Amazon.com Hilary Duff stares off the cover of Most Wanted with the look of a doe-eyed, feathered-haired criminal. Or maybe she's just exhausted, which would explain why she revisits so much already-released material. Three of the teen queen's biggest, brightest hits ("Come Clean," "Rock This World," and "Why Not") get the remix treatment. Impossible though it seems, each remix is still zippier than the original. Perennial fave "So Yesterday" is squished between the hard-rockin', deeply satisfying "Mr. James Dean" from 2004's Hilary Duff and the too-girlie-for-its-own-good "Metamorphosis" from the same-named 2003 disc. There are three originals including opener "Wake Up", a slightly self-pitying look inside the celebrity glass bubble, but to a great beat, the danceable "Beat of my Heart," and emo-esque "Break My Heart." The burning question of whether it's worth it to buy this record based on the inarguably good remixes and three original tracks will be dictated by how severe her fan base's withdrawal symptoms are. If magazine covers bear any relation to the old practice of plastering a town with "wanted" posters, odds are Duff's zillions of fans will not only find this disc but help her deliver on its smart title's promise. --Tammy La Gorce

The Epitome of "Problem" September 16, 2005 84 out of 129 found this review helpful
Way back in the 1970's, even the 1980's, albums reaching #1 on the Billboard chart that were simply "okay" was a rare occurrence. Unfortunately, nowadays such an occurrence is commonplace, and Hilary Duff's "Most Wanted" is just one example of this.
Indeed, those who complain about Duff's lack of vocal talent are often met with a response from her supporters that her voice is at least "okay" - certainly nothing to speak of in such derogatory terms. These people need to do a little more poking around online and in record shops; there is an abundance of outstanding music sitting on record store shelves gathering dust while Duff's latest release keeps moving massive amounts.
Besides the low caliber of the singer on "Most Wanted," equally perturbing is that the album is a cash-cow rehash of previous material, with only 3 new recordings. The disc most definitely screams "contract fulfillment grab-bag release," especially since Duff has only released two previous full-length albums and contributed to a few soundtracks; hardly enough material to draw from to constitute a greatest hits collection. Therefore, what does the success of the disc mean about American consumers? They can be very easily manipulated.
As for the new material, lead single "Wake Up," her highest-charting single on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart at #29, is a feel-good pop ditty with easy beats and mumbo-jumbo lyrics. Also, "Beat of My Heart" is a slice of forgettable electro-pop with an appalling vocal performance where Duff sounds about half her age, while "Break My Heart" not only has a similar title as the former track, but SOUNDS shockingly similar as well; one only needs to divert their attention to anything else while listening to the CD before forgetting which of the two they are listening to. Both tracks echo the attitude and style of Avril Lavigne, but with none of the vocal or songwriting talent behind them.
The previously released material is a small saving grace, however. "So Yesterday," her first bonafide hit single in 2003, remains as cute and doe-eyed as ever, and "Come Clean" and "Fly" have catchy hooks. Non-singles like "The Getaway" and "Metamorphosis" are also thrown in to round out the disc, the latter of which is extremely addicting with its racy lyrics and urgent, frothy production.
Furthermore, the poser rock of "Girl Can Rock" and her frightful duet with sister Haylie covering "Our Lips Are Sealed" by the Go-Go's, previously released on soundtracks, make their first appearances on a full-length Duff release. 2005 remixes of "Why Not" and "Rock This World" are also included - but sound precisely identical to the original versions.
Overall, "Most Wanted" is not only a disappointing release, but its sheer sales success is just another sad indicator our nation's musical I.Q. A hodgepodge of forgettable, anemic pop beats and vocals by way of studio magic with only a touch of new material, it is the epitome of the word "problem." Recommended in its stead is "The Emancipation of Mimi" by Mariah Carey, a hot album created by a genuine talent that has not left the Top 5 since its release for a reason!
