laidback grooves I just can't get enough. It was a lot more soulful than, say, Ashanti, even if critics tried to depict Amerie as just another of those "urban pop" trendy singers with nice faces but not a lot of talent.
1 thing is sure: Amerie's "1 Thing" has nothing to be compared with her previous works. It's not smooth at all anymore, but instead it's a raw funky R&B track. Possibly the best of the year in its category.
A good song to nod your head to, which proves that Amerie is as at ease on floor-filler songs as on her usual down/midtempo material. It's really a good tune, especially the version without Eve. She has done what Beyonce did 2 years ago with her banging "Crazy In Love", a track, which unlike most of "so-called" R&B you can hear on the radios, is wildly funky!