Nice hits collection August 16, 2005 75 out of 104 found this review helpful
Hilary Duff will probably never be a music critics darling but that doesnt stop her from making infectious bubblegum pop music that becomes everyones quilty pleasure. A greatest hits album may seem premature given she's only had two albums however this album collects all of her popular tracks from her various soundtracks along with her singles and album cuts. Looking at the tracklisting Hilary has been a very buisy girl indeed.
The album features all her big hits So Yesterday, Fly, Come Clean (in a rather remixed dance form) and a slightly updated version of the Lizzie Maguire song "why not".
The 2005 remixes are pretty good. "Come Clean" has a been remixed to have a more club/dance sound. On "why not" and "rock this world" the songs have been given more of a guitar/rock feel than the original's upbeat dance pop.
There are three new tracks to entice fans who already own her first two albums. "wake up" the album's first single finds Hilary in her usual pop/rock mode singing about her trappings of fame. And its all quite catchy. "break of my heart" and "Beat of my heart" are typical bubblegum fare and its up to the listener to decide if its good.
Hilary's sister Haylie Duff shows up to duet on "Our lips are sealed" a cover of the Go-go's 1980s hit. The track is listenable but not the strongest on the album.
Overall the album is a good mix of pop songs and a great package for those who passed on Hilary's first two albums. A fun album and must buy for anyone who likes good pop music-whether they want to admit it or not.
Good review for an exam in Duff Studies August 20, 2005 15 out of 22 found this review helpful
I would recommend this CD mostly to hardcore Hilary fans and to Hilary neophytes who want a sampling of her music. A full half of the CD are songs that have been previously released in the exact same arrangement, and four more are remixes of old songs. Only three of the 14 tracks are completely original, and they are pretty good, so if you have all of her other stuff and it's worth it to you to get three songs for $10, then you'll be happy with this purchase.
All of the new songs are lively and spirited. "Wake Up" is very catchy, with a driving, upbeat rhythm. There is also a nice personal touch to the lyrics, reflecting on the surreal existence of celebrities. "Beat of My Heart" gets a little repetitive, with the song's title repeated some four dozen times (I had to check a couple times to make sure my CD wasn't scratched). There is, however, a lot of interesting percussion that keeps it from being a boring song. "Break My Heart" is the most generic "rock and roll" song on the album, with not much of a melody until the chorus, and even then it's fairly standard and predictable where the tune is going. Guitars and drums are featured almost to the point of excess, perhaps as a way of covering the lack of melody. Still, it is a pleasant song and, like the others, upbeat.
The remixes are fun. "Come Clean" features a techno beat that works surprisingly well with the chorus, given that it is a somewhat slower song. "Why Not" is still a good song, even in this third remix of it.
All in all, it's a good album...just don't expect much new material.
She's Not Talented August 16, 2005 14 out of 48 found this review helpful
People who like Hilary Duff she is not talented AT ALL! She doesn't write her own music, she can't sing, she only got a record deal because of her show Lizzie McGuire.
This is a greatest hits album? She only has 2 cds and 3 music videos total from both of them, pathetic. Christina Aguilera should release an album before Hilary.
For this cd Hollywood Records only wants your money.
Hilary Duff : Most Wanted.....TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!! September 3, 2005 13 out of 19 found this review helpful
OH MY GOD! This is music?? What music?? Sorry I don't listin to mice. Oh also wnat to know something funny? I have this video player and when you fast foward through something it makes pplz sound like mice. So I did that to Hilary's song and she did sound like a mouse but then I hit play and it didn't sound much different! It proves she can't sing! She is puting crappy songs on a CD and her "so called hits". What hits? I'd rather listin to that old crappy disoc music instead of this crap. I just feel bad for anyone who bought this album. I just went on aol and listined to the songs and I knew I didn't wantto buy it. AND THANK GOD! Anyone who does buy tihs is probly some annoying prep wantabe punk rocker. If you hate this cd and want good music buy Skye Sweetnam - Noise From The Basement!! It's the best. And have you noticed everything released from Hollywood Records is pop crappy fluff?? Like Jesse Mccartney, Lindsay Lohan, stuff like that. Thay all can't sing. Now I must go but I'll remind you this album suxs! Signed, Sharada hehe
